I do have notifications set up for the really rare stuff so I can grab it as soon as it’s listed, and e-mail alerts for most other things. I really look forward to my coffee and email summary every morning, it’s like having my own personal shopper! I feel crazy for not writing a review earlier but better late than never. Plus when you use any of the actual apps (eBay Poshmark etc.) it feels like it’s all sponsored listings at the top; using Gem, you get just what’s relevant and new. Not who’s paid the most. Would like to be able to filter out sold items and exclude certain sites. But those are small things. It saves me so much time and every when searching for specific items for projects so than you! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App keeps crashing and making me re-log in *2026-04-08, version 7.3.0* For the past few weeks this app keeps making me log in every time I click on a notification. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even use it. I’ll log in again when it prompts me and click on my different saved searches. Once I click on another saved search chances are there will be an error and I have to log in again. Please fix this issue. I’m about to turn notifications off and not use the app until it can be fixed. ### 1/5 — Pushes specific sites and are not honest about it *2024-09-20, version 5.3.0* I won’t use any company names in my review, but my results are always heavily from one site, even when I type in word-for-word the names of listings on sites that Gem claims to use in their database. However, most things I search will pop up as “no results,” but when I search for them on each site individually, I find listings. Basically, I still have to search for everything manually, which completely defeats the purpose. I really really hope this gets fixed because I have been hoping for an app like this for years! ### 2/5 — Was perfect but sudden change *2026-03-27, version 7.3.0* I have been a user of this app for many months, I use it to get notified on prices I can’t resist. But recently GEM has been logging me out of my own account, causing me to re-login numerous times with no long term success. Because of this bug It has caused me to miss out on all the things I first loved about the app. I hope this review brings attention to a fault in the application and by doing so, getting it fixed. ### 2/5 — Has similar search issues to other vintage apps *2020-09-18, version 1.1.1* Great that it pulls in pieces from eBay and Etsy etc., but it has the same issues at Etsy’s search - it pulls up ‘[era] style’ or ‘[era you didn’t search for] does [era you searched for]’, or pulls up everything vaguely related to the term you searched for, e.g. searching for “1930s dress” pulls up all dresses of all eras, or searching for “orange mini dress” returns every orange dress or every mini dress. I’d hoped this would be an actual buy/sell app that would improve the situation for sellers compared to Etsy and eBay, and would as a search tool be much more functional for buyers, but disappointingly it’s just another inaccurate shopping search engine. ### 3/5 — Add a suggestion box *2026-07-25, version 7.4.0* Thrift sites pop-up all of the time and it would be great if you could add the ability to suggest new ones (ex: ThredUp). ### 3/5 — Advanced search fails *2026-04-04, version 7.3.0* The advanced searching doesn’t work properly. These are problems I keep running into after using the app for a while and it definitely affects my user experience.
