## What is GeoCorder?

GeoCorder records where you went, keeps it as files you own, and can tell a server of your choosing where you are right now.

No GeoCorder account. No ads. No analytics. Keep tracks locally or sync your library through your iCloud Drive. Export your tracks whenever you want — your tracks are your data.

RECORD
Press record. GeoCorder stores every position fix with its GPS altitude, barometric altitude, speed, course and accuracy, in the background, with a Live Activity on the Lock Screen. Pause and resume, mark spots with a name and a note, stop. Recording survives the app being killed. An accuracy graph shows the last minute of fixes, so you always know whether the receiver has a real GPS fix or is guessing from cell towers. Filters drop the jitter while you stand still and the jumps when GPS drops out, so the distance counts like an odometer.

KEEP
A library with a drawing of every path. Maps coloured by speed or elevation, statistics, elevation profile and speed chart with a scrubber, waypoints, notes, and the weather along the track hour by hour. Import GPX files recorded elsewhere. On iPad, the library sits beside the map.

EXPORT
GPX 1.1 with timestamps, elevation, speed, course and accuracy — everything else reads it. KML and KMZ with a Google Earth time slider. GeoJSON. CSV. Plain, gzip or zip. Through the share sheet to AirDrop, Files, Mail, Messages and any app that takes a file.

FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS
Took photos with a real camera? Every point carries a precise timestamp and its own accuracy, so the exported GPX geotags your RAW files in Lightroom, HoudahGeo or exiftool exactly as it always has.

SHARE LIVE
Send your position on a schedule to a URL you write yourself — GET or POST, JSON or form, with placeholders for every value and headers for API keys — or use the presets for Traccar, OwnTracks, Nextcloud PhoneTrack and Home Assistant. A send log shows exactly what happened. Sharing works with or without a recording.

APPLE WATCH AND SIRI
Leave the phone in your pocket or on the handlebar. The Apple Watch app starts, pauses and stops the recording on your iPhone, marks a waypoint where you stand, and shows time, distance and climb at a glance; a complication puts it on your watch face. Or ask Siri: "Start recording in GeoCorder", "Pause my GeoCorder track", "Save my GeoCorder track", "Send my location with GeoCorder". The same actions are in the Shortcuts app for automations of your own.

ALSO
Metric, imperial and nautical units. Coordinates as decimal degrees, degrees and minutes, or DMS. iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

GEOCORDER PRO
Recording, the library, the map, statistics and GPX export are free. One purchase adds KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and CSV export, compression, charts and unlimited live-sharing destinations. No subscription.

GeoCorder first appeared on the App Store in 2009. Version 2 is a complete rewrite with the same idea at its heart: your tracks are your data.

### 5/5 — Geolicious

*2016-08-09*

Great app works with my tracks and HoudahGeo

### 4/5 — Excellent product - almost perfect with Google Latitude

*2012-01-27*

This app is always running in the backgroud on my iPhone to feed my Google Latitude account. It's one of the only product that is still recording GPS on a time basis (and I have tried a dozen of them in the past with many hours to search the right product). I give it 4 stars because it drains the battery a little faster than others I have used in the past (Place Tracker, Device Locator, Place Track).

If you could just put some effort in reducing battery consumption, this one in combination with a Google Latitude account would be perfect 5. Auto-restart when powering on the iPhone woudl also be a good addition, I want it to run all the time to tack my movements, my time at work, my time at home and my commute time to work...

### 5/5 — Hammer!

*2011-04-22*

### 4/5 — Yet one more thing..

*2011-02-02*

A tremendous amount of functionality with this app. Little Red Riding Hood would not get lost with it! But could I have the ability to look at tracks after I store them? Maybe it's there and I missed it

### 5/5 — Very accurate tracker

*2011-01-09*

My dad owns leaflet business and I occasionally help at weekends, I have been using the breadcrumbs section of the app to track what streets i have been down and have noticed it is very accurate in recording where I have been while doing this I can periodically upload my data to my google account with ease and retrieve this information
The app is very well thought out and has been a big help to me and I will continue to use this app.

### 5/5 — Polished App

*2010-11-30*

Worked very well to track my movements, display my path and eventually email a KML file to load in Google Earth. It would be cool to get statistics about my path, like avg. speed or total distance.

### 5/5 — Well Done!

*2010-11-18*

Best feature is the ability to ping a server with your current location at a set interval.
Aside to that, the app very well designed and polished.

### 2/5 — Bonne idée au départ mais améliorations nécessaires

*2010-02-06*

Bon objectif rendu par l'appli, notamment la création d'un relevé GPX incluant la précision.

Mais améliorations nécessaires :
+ envoi du fichier GPX en attachement par email direct (possible maintenant), sans passer par leur serveur ;

### 5/5 — Simple, effective

*2010-01-19*

This application doesn't do much, but it does what it's supposed to do well. I've used to to geocode photos (in conjunction with GPSPhotoLinker) and it works great. The interface is straightforward and the workflow is too.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0 — 2026-10-12

Version 2.0 is a complete rewrite, seventeen years after 1.0.

Everything you used GeoCorder for still works the way it did: press record, and get a
GPX file with time stamps. Around that, almost everything is new.

RECORDING
• Every fix is stored with GPS altitude, barometric altitude, speed, course and its
  horizontal and vertical accuracy.
• Activities are detected automatically: walking, running, cycling and driving are told
apart by the motion coprocessor, the track is labelled when you stop, and mixed
outings show their legs on a strip. Older tracks and imports can be tagged from the
  last seven days of history.
• Mark spots along the way with a name and note; they become GPX waypoints.
• A Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island shows distance, time and
  climb while you record.
• Recording survives the app being killed: the track is recovered on the next launch.
• The accuracy graph is back, one mark per fix, so you can see when GPS is guessing.
• The place you are at and the current weather are shown as you record, and saved with
  the track.

YOUR TRACKS
• A library with a drawing of each path, search, notes and activity types.
• Maps coloured by speed or elevation, statistics, an elevation profile and a speed
chart with a scrubber that moves a marker on the map.
• Weather along the track, hour by hour.
• Import GPX files from Files, Mail or AirDrop.

EXPORT
• GPX 1.1 with speed, course and accuracy; KML and KMZ with a Google Earth time slider;
GeoJSON; CSV. Plain, gzip or zip.
• Through the share sheet: AirDrop, Files, Mail, Messages, anything that takes a file.

LIVE SHARING
• Send your position to your own server with a URL you write yourself (GET or POST,
with placeholders), or with presets for Traccar, OwnTracks, Nextcloud PhoneTrack and
Home Assistant. A send log shows what happened.

ALSO
• iPad layout with the library beside the map.
• Metric, imperial and nautical units; decimal, degrees-minutes or DMS coordinates.
• Shortcuts: start, pause, stop, send my location.
• No GeoCorder account, no ads, no analytics. Optional iCloud Drive library sync.

GeoCorder is now free. GeoCorder Pro — the extra export formats, compression, charts and
unlimited sharing destinations — is a one-time purchase, no subscription.
