I had given it 1 star, but have now given it 3 stars. It would be great to be able to have this totally on the iPhone/iPod/iPad…like Offline Wiki (which I have), but they have stated that that would be too difficult. Hopefully, someday. From the previous review: This should have been stated in the iTunes explanation. I have an iPod Touch and iPad 2 and do not have a WiFi network where I live. This would have been a great app…if it could have been downloaded onto the device. It is extremely slow and it needs better navigation between years. Tapping the year should at least bring up the number keyboard instead of letters, and there should be "next year" and "previous year" buttons. I also find that it defines countries oddly; Bosnia is still not show as independent from Serbia while the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (recognized only by Turkey) appears as a sovereign entity. It also shows Gaza as a country, which it is not by most definitions. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Great idea, buggy as hell. *2022-05-31* Too much lag to be useful. Also how about links to Wikipedia pages detailing the significant events? This, and a slightly more user friendly interface could make this app really amazing! Maybe great for a desktop, but fails to respond to mobile needs. No in depth work has been done. The HRE has just been turned into one nation without the individual princes shown and the information provided in the app is just a link to often the wrong Wikipedia page. But there is 1 issue,these empires which are listed here:Spain,France,Portugal you don’t have borders for the colonies. GREAT! Please mark Taiwan with different color than China to reflect the fact they they are currently governed different governments. Turns out exactly the thing existed! I’m happy to throw you guys a few bucks and a 5 Star rating based solely on how much I use your website. ### 5/5 — Superb app *2018-03-08* I’ve long been a fan of historical atlases and have been waiting for an app on the iPad which gave a year-by-year account and this is it! It’s clear and easy to follow and covers the world in a sensible way right back to 3,000BC! The way one can step forward or back in steps of 1, 10, 100 years etc. Is very neat tho it took me a few minutes to spot. Americans may be surprised the USA doesn’t appear till 1784 but it seems reasonable. It also has a sensible treatment for “uncharted” territories. The Wikipedia links are very extensive and appropriate and support the decision for it to be an online app, which also keeps the footprint small. ### 5/5 — Amazing! *2017-12-05, version 2.1* This app is amazing and it’s super cool and detailed!! A few notable political choices such as history of Tibet and "Occupied Territories." ### 5/5 — Excellent app for historical understanding *2013-11-15* My partner stumbled across the main website after searching for exactly this type of historical-slider-geopolitical map, and I was very glad to see they had an app too and we both purchased straight away. Its strength is in its simplicity, as you glean a lot of perspective from the year by year shifts of tribe movements, cultures and national sovereignty. It's also surprisingly in depth for the amount of megabytes used too, you can zoom in to produce an even more detailed map.
