### 4/5 — i love it, but max loop lenth is too short

*2024-12-09*

great creative FX-looper, i enjoy playing with it. the only downside is the maximum loop lenth of 45 seconds , i would prefer 90 seconds in HiFi-mode for long evolving ambient tracks. also i would love to have the possibility to sync with host and to start/stop with host. especially when you use more than one gauss.

### 4/5 — It’s great but missing one vital feature

*2024-02-05*

Super creative looper, easy to use and works like a charm. Just one thing stops it from being perfect, well two. First up why can’t you sync the playback to your daw or host playback? If I have 2 or 3 loops I really want them to start and stop at the same time but Gauss doesn’t seem to allow that. It’s the one thing that stops me from using it. It would also be a bonus if you could trim your loop but that’s not a biggie, just would be a nice feature.

### 4/5 — One missing feature would make this a 5/5

*2023-09-20*

Gauss is an incredible plug-in. You should definitely buy it.

But…

Why isn’t monitoring on by default?? Multiple online reviews have mentioned how annoying it is to have to switch it on every time you want to use the plugin. On should be the default behaviour.

Other than that, this is just awesome.

### 4/5 — Lacking AU3 save and export

*2023-04-24, version 2.0*

Gauss is an endlessly fascinating app. Wonderful for ambient composition, and sound track effects, but also capable of adding uniquely twisted sound to more melodic works. With a little awkward effort. Sadly, when placed in an FX slot under AUM for recording, there is no audio threshold setting and no way to save or export anything recorded. Other apps that occupy the AUM FX slot, such as the vastly more complex Loopy Pro, can record and export with ease. So why not Gauss?

### 4/5 — Great Looper

*2022-08-31*

Awesome Looper but I saw that it should also be possible to layer loops which isn’t the case on iPhone.
If there is a possibility to do it on iPhone as well it would be even better!

### 4/5 — Great functionnality but UI can ne imprimes

*2022-08-12*

Nice app however hardly usable on iPhone small screen.

Even if we authorise iCloud saving, the recordings are not accessible on other devices (sharing between iPhone, iPad, Mac…)

We have no idea and no control on recording settings (sample rate, bits….)

Finally an optional auv3 slot on output to add a reverb or other effect on standalone mode would be great.

Otherwise this is a great app very useful and nicely designed to be used on an iPad

### 3/5 — Cool app - UI uselessly small on iPhone

*2022-05-17*

Really like what this app does. Pretty intuitive and satisfying. But the UI is so irritatingly small that it seems rolling this out on tablets-only would have made more sense. It’s 4 years old so I can only imagine it hasn’t had enough adoption to put time into another UI update. Bummer. Could see this as a bonus auxiliary tool in live sets but not as it is now.

**Developer response:** Hi! Thanks for the review! The size of the UI is dictated by the minimum size Apple recommends for Audio Unit AUv3 plugins (so they can be run inside host apps like Garageband and Cubasis or AUM with room left for the host to provide a sequencer or a mixer etc).

### 3/5 — Great buy why can’t you load loops in standalone?

*2022-05-15*

This app is killer as an audio unit in AUM but why is there no simple way to load loops from AudioShare or another method in standalone? If this is some “purist” decision to only serve as a field recorder it’s a bit ridiculous….

### 5/5 — Flutter Some More Warble, Bitte.

*2022-04-15*

You can finally retire your multi tape speed, overdubbable(? Not multitrack, which is fine) dictaphone. Not that you were ever able to synch sequence a magnetic tape or fine tune how much it warbles or the intensity and speed of fluttering (filter cutoff and modulation) and I have never heard an analog tape machine come to an adjustable speed stop so that it may reverse the direction it was traveling without having the capstan blow and pop off into the air like a Russian tank.

Like most of these apps, you don’t need much to get started and messing with the provided preset loops will teach you more hands on than any documentation.

I’m sure there is a way to improve this little beast, but at the moment I have been using it mostly standalone for a few months and I can’t think of anything that would add to it. Maybe something that would over-complicate it, but nothing to improve it.

### 5/5 — 🖤

*2022-04-07, version 1.1.3*

it would be nice there was a way to load samples from audioshare.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2021-12-19*

Really creative and inspiring little looper, though the inability to load samples in to it is puzzling. When you click on “load a loop” you see demo loops you can play with, while the “user loops” section is blank. However I don’t see anywhere in the app where you can import sound files.

I also tried navigating to the Gauss folder in my iPhone (using the files app) and adding MP3s to the “loop” folder, but that doesn’t make them appear in the app either. Hopefully this is something they add in the future.

### 5/5 — Beautiful loops with a tapey analog feel

*2021-11-19*

Very interesting looper with tape style glitching. Record a sound, now reverse it and record another over the top, speed up the tape and overdub again, reverse again and then slow down, and WOW, instant crazy atmospheric drones aplenty. Even has built in delay and filter effects. Works as a DAW plugin and as stand-alone. Terrific app, and would be worth it at multiples of the current price.

### 4/5 — Lovel App, but

*2021-11-09*

I experienced harsh noise issues. Very loud, definitely ear damaging sounds may occur when using this app. Would it be possible to implement somewhat of a failsafe?

### 4/5 — Works Great! Just one problem…

*2021-10-24*

This is an absolutely fantastic tape loop emulator. However whenever I plug my phone to an external output, the loops will either no longer play or the control interface just goes blank.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not really a field recorder

*2023-08-31*

This app is a briefly engaging toy in the studio, but utterly useless in its stated role as a “field recorder” as it does not record in standalone mode. Whether there is a trick to making it do so I do not know, as the manual is completely silent on the actual recording process, and all the YouTube demos show it being used in the studio in one DAW or another.

The wait for an iOS field recorder goes on…

### 1/5 — ATTENTION!!! !!!! DECEIVING !!!!!!!!!!!!

*2022-03-26, version 1.1.3*

Don't buy apps from this developer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They remove apps from appstore some time after purchase!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

### 1/5 — Error

*2021-07-03*

Stops working when I plug in my micro. I can’t use it.

**Developer response:** Please contact me to find a solution, because Gauss absolutely works with external microphones. An email works better than a 1-star review. Thanks.

### 1/5 — Headphones Not Working

*2020-11-15, version 1.0*

I cant use my bluetooth headphones with the app even though connected. May be a bug, or am I doing something wrong? Also USB audio does not work. Disappointing, I was hoping this would be more of a finished app

### 1/5 — No audio

*2020-11-14, version 1.0*

The demo seemed really nice but it is not giving me audio on my iPhone 11pro running iOS 14.2 nor am I able to even see it in AUM. I know this will probably be fixed but it’s a bummer after spending $7

### 1/5 — Not working on iOS 14.1

*2020-11-13, version 1.0*

Looks like a brilliant app on demo but doesn’t work. I’ll revise my rating when it does. I’m sure it’s a glitch.

### 2/5 — iPad too?

*2022-12-11*

i paid and installed it on my iphone and then went to install on my iPad and Apple is asking me to purchase again!

**Developer response:** Hi, you can safely install it on your iPad. It’s an annoying App Store bug that it tells you to pay again, but when you proceed it will explain that you already own it (Apple, please fix that!). Please update your 2-star rating.

### 2/5 — Well-designed but not for me

*2020-12-06, version 1.0.1*

Very excited to try this one out but find it to be a let down. Perhaps it is suited towards a very narrow range of music style or maybe I haven’t learned how to use it well enough.

### 3/5 — Importing could be way better.

*2022-11-10, version 1.1.3*

Does it’s job but I can’t upload original sound files.

### 3/5 — iCloudDrive Problem

*2022-06-21*

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Still Looping and Loopy!

*2026-07-21*

A real work of love, classic and superb design by Bram Boss, nothing compares with Gauss, simple, delightful, mysterious. A magical sound sampler for nature or instruments and endless hours of turning minimalistic sounds into cosmic soundscapes. A must have.

### 5/5 — My go to for ambient fun

*2026-06-03*

I often use this paired with a mic and various sound bath instruments. Or with synth and sampler apps.
To me this isn’t a looper in the traditional sense it’s way more free. If I want a looper proper I’ll use loopy pro.
I love the modes. Recording vocal samples in on the trig mode so that you get rhythmic stuff going can be very inspirational. Pair it with other effects after on loop mode and have it octave or fifth jump paired with a granular app. Slow it down and record in reverse.
I would like new features though :
Option to start recording on transport
Clickless loops.
Waveform showing graphically on the board.
Is “Snap speed” the ability to allow modulation to jump to 100/50/25 etc speeds and to be able to flip it in reverse precisely to a speed? If that’s there I haven’t worked it out.

Thanks !

### 5/5 — Fantastic sound experience

*2025-08-23*

Just love the sound that come of it and how close is it to actually play with a real tape machine.
Need to be add as an effect as Auv3 plugin.

### 5/5 — Bram is…read below

*2024-08-01*

The uncrowned King of this Kingdom! All hail the King! On your knees Daug!

There’s only a couple of devs I respect even more than my own life,

Bram is one. Respect.

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2024-05-26*

There is nothing in the AuV3 or VST worlds that even comes close to emulating analog tape loops in digital realm. Boldly, I believe it is the best digital tape loop instrument available.

### 5/5 — Great for iphone

*2023-06-06, version 2.0*

awesome little lofi effects sampler that mimics tape. pretty neat

### 5/5 — Spontaneous creativity

*2023-04-24*

I love Gauss. Easy to use and unexpected sound creations.
On thing I don’t understand is, you added two options to sync with the host. The trigger sync option and the delay but not the start / stop function. Or maybe I did not get something… 🤔

### 5/5 — Very useful sample manipulator

*2023-04-23*

I'm still using this a lot, thanks for keeping it up to date and compatible with iOS

### 5/5 — Huge update

*2023-04-21, version 2.0*

Sample import makes this already great app 10x as great.

### 5/5 — Creative options!

*2022-09-12, version 1.1.3*

So much you can do with this!
