Good sounds and fun to play ### 5/5 — Not Impressed *2024-01-17* Update: apparently everything I said below was wrong. So I’m giving them 5 stars and dropping it. The design of the UI for this instrument is very poor. I want to give productive feedback, so I’ve detailed what I think could be improved below: 1. Although the design lacks skeuomorphism (which I think is a good thing), it goes to the opposite extreme: there’s no symbol or metaphor for the user to intuitively recognize. For instance, the “explodey thing” animation that happens on touch input is disruptive. I spent a long time looking at it wondering what it means other than a button press. Does the rotation do something? Do the colors mean anything? If not, why are they there? There are many other examples but this one is the most interesting one. 2. Using the “explodey thing” animation as further example, the animation framerates are low. Like so low it causes a disruption in cognition for me. It makes me wonder if my iPad Pro is having latency issues. All in all the interface is a case study in what not to do. I advise the developer to take time to study the elements of good UX. A complete redesign is very much in order. **Developer response:** BrotherDust 1) The UI is highly skeuomorphic WHERE IT SHOULD BE. Go to "Model & FX" and look at the effects boxes. The Preset Editor is built around skeuomorphism. 2) What you call the "explodey thing", the star, can be turned off under "settings". However what it's doing is giving you valuble feedback about Pitch Rounding, automatic sliding into perfecti intonation, aka KeyX. And KeyY Expression. Finally, the designed behavior has evolved over 10 years and is based on the feedback of over 200,000 users. Your review is not constructive feedback. You could have viewed the learning materials (Menu> Help) or even reached out to us for assistance to clear up your mis-understandings. It does nothing to contribute to the GeoShred Community. ### 3/5 — Confusing interface and lots of bugs *2023-11-30* I’ve lost a lot of time because of little bugs like the midi port selector which does not work, unless you enable all ports. When I choose CC1 as a modulation, it sends a CC4! Seems like beta quality software… The GUI is very confusing and it’s hard to find where are the settings you need. **Developer response:** Veuillez travailler directement avec nous. Please help us find these to help the whole GeoShred community. I just tested sending CC1 from the preset "MIDI Out: MIDI Out Control" and it's correctly sending CC1. I'd love to understand how this is happening for you. BTW, using a review for technical support does not work well. Your review has a 1-3 day delay before it's posted to us and my response back to you will take 1-3 days. Really, it's better to reach out to us directly, rather than trying to repurpose a review as a bug report. Apple hat mit xcode 15 ein Problem eingeführt, bei dem Apps auf nicht unterstützten iOS-Geräten wie iOS 12 abstürzen. Wir sind auf xcode 14 zurückgegangen und GeoShred 6.000.0.6.2 behebt den Absturz. Please update to the latest version of GeoShred. 6.000.0.6.2. Apple introduced an issue with xcode 15 where apps crash on unsupported iOS like iOS 12. The controller app is useless, it doesn’t work via Bluetooth. I’m a bit reluctant to pay £50 a time for the various SWAM instruments, because if they’re all MPE then they aren’t going to work with my keyboard and I’m not wasting my money on them. **Developer response:** Jan 8, 2025 - Oct 31, 2024 - We have been trying to reach you for over 2 months and we feel the information in your review is incorrect and the one-star review is unfair. We don't think you understand how to setup blutooth MIDI (BLE) on an iOS/iPadOS device. I could not even open my DAW since it is scanning all my AUV3-s and it crashes when it tries to load this. Note that the major difference between AUv2 and Auv3 plugins is that the are not running in the DAW process space and if they die they should NOT crash the host. There was a YouTube video that said to use Studiomux. Most users get a hardware interface from iConnectivity or iRig. Yes we are heard from some users that studiomux is no longer being supported. Please note that StudioMux is from a different company. There is nothing we can do if they decide to not support their product. It's totally unfair for you to give us a one-star review because of windows limitations. We ask that you reach out to us for customer support and remove your review. Ask for help first before shooting. ### 1/5 — UI is nowhere near as fluid as it should be. *2024-05-06* The UI for G-Control is overly complex and honestly an eyesore in comparison to “Polyplayground”; a beautifully intuitive midi controller by the producer Mike Gao which works with all the swam instruments plus any other instrument ap you could think of, lets you design your synth natively for midi or audio export and doesn’t ask for repeated in-app purchases to gain full access to its features. Sorry to devs but the whole set up of this in conjunction with the other instrument apps just seems like an attempt to charge as much as possible. Overall not good value for money in comparison to older, more thoughtfully developed iOS programmes. **Developer response:** Hey Game|Boy ... "Not Good for the Money", what does that even mean? It's FREE! It's a FREE MPE/MIDI controller. It can function as a LinnStrument (NOT $1200 USD ) and the basic MIDI Out Control Preset is the same controller space as a Roli Seaboard (Not $800 USD) . Within the MIDI Association it's used as a reference for MPE implementations. Polyplayground is a very different concept, and you are correct, GeoShred Control is not Polyplayground, it's something different. It sounds like you approached it with a bunch of assumptions about what it YOU thought it SHOULD be, rather than what it is. You know what they say about when you assume ... The app runs without problem as AUv3, so can be embedded in bigger setups. But also just by itself it is a pleasure to use, because it is very musical and expressive. Beginning is easy, so first successes come quick. Mastering is another question as with any instrument. Toto make it short: a great instrument I highly recommend ### 5/5 — Amazing & innovative! *2026-06-02* I’ve tried many music apps over the years, but GeoShred genuinely feels different. It’s not just another synth app—it’s an expressive instrument that lets you bend, slide, and shape notes in a very natural way. The sounds are excellent, and when connected to a MIDI keyboard, it becomes even more powerful. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you get comfortable with it, the creative possibilities are amazing. I first heard of GeoShred through Rick Beato on YT. I downloaded this free version but was unsure how it worked since I’m very new to digital music interfacing. I emailed these guys and Pat Scandalis, who I believe helped create, this app replied to my email within a couple hours. He explained what I was and wasn’t getting with this free version very nicely and professionally, despite my obvious ignorance. after some research, I understand now how valuable this software is that I’m getting for free! This is a company and use people that are worth supporting five stars all the way. ### 5/5 — I can’t believe this MPE controller is free! *2025-03-30* I see all the complaints that it doesn’t make sound. But I think people misunderstand, it’s an MPE MIDI controller. I wouldn’t expect it to make sound. I could’ve spent close to $1000 for a Roli Seaboard, or a LinnStrument. I use this app on my iPad. My major use is with Naada instruments and as an MPE controller. I only faced an issue with the app once, and it was resolved by the team in less than 24 hours. It works like a charm. I highly recommend recommend it. P.S.
