I’ll help you out: if woman’s profile has supermodel-like pictures, says she attended Moscow university, and “fully embodies the work hard play hard mentality,” it’s a fake profile. It can’t be that hard to set up a screening process to prevent those from getting past the first step. Every single day I have a new like from another profile with those same qualities. The name and pictures are different (though still women with full lips and flawless skin), but the responses are the same. I can tell from the very first picture that they are going to be from Moscow University, or occasionally California, and “fully embody the work hard play hard mentality.” Please do something about this. It’s ridiculous. ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2024-03-01* The app is disappointing overall. The location settings are evidently far from precise… all of my matches by default are no where close to being within my desired distance. Additionally they all seem to be coming from NJ specifically for whatever reason. At the same time, the app will not let me even try to change my location… the option to edit seems to only be for show because it replaces whatever I type with my original location. Worst of all, the developer offers no way to get real customer support. They offer a “support” page that has only general help information and offers no support for the many technical problems I’ve experienced so far. I’d like to leave a better review once I see that these problems are resolved, and I hate coming across as being so negative… If the developer reaches out I will be more than happy to cooperate with them. To their credit, the app has shown me plenty of great people and is an overall good idea… I just need a little more than what I’ve already been given. ### 3/5 — This app in its current state is a good foundation *2023-08-20* As someone who has used this app for a few months, here is what I have experienced thus far. This app does what it was designed to do fairly well. It is a simple and straightforward dating site for Catholics to use. It has a few problems that hold it back as a platform. The app has no real vetting to stop people from making bot or scam accounts. I have matched and dealt with bot accounts on this site a couple times. Then there is the problem of blank profiles with just attractive photos that are on there for phishing schemes. A method of verification or capcha could cut down these issues and would fix the only major flaw with this app. As a whole I would recommend this app, but be ready to report a few fake accounts ### 4/5 — Their are genuine men on this app but be careful… *2023-07-18* This app is actually really nice. I like the simple profiles and user face, clean and easy to use. Not many questions just basic info and it’s free, which means the app creators really do want you to meet someone genuine and are not as concerned with making a quick profit. Unfortunately there is a scammer problem lots of catfish profiles, but the developers are working on trying to filter those out. Did I mention one of the gentlemen working there tried hard to find a gentleman I had matched with and deleted to try and find him again. In the end it didn’t work out but the fact that the customer service rep tried so hard to help me was absolutely wonderful! I have faith that the developers and ceo will make this app even more wonderful so that we can all meet our match and , “Gather”. Thankyou Guys! P.S be careful with the scammer profiles they are very easy to spot! Bad English and responses that don’t make sense, if they ask you to move to a third party texting app like google chat, signal etc. just avoid. But I have met some real guys too. Just as another reviewer mentioned. I nearly got scammed by two guys, but don’t be naive and give them your info. I wish there was a way to filter them out. Otherwise this app is actually really nice. I like the simple profiles and user face, clean and easy to use. But I do have issue with it crashing every time I try to open a message and its been like that for a few days. Another issue I have are the bot accounts. Please fix the crashing issue and please implement a verification system to weed out those bot accounts. **Developer response:** Hey, thanks for letting us know. We're publishing improvements each week, so keep an eye out — your experience will get better every week :) ### 2/5 — Chat function crashes entirely *2023-02-02, version 3.14.3* Hello - I downloaded this app recently and it seemed to work ok, but on day 2 the chat function stated crashing. I was talking to one person and now each time I try to respond the entire app shuts down, which makes it useless if I can’t connect with people. There seem to be other small bugs/kinks in function as well. **Developer response:** Hey, I'm really sorry. Thanks for helping to make the app better :) ### 3/5 — 50% scams, 50% cool *2022-12-09, version 3.13.3* A solid 50% of the profiles I have interacted with on this app have been scammers/catfishers. This is probably because the app has no security measures to verify that you are who you say you are when creating an account. So, ladies be wary! However, the other 50% have been real gentlemen, and I have made a few friends. I like that it is a specifically Catholic app and I like that it is free. It is simple and not overwhelming, and that’s nice. Notifications are inconsistent, user base is minimal, and (at least on the free version) there is not the ability to create separate profiles for friends vs dating, but those are all little issues that I imagine will be worked out in time. The only big issue is the lack of security during setup that allows for so many fake accounts. **Developer response:** Hey, thank you so much for submitting this. And we'll be growing a lot more in the coming months, so the user base should increase (fingers crossed) haha Thanks so much for helping to make the app better :) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — BEWARE: Phishing App! *2024-05-15* No App Support & Can’t Signup: I downloaded the app and followed the instructions to sign up, when it came to location, I hit the button to enable location services, I turned off precise location and selected “only while using the app” which seems appropriate. It froze there and the progress wheel just spun indefinitely. I tried everything to fix the issue, even deleting the app off my phone several times and reinstalling it. Nothing worked! So I came to the App Store to contact support for the app and once I clicked on their website, I quickly realized it’s no longer an active website and there is no way to get in contact with the developer. BEWARE… it may simply be a fake app used to gather personal information from people under the guise of legitimate reasons. I can’t see why you would have an app that doesn’t work, allow your website domain to be lost and the only thing that works is the gathering of personal information! ### 1/5 — So. Many. Fake. Accounts. *2024-03-07* My headline says it all. Also, the help menu isn’t helpful, let alone the contact page. Whenever you click to see a solution, or to contact, it simply closes the page. Also, the age parameters thing is useless. I’m 41, and have my settings at 28-44, yet it show A LOT of 18-21 year olds on one end, and then 50+ year olds on the other, rarer with anyone within my actual settings. The spammy, fake accounts; unhelpful help and context page; and, useless age settings (location, too, for that matter), render this app a waste. ### 1/5 — Has potential, but is littered with scammers *2024-02-29* Long story short: Pretty much what it says on the tin. The app is very similar to Hinge, both aesthetically and conceptually which is pleasing, but as others have mentioned, at least 50% of the “users” are scammers. I’ve been getting duplicate accounts of multiple people liking my photos and messaging me. I like the format, but until the scammers become less of an issue, I can’t recommend this app to anyone. It is nearly unusable as it stands. ### 1/5 — Usurious *2023-09-20* I have allegedly about 40 likes received and have yet to see a single one come up through my “swiping.” They tell you if you want to skip straight to the people who like you, just upgrade, but Gather wants $30 a month to see who those likes are. There’s absolutely zero reason why when I swipe to my daily limit 2 weeks in a row, I shouldn’t be able to at least be shown one profile who’s already liked me. They are weaponizing the good will of Catholics trying to find a match against themselves to extort a profit. It’s usurious and sinful. Gather should be ashamed of themselves. ### 1/5 — I think they deleted my profile! *2023-09-06* It appears all my info was deleted on the app and when I tried to get back on through the verification it wouldnt send me a new passcode number to verify. There is also no way to reach out for direct assistance. This was right in the middle of conversing with someone!!! I was almost starting to really like this app compared to the other dating ones because it only had catholic singles and was free. I got tired of connecting with other denominations only to find out they didnt agree with certtain aspects of my faith like using a rosary. im wondering if they deleted my account because i was suspicious about a certain user being a scammer in my messages and spoke about being skeptical since i had experience with bumping into a few scammers on dating apps but my goodness they need to becareful because if their intent was to delete my profile by weeding out bad or fake ones then they deleted a real one!!!!!! they need to have a process for verifying real accounts instead shutting them down like asking the user to take a live photo like other apps do if they are so suspicious. its so rude. what a damaging experience for someone who could be talking to a soulmate and have them ripped from their connection; disrupting people in the middle of chatting. how embarrassingly intrusive that is. ### 1/5 — Not Viable *2023-08-07* Limited availability within search criteria and even when parameters for age & distance are enabled the profiles you’re shown aren’t within those ranges. Most of the profiles seemed fake, with limited information, or answers that weren’t even grammatically correct (as in, like, poorly attempted translations or auto-generated gibberish - not just human based errors or typos). MULTIPLE instances of duplicate accounts, featuring reused photos but with different names or details. There *might* be real people on here, but honestly it’s probably not worth investing your time or expecting anything legitimate or genuine when probably 85% of it is spam/phishing/fake. ### 1/5 — Not as expected *2023-06-10* I’ve had a terrible experience on this app. There was no one local to my area and I’ve met and conversed with several men and at least 3 of them tried to get me into crypto trading and asked for money or gift cards. Im beginning to think the whole app is a platform for scammers. Wholly disappointed and will not be back. I tried to delete my account by following the delete steps and im still getting emails. God bless you in your search! ### 1/5 — Unsafe app *2023-03-13* This is a terrible app. There are too many scammers and catfishers in here. I also tried to delete my account and received a notification that my account was deleted but still keep receiving notifications of people liking my profile. I was also able to login and saw that my information was still there— account was not deleted. There is no customer service support. The help feature brings you to a Google form for you to submit only and even asks the question, “What can we do to resolve your issue?” I mean, the point of us asking for help is that we don’t know what to do. There is also no customer support email or phone available. The app website does not show transparency of who is behind the app. This app has never been supported by any legitimate Catholic ministries for friendship, daring, or relationships. **Developer response:** Hey, I'm really sorry we gave you such a poor experience. We fixed the deletion bug you mentioned Please email us at hello@comegather.app for the best, fastest customer support. ### 1/5 — The Enable Location *2023-02-26, version 3.14.4* Honestly, I can’t even give this app a proper review because even though I’m sure it must work for some people, I have tried to download this app multiple times now and every single time I cannot for the life of me get past the enable your location spot. No matter what I try in my settings nothing seems to fix it. It just freezes there and won’t let me continue. I can keep tapping the enable button and it reacts like it’s trying, but nothing ever comes of it. I think you’ve done a very good job. I do see a lot of resemblance in the onboarding to Tinder, et al 😉 Some observations: 1. BUG: when I switched from “friend” to “dating” it got stuck on “thanks for growing the flock” 2. (Potential) BUG: on one of the profiles, I couldn’t see the pictures 3. FEATURE REQUEST: please, please do co-ed “friends”. All my experience with same sex “friends” on apps like Bumble, etc, has been mostly seeing guys who are gay and looking. Not saying it’s the same on here, but I’m really only interested in being friends first with females 4. FEATURE REQUEST: be able to “like” everything on profile—pictures, prompts, age/location/etc 5. FEATURE REQUEST: once you “like/heart” something, be able to leave a little message/feedback about it 6. FEATURE REQUEST: maybe during onboarding, ask for preferences and stances on things like smoking, drinking, politics, ethnicity, height, etc etc etc 7. COMPLIMENT: I like the purple color scheme.
