### 3/5 — Nice and simple scrolling

*2022-04-18, version 1.1.5*

Update: after an app update I does not keep track of my current position and in stead start me at the beginning of the current chapter. So any time you leave the app or start another book it loses your place. There does not seem to be a way to navigate to manual bookmark positions

I used to use iBooks with the scrolling view but after a terrible update iBooks scroll became unusable(super janky and constantly loosing your page). I tried many reader alternatives and this is by far the best experience. It's UI is a little weird but it stays out of the way for the most part. Much better then iBooks ever was

### 2/5 — OK for reading - BAD for notes

*2019-08-19, version 1.1.5*

Came here for auto scroll but disappointed by how the note taking is handled. This app could use serious update:
Sharing/Copy/pasting text only results in pasting the cover image of the book in your text document/email.
If you stay within the app, it works alright but then it gets hard/impossible to organize your notes when you’re a writer doing research etc and need to move your text around.
If you dont need anything else than reading, maybe that app is for you.

### 2/5 — Zero Support

*2019-04-03, version 1.1.5*

Bought app, had a problem, multiple tries to get in touch with support, was ignored.

### 2/5 — Dropbox no longer supported

*2018-08-17, version 1.1.5*

Due to a dropbox upgrade, currently Gerty does NOT support dropbox sync. The ONLY reason I purchased.

### 2/5 — Terribly muddled and inconsistent UI

*2017-08-19, version 1.1.5*

Non-standard UI makes basic actions hard.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2017-08-05, version 1.1.5*

All in one

### 3/5 — Lots of ideas but

*2016-06-08, version 1.1.5*

There are a lot of things in this app that are good ideas, though the implementation is cumbersome.

It definitely needs highlighting and easy export to Evernote of just the highlights without metadata and without book cover pics attached to each highlight.

I was a user of Marvin previous to this and still find that app better for EPub. Actually, I'm finding I want to convert ePub files to word or PDF just to use the liquidtext iOS app, that app is massively innovative and seamless in its note taking and overall reading experience. I do still like this app for autoscrollso I'll keep it on the iPad to see if it gets updates.

### 2/5 — Crashes when I try import books

*2016-04-04, version 1.1.5*

I was so excited to find this program but I am unable to get it to run on my iPad pro. After starting imports from either iCloud, iTunes, or dropbox it minimizes and never comes back. If i uninstall in and reinstall it will start up and show me the program start screen but then just crashes again if i try to import even a single book.

### 2/5 — ONE THING RIGHT, TWO THINGS WRONG

*2016-03-17, version 1.1.5*

Gerty does vertical scrolling. Excellent. Marvin needs vertical scrolling. But no highlighting or underlining? Its not a reading app without highlighting or underlining. The theme choices are nice but perhaps make them customizable. Please give Marvin vertical scrolling and both Marvin and Gerty underlining.

### 2/5 — not worth it

*2016-03-14, version 1.1.5*

lacks the flexibility and functionality of other similar apps

### 5/5 — Amazing app...the almost ONE for a book addict

*2016-01-22, version 1.1.5*

Wish it had ability to add other formats such as .mobi and .djvu, and I'd switch to it exclusively as my reading App!

The ability to add notes is so simply elegant...and then to export as ePub is priceless. Would be nice to add ability to export journal notes to PDF or to One Note would be nice too.

### 2/5 — Should've read the reviews...

*2016-01-06, version 1.1.5*

No highlighting or underlining... Even with all of its nice features, this omission means it's not really an app for many of us trying to use it for studying.

### 2/5 — Overly Broad Dropbox Access

*2015-12-20, version 1.1.5*

The app asks for complete Dropbox access; this is unacceptable. A single folder, sure, but complete access is just not ok for a third party app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Sounds good...

*2020-10-23, version 1.1.5*

Until you download the app and there are no instructions on how to actually use it.

### 1/5 — App Support?

*2019-03-24, version 1.1.5*

I can’t get the dyslexia font to work. When I went to try to contact support, I was just redirected to their page with no info on how to contact support. I was really excited to use this app because of the font.

### 1/5 — Dropbox Syncing

*2018-03-27, version 1.1.5*

Dropbox syncing does not work and their website provides not information as to how to troubleshoot it nor is their tech staff responsive.

### 1/5 — Abandoned app

*2017-12-11, version 1.1.5*

The application hasn’t been updated for 2 years, Dropbox integration doesn’t seem to work anymore. Too bad, it could have been a great app.

### 1/5 — Hilariously nonfunctional compared to Marvin

*2017-07-31, version 1.1.5*

This app shouldn't even exist. An "e-reader" that doesn't support pagination... Ridiculous!

### 1/5 — No highlighting?!

*2016-05-14, version 1.1.5*

No highlighting?! Are you kidding me. I bought the unlock and everything. So much potential but so useless without such a key feature.

### 1/5 — What is the dev thinking?

*2015-12-20, version 1.1.5*

This is a great ebook reader, as long as you don't need to highlight anything.
But I do, so it's useless.
He went to all the trouble to add journaling and other features not found in other apps, but witheld the most basic. It boggles the mind.

### 1/5 — This is not the ePub reader you're looking for

*2015-09-19, version 1.1.5*

The dev doesn't seem interested in adding real ePub 3.0 support when there are free alternatives that handle it just fine. Sure the UI is nice, but who really cares when 95% of your time in this app is spent actually reading a book. There was no reason for the dev to release this app when he already had the superior app Marvin, other than just to double-dip his customer base. His time would have been better spent on improving Marvin, but instead we ended up with 2 sub-par apps that rarely get updated, neither of which truly support ePub 3.0.

### 1/5 — ebook researcher

*2015-09-14, version 1.1.5*

One question. Did someone forget to place a highlighter in the app? A vast number of us need to highlight our ebooks. Tried it extensively with the same review I'm sure that they know by now that users are requesting a highlighter, margin control, background & font selections and page turn selections but it appears without these this app is destined to the mediocre status that it deserve, I'm personally sticking with real epub and epub 3 readers.

### 2/5 — Review of full version

*2020-07-19, version 1.1.5*

Used to love it until one day, landscape disappeared. Wrote to help desk- no response, can’t figure how to get it back. The full version states it has landscape.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best ebook reader

*2018-11-13, version 1.1.5*

It is easy to switch color modes and change text sizes. I love the auto scroll.

### 5/5 — Perfect for me

*2018-09-18, version 1.1.5*

I was looking for a reader that can handle Gutenberg Project books by verticals scrolling. I read on my iPad, have had cataract surgery and require 3.5 readers. I have problems with only the center of my glasses being in focus- the rest of my screen is not a clear- so I prefer verticals scrolling. I can keep my eye focused in one place and move the text rapidly into that field of vision. It's especially useful in portrait mode if I am reading in bed on my side before falling asleep.

I like the ability to size the font and space the lines and adjust the color of the page and brightness. Combined, these features very much improve my reading enjoyment.

It's very easy to find an epub format of free online books and then "open" it in this app. Nice library of icon-images of the books. I don't really use any other features. I am a fast reader, often finishing it in a couple of days.

### 5/5 — iPhone X support

*2018-03-09, version 1.1.5*

Please update for iPhone X support.
I can’t say how much I like it, as I just downloaded it. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Favorite e-reader!

*2017-10-15, version 1.1.5*

Gerry is beautiful, easy to use, and had lots of fantastic customisation options. I wish I could use this to read my iBooks and Kindle purchases.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2017-07-15, version 1.1.5*

I would go as far as to say its the best free e-reader around. The Simple UI makes it great and using drop box is a must. Keep it up guys.

### 5/5 — Use it all the time

*2017-02-21, version 1.1.5*

I use this daily, I'm always reading and this is the perfect way to store all the books and fictions I find that are not from the iBook store.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I have been looking for!lly

*2016-10-07, version 1.1.5*

This app has everything I could hope for reading on my phone. Auto-scroll, dropbox linked, & an option to add photos! (and more) So happy to find this & really worth what I paid for the full version :) Thanks for putting so much thought into what users want!

### 5/5 — Actually works with calibre library when stored in Dropbox

*2016-04-10, version 1.1.5*

It isn't perfect, but it can find my calibre library in Dropbox and let's me get at my books on iOS. It doesn't read metadata, etc., but I'm just happy I can filter and search, and I've had no problems with stability or crashes.

### 5/5 — Fantastic reading app

*2016-04-01, version 1.1.5*

Being putting up with Kindle's incompetence for a while, this app came as a savior. The auto vertical scroll is a killer feature for me. And UI is ten times better than Kindle's. Hope the developer can keeping improving the app. Good job!

### 5/5 — Great as an Epub reader

*2016-02-20, version 1.1.5*

I only use it to read epub files.
Its conveniently fast which is all i need
Thank you
