WHAT'S NEW

Your gems, one at a time
The recommendations screen has been completely redesigned. Gems now come one at a time, and you decide on each: "Not for me", "Save for later", or "Already seen". Got it wrong? An Undo button catches the slip. After a dismissal you can say what didn't work : not my genre, too long, not the right moment. Cards also show the streaming platforms and, for games, the platforms you can play on.

Every gem explains itself
No more suggestions out of nowhere. Each work tells you where it came from: "Similar to… , which you liked", what it shares with your tastes, and how closely it matches : from "Close to your tastes" to "Right up your alley!". In an Echo, the strength of the link is shown, from very strong to distant. The trailer is one tap away.

A sharper engine
Under the hood, the recommendation engine has been reworked for better Expeditions and Echoes: more variety from one session to the next within a saga, better tie-breaking between works with similar scores, room made for safe bets, and Expeditions that adapt to how mature your profile is. Echoes now keep the best-liked works instead of being capped by a similarity threshold.

Dismissed a gem by mistake?
A dismissed work is no longer recommended to you. A new page gathers them all, with the date, and a "Change my mind" button puts one back in circulation: it can appear among your gems again.

Echo: the sequel awaits
Start an Echo from a work that has a direct sequel and the sequel takes the spotlight: the next volume, your place in the saga, what comes before and after. And across all your recommendations, a saga now points you at its entry point rather than a volume picked at random.

Your profile is taking shape
If you're just starting out, Gemster says so plainly: your first gems lean on widely loved titles. On your dashboard, a gauge tracks your progress towards an expert profile, and every rating you add moves it along.

Invite your friends, wherever they are
You can now invite someone by email or through a shareable link, with a name and a short note if you like. They land on a welcome in your name, with a glimpse of your latest gems. As soon as they sign up you're friends, and you get a notification. A new Invitations tab tracks what's pending, and you can cancel a request sent by mistake. Friend search has been rebuilt: it separates people already on Gemster from those still to invite.

"Follow" becomes "Save for later"
The wording now matches what people actually do. A work you save joins your "Saved works", where you find its upcoming releases and updates from your dashboard.

FIXES

• Series: opening a work takes you to the season matching your progress
• A clearer title when you're all caught up, and a more compact progress panel
• Ordered series: your progress shows on the work page, and the catalogue now covers manga and comics too
• Books, comics and manga: the original publication date and your edition's date are told apart, and you can date a reading from the original publication instead of being held to your edition's date
• Steam: playtime and activity from older imports have been repaired
• Dashboard: the getting-started and platform cards are grouped together
• Search: edition and video titles are found more reliably
• Sharing: the attribution is centred and the author's profile is now clickable
• Recommendation cards, trailers and navigation: many adjustments on mobile

### 14.2.3 — 2026-10-21

WHAT'S NEW

Share a work with anyone
Recommending no longer stops at your Gemster friends. Every work can now be shared through a link that opens a real page, readable without an account and without installing the app, and opening straight into Gemster if you already have it. You choose what goes with it: your rating, your progress and your note, or nothing at all. Your links stay yours: from "My shared links", strip your details, permanently if you want, from every link already created for that work. They still open the work, without you; to recommend it under your name again, you create a new link.

Discussions come alive
A new "Discussions" space gathers all your conversations in one place. You can see when your friend is in the thread, when they're typing, and when they've read your message. Answer with a reaction (gem, hamster, heart, sparkles, laugh or anger) copy a message in one tap, and open a shared work's page right from the conversation.

Import any library
A new CSV import takes your data, wherever it comes from. Start from the simple six-column template, or the detailed one to carry over episodes watched, volumes read, pages, dates, time spent and lists. A step-by-step guide and downloadable examples walk you through it, and you can even have an AI convert an existing spreadsheet using the prompt we provide. A preview shows you every match before you confirm: nothing changes until you say so, and no work is ever picked at random.

Progress, down to the essentials
Series and reading controls have been redesigned. "I've seen it all" or "I've read it all" catches up every aired episode or published volume in one go, with an exact undo if you got it wrong. Pause a work you've given up on (it leaves your in-progress list and release alerts stop) then pick it back up whenever you feel like it. And if you've ticked "Discovered upon release", each episode or volume joins your history on its own release date, instead of all piling up on today.

For games: who can play, and how
Game pages now list the available modes: single player, multiplayer, co-op, split screen, MMO, battle royale, and the maximum number of offline players. On the recommendations side, a new "Same screen" filter keeps only games you can play together on one screen, just the thing for an evening with friends.

FIXES AND PRIVACY

• Clearer profile privacy: private, friends only, or visible to signed-in members, with an explanation of what each level means for your lists
• The names of your private friends and their activity are no longer visible
• Manga and comics: completion now follows the volumes you've actually read
• Session dates and completion dates are saved together
• Lists: a first-use tutorial, range selection with Shift + click, and smoother edge scrolling
• Sign-up: imports and selection made clearer, and your imported works come pre-ticked at the next step
• Light novels are temporarily kept out of recommendations, expeditions included, while we refine how they rank. Only an Echo started from a light novel can still surface them. Nothing else changes: they stay in the catalog, in search and in your library

### 14.1.2 — 2026-10-14

WHAT'S NEW

Talk about what you discover, not just the titles
A friend's recommendation now opens a real conversation. Every work you recommend, or that someone recommends to you, gets its own private thread: you reply, you react, and the discussion stays with the work. A message that gives too much away hides behind a spoiler tag your friend reveals when they're ready. The thread also shows where everyone stands: not seen yet, started, finished, rated.

A scoreboard for your recommendations
A new "Sent recommendations" tab gathers everything you've shared: how many of your gems were actually discovered, the average rating your friends gave them, and the conversations still going. Filter by no reply, in discussion or discovered to see where it's worth following up.

Safer conversations
You can report a message to the Gemster team with a reason, and block an account at any time: no more messages or recommendations between you, and the other person isn't told. Blocked accounts are managed from your preferences. Every report is reviewed by hand, and our decision reaches you by email.

Goodreads import (beta)
Export your Goodreads library as a CSV and bring over your reads, ratings and shelves, whether they're books, comics or manga. References missing from our catalog are created once their identity and metadata check out; those needing a look from our team are tracked for 30 days and join your library automatically once approved. You can close the page while the import runs.

Prime Video import
Bring over your movies, episodes and watchlist from Amazon's official export. Watch durations and playback positions let Gemster filter out trailers and views that were too partial. The ZIP is opened on your device: only the viewing history, watch events and watchlist are sent; your purchases, searches and preferences stay with you.

Export your library
Download all your works, lists and recommendations as a CSV, right down to the episodes you've watched and the volumes you've read.

Your lists, your order
Arrange the lists themselves straight from their covers, and the works inside them with "Manage works": drag your covers around one by one or in batches - a long press is all it takes on mobile. Find that order again any time with the "Custom" sort.

Revisit your recommendations
The tunnel now keeps a history of the sets it has already sniffed out: move from one set to another without starting over.

FIXES

• Multi-select in catalog search, to add several works at once
• Dates for sessions you entered by hand can now be edited afterwards
• Search recognises more alternative titles for movies, series and games
• Better-calibrated recommendations, with a seasonal nudge at the right time of year
• Imports: works you've already started no longer land in your planning lists
• Steam: bundles are recognised and matched to the right games
• Ongoing series: cards follow the episodes actually released
• Quick completion: undated volumes are taken into account
• Sign-up: scrolling restored, final actions always reachable, and quick-select offers more works
• A new reminder on the dashboard to find your friends

### 14.0.35 — 2026-10-07

WHAT'S NEW

Plex import
Bring over the movies and episodes you've watched on Plex, with their dates and ratings. Just connect your account to pull in your watch history — no server to own or switch on. You can also target a server your account has access to, shared ones included, or prepare an export file from a computer. Gemster only reads the connected account's history, changes nothing on Plex, and never stores your access token.

AniList import
Import your public anime, manga and light novel lists: your ratings, verifiable progress, and your planning entries tucked into a dedicated list. Dates and progress you've already set in Gemster are kept, and missing dates aren't invented. The summary spells out which matches and progress figures are worth a check.

Netflix: the full export
On top of the activity CSV, you can now drop in the ZIP from your Netflix data export. It carries watch durations and playback positions, so Gemster filters out trailers, previews and views that were too partial, and keeps what you actually watched. You pick your profile, and My List plus your old star ratings come across too. The ZIP is opened on your device: only the history, My List and ratings are sent to Gemster.

Steam: twice-daily sync, and on demand
Your playtime now refreshes every 12 hours instead of once a day. The page shows your last successful sync, an estimate for the next one, and a "Sync now" button for when you'd rather not wait.

Discovery dates
When the date you discovered a work is missing, you can now fill it in straight from its page.

FIXES

• Country selection : list fixed
• History: undated works are grouped at the top of an ascending sort instead of being scattered
• Series tops: cover picked by release date, no more duplicates between overlapping sagas, and activity periods better respected
• Shared time: dated companion activity is now carried over and propagated correctly
• Imports: original titles are preserved, and an ambiguous match is flagged rather than guessed
• Sign-up: import options are clearer, with a reminder that more services are available from your profile
• Smoother animations on the game progress panel and when action menus close
• Multi-select: buttons now respect rounded edges and the navigation bar
• Notifications: temporarily failed deliveries are retried
