I'm an amateur astronomer and Astrophotographer, this app is quicker and easier to use than any other app for moon positions. ### 5/5 — Wonderful program!!!!! *2014-03-06, version 2.01* With this program, I can easily and quickly determine when the Jovian moons and their shadows will pass in front of Jupiter. This is a great help for me. Also, when looking at Saturn, I can identify it's moons as well. I have never been able to do that. I used to look this info up but this app makes it all faster and does it so well that it has earned it's place on my in my Astronomy collection. My only minor nit is that if you want to get the positions for more than a day in the future it's a pain - you have to change the app settings. Why not just put this functionality in the rolling time control with a go to now button? ### 5/5 — Excellent first version *2011-11-11, version 1.01* It does what it says on the tin ;-) Perfect for identifying which moons are visible at outreach events, predicting a future view, or simulating the view through a telescope. I'd like to see a future version do predictions of transits, shadow transits, eclipses, and transit times of the Great Red Spot. ### 5/5 — Extremely useful at the telescope *2011-06-01, version 1.01* This app comes from a dedicated developer and is extremely useful at the telescope. It's also great for showing bystanders how planetary satellites behave. I really like the huge equipment data base. It gives me a chance to virtually test the optics of my telescopes before I set them up. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App still not updated to support newer devices *2022-09-30, version 2.03* I can’t even figure out how to use this app because half the menu bar at the top is covered by the notch on newer iPhones. The iPhone notch has been around for 5 years. Either update your app or remove it from the App Store. ### 1/5 — iOS 14: Jovian Moons Don’t Fit *2021-09-15, version 2.03* This is a simple and well executed app but the Jupiter view doesn’t display the full width of the orbits for Ganymede and Callisto. I can only view in portrait mode and can’t pinch enough to view the wider orbits. Also, the iPhone 11’s tab at the top covers the menu to choose Saturn or Uranus. Will upgrade to 5 stars if the full view of Jupiter’s satellites can be seen, if the app can go into landscape mode and if the menu choices for Saturn and Uranus aren’t covered by the tab at the top of the iPhone 11 screen. ### 1/5 — Impossible to read the names of the moons!!! *2017-11-04, version 2.02* Seriously? And you can't zoom and then slide the image to the side. Why not? It was better in the earlier versions. ### 2/5 — Uranus and Neptune Not Working *2022-09-19, version 2.03* It seems that the models for Uranus and Neptune have now ceased to work. I’ve tried this version or both iPhone and iPad but get the same result - no movement for the outer gas giants’ moons. ### 3/5 — Small criticisms *2022-01-15, version 2.03* 1. The app name displays as "Gas Giants-debug". Not sure what this means or if it is functionally significant. Redownloading doesn't fix. 2. Time slider has no effect for Uranus and Neptune. ### 3/5 — So close to greatness! *2020-05-01* Overall this app is brilliant and easy to use. My only gripe with it is the sizing does not appear to be scaled for the current iPhone’s as the notch gets in the way of the planet selection. If fixed this would be an easy 5 star! ### 3/5 — Getting old *2017-07-15, version 2.01* I like the app but keep getting a warning that it is out of date and will slow down the phone. ### 3/5 — Useful but flawed *2011-02-25, version 1.0* This is a useful app for amateur astronomers planning their observations -- "hey, which of Jupiter's or Saturn's moons are going to be visible tonight" -- but it has a couple of issues I hope to see resolved in a future update. First, pinching is extremely slow. Second, on my iPad, the app crashes when you try to select a custom telescope or eyepiece. On the Software Bisque support forums I discovered a fix that worked for me: powering off and restarting the iPad. Apparently the telescope and eyepiece menus (which are huge, and include everything) are just too big. Support is a problem in that registration at the developer's site is required to do anything, including contacting the developer or even reading posts on the support forum, which strikes me as going to great lengths to avoid getting feedback from users. ### 4/5 — Update the app *2020-03-01, version 2.03* Please update. I can’t zoom in as much and I also can’t go side to side and zoom in on the moons as well. Please fix that. still Pretty good though! ### 4/5 — Good, but please update for the notch! *2019-06-09, version 2.03* App is simple and does what it's supposed to, so that's always appreciated! However, the iPhone X and similar models have been out for nearly two years, and the Saturn and Uranus tabs are covered by the screen notch. Especially Jupiter and Saturn as they are the closest and most visible. Excellent presentation, clean, simple and very useful.
