## What is GERIATRÍA?

La Sociedad de Geriatría y Gerontología de Chile tiene como finalidad fomentar el avance del conocimiento sobre el proceso de envejecimiento humano y agrupa a profesionales que estudian los problemas de la vejez, siguiendo los criterios de la O.M.S. y de la Asociación Internacional de Gerontología, promoviendo sistemas de formación y educación continuada con todas las disciplinas en relación con las ciencias del envejecimiento. Ha funcionado regularmente durante todo este período con reuniones mensuales, actuando tanto en Santiago como en regiones, y orhaniza cursos y congresos anualmente y ha patrocinado en forma regular eventos científicos.

Esta Sociedad está afiliada desde que se constituyó a la I.A.G. (International Association of Gerontology) y ha tenido presencia en el Congreso Mundial de la Especialidad efectuado en Budapest en 1993, en Adelaida en 1997 y en Vancouver en el 2001.
