## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not accurate once

*2026-07-01*

Scanned several rocks and gems every time it said mookite. None were mookite.

**Developer response:** Sorry about the mookite mix-up — that was a bug in the earlier version where scans kept returning the same result, and it's already fixed in the latest update. Please update the app and identification should be accurate again.

### 1/5 — Does not work at all

*2026-06-20*

I keep getting an error message that says wrong API key every time I try to take a picture of any kind of stone

**Developer response:** That 'wrong API key' error was a bug in the previous version and it's already been fixed. Please update to the latest version and scanning should work normally — if you still run into it, email us at hello@apparentgroup.co and we'll sort it out right away.

### 1/5 — Not accurate at all

*2026-04-28*

I tried to use the app on multiple stones and it was wrong more times than it was right. With a yellow sapphire and moldovite it didn’t even have the correct stones listed as one of the options. Regular google image search was accurate but the app was not.

**Developer response:** Sorry about that — this was caused by a minor server error that's already been fixed. Please update to the latest version and recognition should be back to normal.

### 4/5 — does the pricing math for me now

*2026-08-01*

identifies fine and gives me a starting range, reddit is great if you have two days and don't mind wrong answers, this is at least right now. still hop on ebay after for sold comps but that's on me not the app

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! Quick, accurate valuations instead of waiting days on Reddit is exactly what we're going for.

### 4/5 — my aunt's shoebox

*2026-07-31*

aunt passed and i inherited a shoebox of loose stones nobody in the family could id. did the whole thing at my kitchen table in one night instead of waiting a week on a jeweler appointment. found a couple pieces worth listing on their own

**Developer response:** That's exactly what we built this for -- identifying your aunt's stones at home in one night instead of waiting on a jeweler. We're glad you found those valuable pieces.

### 4/5 — great

*2026-07-30*

scan it before it even leaves the mailer now. bought a "genuine labradorite" for $34, checked before it touched my hands. genuine 96%. that's basically the whole review

**Developer response:** Love that you caught it before delivery -- that's the best feeling. 96% genuine on a $34 labradorite is a great score!

### 5/5 — didn't tell him I doubted him until after

*2026-08-02*

my partner got me a rose quartz heart for our anniversary from some little roadside shop and I did not want to seem ungrateful by questioning it out loud in front of him so I just went to the bathroom and scanned it real quick. genuine, 89%. told him later, he thought it was funny that I doubted him. we'd also just had tacos from this place that gave both of us food poisoning later that night, unrelated, but that's the night I remember this happening

**Developer response:** We love that GemBrain could help verify the rose quartz discreetly. Thank you for sharing that story!

### 5/5 — if it's fake does it even work

*2026-08-01*

I hate that I'm even asking this question but if it's fake does it even work, I mean spiritually. anyway scanned my "black tourmaline," $22, turned out to be dyed obsidian. weirdly relieved to actually know instead of using it for protection stuff and wondering the whole time. already eyeing a real one to replace it

**Developer response:** Real answers instead of wondering is exactly what we're here for. Glad GemBrain could help you make that informed choice for your collection.

### 5/5 — Solid ID, would love deeper valuation data eventually

*2026-08-01*

The identification engine is better than I expected going in, and I say that as someone who wrote this whole category off after Rockd embarrassed itself years back. I ran it on a Tsumeb specimen I paid $1,850 for and the species and physical data came back accurate, which is what actually matters to me. I'd like the valuation ranges to get sharper about collector-grade versus bulk specimen pricing at some point, but that's a wish list item, not a complaint — the identifications themselves are what I'm paying for.

**Developer response:** Thank you! Accuracy on collector-grade specimens like that Tsumeb is exactly what we're aiming for. We'll definitely look into refining the valuation data for collector versus bulk pricing.

### 5/5 — cute app

*2026-07-29*

found a shiny rock hiking, said probably mica. only get 3 free a day but i just spread the rest of my bag out over the week, kinda made it fun actually

**Developer response:** Love that you turned it into a week-long rock reveal! Thanks for making GemBrain part of your hike.
