I gave it a four star because the app should have a word repeat timer on it so you don't have to hit the sound button over and over again. ### 4/5 — Very good app, a couple shortcomings *2011-07-19, version 3.6.7* I really like how this app has helped me learn, especially via the "write in" method! Some thoughts: 1. The write in method should not accept non-umlaut characters when the word is spelled with them. For example, the app considers "fur" as a correct answer, when "für" is actually correct. 2. The chime played for correct answers is always at maximum volume. 3. I must learn specific German words for my courses. If this app allowed me to create/upload your own flashcard data, i would gladly pay twice the price of the Vocab & Phrases apps! ### 5/5 — Best German learning tool *2011-04-16, version 3.6.7* This is the best learning tool I have seen yet. That means, literally, can I use the bathroom. ### 5/5 — Be sure of the facts *2010-08-14, version 0* Brilliant Brunette should not be so quick to criticize. First, Germans especially younger people do say "Ich mag ..." such as "Ich mag Eis." (I like ice cream.). "Eis gefaelt mir" is more formal, but as my German exchange student told me, none of her friends ( probably not even her parents) would use the formal version. Also note it is "defaelt" not "glaubt", which means believe. ### 5/5 — Nice app *2010-06-28, version 0* I use this for studying and get a 100 on most of my tests. The different sections of the app make it fun so you don't get bored with one type of memory challenge, and the flash card section with audio also helps with pronunciation as well as memory. I couldn't find basic phrases that were truly basic. "Hello", "Goodbye", "Please" and "Thank you" are all missing, and I didn't even bother looking for other phrases I'd like to know. There are a lot more errors than just that too my German teacher at school said that i shouldn't use this app. ### 1/5 — Very unimpressed *2010-07-30, version 0* Horrible app. I got it as a refresher, and there are a lot of flaws. First, it directly translates English to German. If you say "I'm sorry" the way the app does, germans will think whatever happened acctually makes you sad. Also, Germans don't say "Ich mag ___" (I like ___) they say "___ glaubt mich" (___ pleases me). Last, it is just random vocabulary, that you don't know how to use. "Ich adfahren gestern" is not how you would say I arrived yesterday, it is "Ich bin gestern abgefahren," but since there is no actual teaching in this app, nobody would know that.
