## What is Gear?

Gear-Life is not a tracker. It's an advisor: AI gear intelligence for athletes.

Most fitness apps count your miles against your shoe. Gear-Life tells you what to do with them: which shoe to wear today, when your foam is breaking down, and whether your body needs to push or rest.

GEAR INTELLIGENCE Every shoe has a stress limit. Gear-Life tracks Cumulative Stress Score (CSS), a physics-based formula measuring real foam degradation from your pace, power, weight, and surface, not just mileage. Know how much life is left before your body tells you first.

CYCLING GEAR INTELLIGENCE Bikes and cycling shoes get their own Mechanical Wear Score (MWS): chain, tires, brake pads, cassette, and cleats, tracked individually. Road, gravel, MTB, and indoor all wear differently. Gear-Life knows the difference.

BEYOND SHOES AND BIKES Running vests, hiking poles, helmets, compression gear, and prescription orthotics now get their own wear tracking, each with a scoring model built for how that gear actually breaks down.

WEATHER-AWARE CLOSET A gear impact indicator shows how today's conditions affect your equipment at a glance: heat, cold, or rain all change what you should reach for.

RECOVERY INTELLIGENCE Gear-Life reads your sleep score, HRV, and resting heart rate from Apple Health every night and tells you how recovered you are, what workout makes sense today, and which shoe fits that effort. Works with Apple Watch, Garmin, Ultrahuman, or anything that syncs to Apple Health.

YOUR ROTATION, MANAGED Running one shoe into the ground is the fastest way to get injured. Gear-Life scores each shoe's recovery status and tells you when to rotate, so every pair gets rest and you stay consistent.

GEAR DIARY Log notes, photos, and milestones for any shoe, bike, or piece of gear. Search your history by keyword or date, filter by week or month. When a shoe retires, commemorate it with an AI-generated retirement portrait, powered by Apple's Image Playground, saved to its diary.

BUILT FOR RUNNERS, WALKERS, CYCLISTS, AND FIT ENTHUSIASTS Whether you're logging easy miles in a max-cushion trainer, chasing PRs in a carbon racer, or putting kilometers on a gravel bike, Gear-Life adapts to your activity and gear.

WHAT GEAR-LIFE TRACKS
- Foam health per shoe using Cumulative Stress Score
- Bike components: chain, tires, brakes, cassette, bar tape
- Cycling shoe wear: cleats, closure, structural health
- Vests, hiking poles, helmets, compression gear, orthotics
- Sleep score, HRV, and resting heart rate
- Training load using ACWR, the method elite coaches use
- Rotation health across your full gear closet
- Recovery status: foam needs 24 to 48 hours to decompress
- Surface type: road, trail, gravel, treadmill, track, indoor
- Daily weather impact on your gear

WORKS WITH YOUR DEVICES Gear-Life pulls data from anything connected to Apple Health: Apple Watch, Garmin, Ultrahuman, Whoop, and more. No manual entry required unless you're logging a workout yourself.

LOCK SCREEN WIDGET See your recommended shoe and foam health without opening the app. Confirm your shoe right from your lock screen after a workout.

PRIVACY FIRST No account required. No data sold. Health data never leaves your device, read directly from Apple Health. Ultrahuman activity data syncs directly to your device - only the initial sign-in is handled through a secure proxy, which never sees or stores your fitness data. Gear data backs up securely via iCloud.

Gear-Life is free to download with core features available forever.

## Frequently asked questions about Gear

### What is Gear-Life's main function?

Gear-Life acts as an AI advisor for athletes, focusing on the wear and tear of your gear, particularly running shoes and cycling components. It helps you understand when your gear is degrading and when your body is ready for different types of workouts.

### How does Gear-Life track shoe wear?

Gear-Life uses Cumulative Mechanical Stress (CSS), a physics-based formula, to measure foam degradation in running shoes. This calculation considers your pace, power, weight, and the surface you run on, going beyond simple mileage tracking.

### Can Gear-Life track cycling gear?

Yes, Gear-Life tracks bikes and cycling shoes using a Mechanical Wear Score (MWS). It monitors the wear on components like the chain, tires, brake pads, cassette, and cleats, taking into account different surface types like road, gravel, and MTB.

### How does Gear-Life use my health data?

Gear-Life integrates with Apple Health to read your sleep score, HRV, and resting heart rate. This data helps determine your recovery status and suggests appropriate workout types and gear for the day.

### Does Gear-Life have an AI advisor?

Yes, Gear-Life features Sage, an AI Gear Advisor. On supported iPhones, Sage runs entirely on-device for free. Sage Pro offers deeper coaching powered by Gemini AI for a one-time purchase of $5.99.

### What devices does Gear-Life work with?

Gear-Life is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It pulls data from any source connected to Apple Health, including Apple Watch, Garmin, Strava, Ultrahuman, and Whoop.

### How often is Gear-Life updated?

The latest version of Gear-Life is 1.2, and it was last updated on July 9, 2026. This indicates a recent update, suggesting ongoing development and support for the application.

### What is the age rating for Gear-Life?

### 1.1 — 2026-07-08

Gear-Life v1.1 What's New

Cycling gear is here.
Track your bikes and cycling shoes with Mechanical Wear Score (MWS) — a physics-based model that monitors chain health, tire wear, brake pads, cassette, cleat life, closure system, and structural integrity. Surface matters: road, gravel, MTB, and indoor all wear differently. Gear-Life knows the difference.

Gear Diary.
Every shoe now has a photo and notes timeline. Document new shoes, log milestones, and capture how your gear looks at 100 miles, 300 miles, and retirement. The diary auto-prompts you at key milestones and generates a shareable recap card.

Lace Intelligence.
Track your laces as gear. Add laces to any shoe, monitor abrasion wear by material type, and get an alert when it's time to replace them. Laces live in your gear library and can be moved between shoes.

Sage Pro — AI coaching powered by Gemini.
Upgrade to Pro for $5.99 one-time and get Sage powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash, multi-turn conversation, and 50 free credits included. Pro also unlocks deeper coaching, cardiovascular intelligence, and all future Pro features. Credit packs available if you need more.

On iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence enabled, Sage runs entirely on-device. No data leaves your phone. The adapter is now delivered over-the-air and updates automatically.

Rotation Roulette widget.
A new home screen widget that picks a shoe for you. Filter by category, tap to spin, and stop second-guessing what to wear.

Gear Trends overhauled.
Replaced with proactive AI nudges that surface rotation imbalances, foam burn rate changes, cycling shoe wear alerts, and positive reinforcement when your training habits are dialed in.

Closet reorganized.
The segment control now spans Run/Walk, CrossFit, Lifting, Cycling, and more. Cycling lives in its own section with bikes and cycling shoes separated clearly.
