## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3.2 — 2026-09-24

What's New in 2.3.2
• New "Polariscope Lab": a polariscope simulation alongside the Optics Lab, built on physically based polarized-light ray tracing — showing birefringence, extinction and interference as plane-polarized light passes through a gemstone, in real time.
• Three independent polarizers: rotate the lower polar (polarizer) and the upper polar (analyzer) independently from 0–180°, and insert a third mid polarizer. Placing a 45° mid polar between crossed polars turns the dark field bright — the classic three-polarizer experiment, fully reproduced.
• Conoscopic interference figures: two viewing modes, ideal (analytic) and true ray-traced. Observe the uniaxial black cross with concentric isochromes, the bull's-eye figure of quartz, and the biaxial hyperbolic brushes with both optic-axis emergence points, using constants measured from the system notes.
• Rotating stage and optic-axis orientation: rotate the stage a full 360° to watch the figure evolve; tilt the optic axis off the stage normal to simulate searching for the interference figure under the microscope. For biaxial stones, orientation is described by the optic bisectrix (the acute bisectrix, Bxa).
• Free inspection: white D65 daylight for interference colors and pleochroism, or the sodium D line for clean isochromes; set crossed, parallel or any angle, with a Malus's-law transmission readout.
• Note: the simulation is for teaching and comparative observation; it does not constitute a gemological identification.

### 2.3.1 — 2026-09-20

Optical Lab — New Real Spectral Light Sources (Observe Color-Change Effect)

Integrated 31-bin (400–700 nm / 10 nm) relative spectral power distributions (RSPDs) for 4 standard illuminants:
D65 (CIE 015:2004 average daylight, 6504 K)
A (Planck 2856 K tungsten-filament incandescent lamp)
Candlelight (1900 K blackbody approximation; gemological convention candle-flame color temperature)
E (equal-energy white reference)
All 61 varieties in the Optical Lab are rendered based on their true absorption band positions.

### 2.3.0 — 2026-09-17

What's New in 2.3.0

• New "Optics Lab": a physically based path-tracing gemstone simulator that renders how light refracts, undergoes total internal reflection, disperses and is absorbed across the facets — making brilliance and fire directly visible.

• Cut library: over 250 cut designs across 27 shape groups. Search by cut or designer, and filter by shape, facet count, tiers, index gear, and length-to-width / height-to-width ratios; open any cut in the Optics Lab to compare how different cuts behave optically.

• Materials from your notes: pick a species and color grade straight from your gemstone notes. Simulate using the standard representative color, the body color from your note, its spectrum or the top color — so what you see is the gem you actually own.

• Free inspection: drag to rotate, pinch to zoom and double-tap to reset. Switch between perspective, top, bottom, front and side views; adjust the lighting environment, background, exposure, light azimuth and ray-bounce count, and mark the critical angle.

• Note: the simulation compares the optical appearance of different cuts and materials; it does not represent actual cutting yield or material grade.

### 2.2.0 — 2026-09-14

What's New in 2.2.0
• New color themes: 8 macaron palettes — Classic Gold, Mint, Matcha, Peach, Lemon, Taro, Sky and Coral. Each works independently in light and dark mode, and can be changed anytime in Settings.
• Search bar at the top of the menu: find any note by Chinese name, English name, pinyin or pinyin initials. Title matches appear instantly, while full-text matches are listed separately with a snippet preview.
• Minor reading and interface refinements.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-29

What's New in 2.1.0

• New identify tool: enter refractive index, birefringence, specific gravity, pleochroism, absorption spectra and other observations to narrow down candidates from 49 common gemstones.
• Key physical properties re-verified against standard references.
• Synthetic diamond and imitation identification added to the diamond note.
• Improved reading smoothness and stability.
