I still tutor a few students in German and I try to suggest learning tools that appeal to young people. Apps are an obvious choice and this is one of my favorites. A lot of students are tempted to use online translators but those can lead to some bad habits. It’s important for students to use reference tools like dictionaries and verb conjugation tables to build a strong foundation. This app has a comprehensive dictionary including noun gender, multiple translations and usage examples. The nouns are classified as masculine, feminine and the neuter but it could be improved by adding the der, die, das articles. Verb conjugations can be found in the dictionary which is a helpful. Most dictionaries don’t include them in the dictionary so you get stuck when you try to look them up. The verb conjugations feature is the best I’ve seen. There are also some fun practice tools like multiple choice vocabulary quizzes and flash cards. I can work on phrases for common situations whenever I have a few free moments, and refer to it overseas when I need help with a sign or menu, or get some help when asking for something. I use it many times a day when in Europe. It is very fast and intuitive. After "translating more than 12,000 characters" the app informs you that you've translated 12,000 characters and ads will be show again. The description says nothing about showing ads after their limit of 12,000 characters. Do I feel cheated? You bet! Silence from the author when I challenged them on this. They need to update their description and be honest that you are not getting unlimited use of their app when you buy it! ### 1/5 — A total waste of money *2018-02-27* The dictionary doesn't even give you the plural forms of the German words and the conjugator doesn't have the imperative. First, the glaring flaw - it does not provide plural forms of German nouns. Since these forms are irregular, they are essential to have in a dictionary. The minor issue - it could have more words. I regularly get no result when searching for less common German words. There is no limitation of physical space. Add more words please! If these two flaws were fixed, I’d give this five stars. ### 1/5 — Lot's of missing words. *2013-11-10, version 5.3.25* Bizarre in that even simple words are not in this dictionary. On the positive side there are many features offered that seem to work reasonably well. If one only needs a quick and easy tool for searching very common words along with verb endings this might be ok for you. But if you are serious about getting a good German dictionary this isn't it. There are numerous errors in gender, spelling, and translation that make this utility confusing to use. On many occasions I've brought up these errors -- along with the serious omission of noun plurals -- to the authors. Their "canned" response is that they know about it and the next release will fix it.
