### 4/5 — Functional with room for improvement

*2025-01-20, version 5.13.0*

Been using the app for Ryan’s push/pull/legs workout and it’s functional but not a whole lot better than a notebook. A few specific updates that would help:

- the rest timer is absurdly quiet, can hardly hear it over music
- it’s also lame; I want Ryan yelling at me that times up and I need to stop being a pitch
- if you move forward in the working after a set to prepare for the next exercise, the timer stops
- no decimal increments for weight and no option for KGs for us international fans
- my workouts don’t auto-populate the weight I used last time, which I can do on paper
- the overall functionality is clunky to deal with during an intense workout. Last thing I want to be doing while I’m trying not to vom is tinkering around with the silly buttons
- doesn’t integrate with anything so not much point in keeping in the app and having to transfer elsewhere

All they said, the workout is a beast. Wouldn’t be nice to have more meat on this app to do it.

### 3/5 — Want to keep but glitches

*2025-01-04, version 5.13.0*

The glitches prevent you from hitting next set to effectively cycle through workouts and the rest cycles

### 3/5 — Missing one key feature

*2025-01-03, version 5.13.0*

This app would be amazing if you had the ability to see the weight you logged on each workout previously. For instance, I’m on week two of a program and if I want to see how much weight I did on week one, I can’t do that without closing the workout I’m on.

### 5/5 — Updates are awesome

*2024-11-25, version 5.13.0*

His workouts are great and the app is so easy to use. You literally start your plan and the workouts are scheduled out and easy to follow.

### 4/5 — Forgets password

*2024-11-19, version 5.13.0*

I can sign in on a browser no trouble . Unfortunately the App don’t recognise Email or Password. I use a iPhone and iPad .The app itself I might as well delete because I can’t get in

### 3/5 — Can’t even login

*2024-11-07, version 5.13.0*

Bought a new program. I wanted to load it on the app but I can’t even sign in on the app. Website is fine. I reset my password still nothing. Filled out a support ticket and also crickets. I hope Ryan didn’t pay these guys a lot for this (not)work.

Updated to 3 I figured out a way to login.

### 3/5 — Best workouts but app needs a clean up

*2024-11-02, version 5.13.0*

I’m in the best shape of my life thanks to Ryan and this app. All the problems are to do with the UI. 1) if you miss a workout or two you then need to move them separately to keep the program correct. This has the effect of messing up the schedule of every upcoming workout going forward. This is a pain to fix as each workout then needs to moved manually. Being able to insert an unexpected non workout day or days so the upcoming workouts all move ahead would be AMAZING. 2) timers don’t work if you click away from that exercise 3) Apple Watch integration 4) needs to support both lbs and kg and make the conversions when you switch (this would make it travel friendly) Otherwise this is the best workout I’ve done and people notice the gains in size and shape. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Basically perfect

*2024-10-09, version 5.13.0*

Great way to schedule and keep track of a workout without writing everything down. Can both work for newbies or advanced lifters. Only thing I wish for each exercise would be a very small description of what that exercise targets. For a newbie, that's the most common question they have. This comment usually just goes for biceps but overall amazing app wish I saw this when I started lifting

### 5/5 — Has taken my training to a new level!

*2024-09-10, version 5.13.0*

Im not a person to track workouts but I am now. The only thing I regret is not finding a program like this sooner. Since downloading and using this app I have been able to put more muscle on and I no longer have to come up with workouts. Its all done for you! Could not recommend this any more for people who are serious about stepping up their results in the gym.

### 3/5 — Needs some polish

*2024-09-04, version 5.13.0*

The workouts are great but the app itself needs work. Sometimes the descriptions don’t match the exercises as you’re in the middle of a workout and clicking through (rest period description versus built-in timers or the terms “sets” and “rounds” are used interchangeably when they shouldn’t be). It’s difficult to move to a previous step and edit info when a workout is in progress. It could really benefit from someone going through the workouts and editing the errors to make it more user friendly.

### 5/5 — 1 week in and I’m dying

*2024-08-26, version 5.13.0*

1 week in and I’m dying! Solid

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-08-22, version 5.13.0*

Great content, great guidance, great guy.
10/10

I’m going to wipe the brown off my nose now.

### 4/5 — Forgets password

*2024-08-06*

I can sign in on a browser no trouble . Unfortunately the App don’t recognise Email or Password. I use a iPhone and iPad .

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible app great programming

*2025-11-26, version 5.17.1*

This app is so buggy it’s almost unusable at most times. I wish I had another way to get in touch with the developer because I’d love to report these bugs appropriately, so they can get fixed but I can’t find any contact info anywhere. To many bugs to list on a review but PLEASE bring the app up to the level of the programming Ryan brings to the table. It’s really hard to follow a workout when your sets, reps, and weights don’t save right and the rest timer randomly stops.

### 1/5 — Only opens 1 of the 4 programs I have

*2025-09-12, version 5.17.1*

I have the Garage 2.0, Backed by Science 2.0, Garage 30 minute Hypertrophy, and Ultimate Upper/Lower Garage programs. The only one it’ll let me start or view workouts on the app is the backed by science one. The others glitch and don’t give me the option.

### 1/5 — Sign up ??

*2025-04-30, version 5.17.1*

Did the developers really forget to create a signup page on launch ???

### 1/5 — App Always Crashes

*2025-02-18, version 5.17.1*

Big fan of Ryan’s workouts but man this app constantly crashes in the middle of my workouts so you have to relaunch and click through 8 options before finding your spot again. Happens at least 4 times per workout. I largely stopped using it and take screenshots of the workouts instead. Please fix!!!

### 1/5 — Issues

*2024-02-11, version 5.11.3*

I love this app and have been using it almost everyday. As of today I tried to get on and move a workout to another day and it keeps giving me issues so I deleted the app and now I can not get back into it, I know my
Password is 100% right but if need be I would change it however the password change won’t work either. This is a huge issue for me considering the frequency at which I would normally use this app. This needs to be fixed ASAP

### 1/5 — Great programs but....

*2023-11-18*

I love Ryan's programs but this app is just a complete dog poop and has the distinct possibility of running Ryan's good name. Suggested improvements: allow the programs to be selected from a list on the homepage.

### 2/5 — Max-min

*2026-05-14, version 5.17.1*

Bro split, junk volume, max effort for diminishing returns. Just hard for the sake of… ego? Masculinity? Dude needs therapy. The app design is pretty decent though

### 2/5 — Not ready, too expensive

*2023-11-19, version 5.11.3*

I was excited when I saw he released an app, then I downloaded it, clicked around confused for a few minutes and then realized it would be the most expensive app subscription I’ve purchased. Not even doing the trial at that price (20/month).

For being the most expensive subscription I’ve seen, I would expect a polished app. You’re paying for a subpar app and Ryan’s content.

His full gym and 2.0 programs have noticeably more content and effort put into them than the backed by science program all on his current website (which has a different login). The only way this app could possibly provide $20 a month is providing those high quality programs like his website, but I can’t see how he could produce that every month and even then I don’t need a new program every single month.

PLEASE let me just purchase programs the same as your website, but in app when I want.

### 3/5 — Needs attention

*2025-12-10, version 5.17.1*

I wish I could give it more stars because the workouts are great, but the app is just so clunky and lacking in direction. You basically have to figure it out yourself.

### 3/5 — App OK, work is brutal

*2025-02-07, version 5.17.1*

App is ok, but unpolished, glitchy, and not intuitive. Makes adding/subbing exercises in a pain. Weights, reps, or sets will automatically switch, not completely log, or completely disappear while in workout. Makes it difficult to trust the volume sum at post workout. Calendar needs option to display volume to compare between completed workouts. Makes it easier to track if I’m getting after it or if my fat butt is just performing poorly. Needs work.

Workouts from Ryan are very high volume with minimal resting between sets. 2025 upper/lower program is heavy on compound shoulder volume. It starts to wear on you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-06-04, version 5.17.1*

Really good work from Ryan.

### 5/5 — How it’s done!

*2026-05-10, version 5.17.1*

This is one of the best gym apps on the market period. If you’re wondering how to do an exercise the correct way, look no further. Lots of extras as well, including custom programs etc. Amazing!

### 5/5 — Old to New

*2026-04-29, version 5.17.1*

I had an account using the older platform thinkific and this caused some issues creating an account in the Swole app. Submitted a request and had immediate attention. They helped me set up my email address and even assisted me with getting already acquired programs back. Plan on using the heck out of this app and purchasing more plans. 10 out of 10 would bang

### 5/5 — Excellent workouts

*2025-12-28, version 5.17.1*

Ryan puts a lot of research and time into his information and from what I can see, is continually evolving. Great app and no subscriptions. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Very good app

*2025-09-27, version 5.17.1*

All in all, a great workout app.

Love the simplicity and tracking. Also the fact that you buy the program rather than subscribe

One weakness I see is adding or subbing exercises. You have to search and add each and every time - please make it so I can add an exercise and select the number of sets rather than searching and adding 3x to get 3 sets. That would be SOOOO much easier

### 5/5 — Incredibly easy to use

*2025-07-27, version 5.17.1*

The workouts are amazing on the app and incredibly easy to follow. I’d honestly by the programme for the tracking of workouts alone. Programme I’m on is the newest and so easy to use with the switching out of exercises when I can’t access that piece of equipment. Been going the gym 6+ years and by far the best app I have used.

### 5/5 — Ryan is the man!

*2025-03-02, version 5.17.1*

I love the full gym 3.0 program and this app is awesome. Love everything about it. Only thing I would change is that sometimes the videos shut off my music playing at the gym. But the videos are awesome. I’ve sent this program and app to all of my buddies that are just getting into lifting because the reps sets and tutorials on how to lift. I’ve been working out since I was 12 and I’ve done multiple different workout plans football workouts where you rep and slightly increase weekly to the 12, 10, 8 going up 10 pounds each set like the Arnold method to the every rep and set to burnout/ failure and then to Ryan’s program with low rep high weight one week high rep lower weight the next week shocking the muscle and Ryan’s way has made me stronger then I’ve ever been. I recommend this to everyone but if you could fix the music cutting off that would be great

### 5/5 — Keeps it interesting

*2025-02-11, version 5.17.1*

I’ve followed Ryan on YouTube and Insta for over a year now. I started with his garage workout before the app. Love the fact he has an app now. Once you get the hang of the app, which took no time at all! You love it. Thanks for your dedication to getting results!

### 5/5 — Typical Humiston

*2024-12-10, version 5.13.0*

This app is typical of Humiston It’s excellent quality. Well laid out the work out are brutally hard but you see great games off of his programs. This is the second program of his. I’ve used the first one in the app. The app is great with the videos available for every workout and how it just moves immediately to the next Set for you keeps track of everything it eliminate some of the challenge of being able to think about what’s next in your workout it’s just OK here’s what’s next. The downside of this app is that every once in a while in your workout, you’ll go to open your phone and log it and it’s closed and then you have to go back And re-enter one or two set. It’s a minor issue, but the workouts are amazing.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2024-12-02, version 5.13.0*

Great app, Easy to use and follow. One thing I would ask for is being able to use decimals places for weights in Kg’s. Currently it will only let you input whole numbers.

Cheers. 💪🏼
