## What is Getaways?

Your weekend, planned together and narrated on the way there.

Because getting there is the getaway.

ONE SCREEN
Every getaway lives on a single feed and wears whatever state it's in — an invite waiting on your answer, a vote in progress, a guide being written, a drive ready to go, a weekend you already had. Below yours: ready-made drives near you, for when you want to leave in an hour. One button starts the next — paste a stay, pick an idea, join with a code, or just drive.

DRIVES THAT START AT YOUR DOORSTEP
Tap Near me and the answers begin where you're standing. An evening in Dublin offers Livermore wine country up the road, Niles Canyon through the trees, and Mount Diablo an hour out — three cards at three real distances, with drive times measured from you, not the nearest big city.

PLAN IT TOGETHER
Paste the link to the stay you booked — Airbnb, Vrbo, a hotel — and Getaways builds the trip around it: a real name, a real map, days sketched with places worth leaving the cabin for. Can't agree? It proposes getaways nearby and the group votes. Friends join from one link and vote from the web — no account, no install.

ONE SCHEDULE EVERYONE SEES
Every trip keeps a shared schedule, grouped by day. Add dinner, a show, a hike — or attach a narrated drive to the morning you'll take it — and it lands on everyone's phone.

A PLANNER THAT LISTENS
Type the weekend the way you'd text it. "Friday: Omnia at 11. Saturday brunch at Bacchanal. Sphere show Sunday at 7." The planner hands back a proposal — every change its own row, with the reason it thought so. Keep it all, drop a row, or answer its one question. Nothing reaches the group until you say yes, and your note is read on your phone, not a server.

THE CONCIERGE
Press start and someone is there. "This is Livermore Wine Country — 14 stories along the way." If the road begins across town, it promises to come get you: "we'll start about ten minutes north of here; I'll pick you up there." The moment you reach it: "Here we are — first story coming up in half a mile." A soft chime rings before each story.

THEN IT TALKS ON THE WAY THERE
Every trip writes its own narrated drive for the route you're taking. As you approach a waterfall, an overlook, a bridge with a story, a voice speaks up — "coming up on your left…" — all grounded in real facts. Music dips under it and comes right back. It's all prepared before you leave, so it works past the last bar of signal.

STORY, OR ROUTE
The player has two places and a door between them. Story: full-screen artwork that changes with every telling, a scrubber, skip forward and back, an up-next queue, the transcript when you'd rather read. Route: the living map — your car, the road filling in behind you, the stories ahead as markers you can tap to hear now.

SEARCH THAT NEVER DEAD-ENDS
One field over curated drives, getaway ideas, and everywhere else. Type a mood, a town, a park. If we haven't written your road yet, the last row still offers it — anywhere you can drive becomes a getaway.

EVERY CAR HEARS IT
The guide belongs to the trip, not the phone that made it. Anyone on the trip opens it on their own phone, and each car triggers stories off its own GPS. Two cars, one narrator.

DRIVES WORTH TAKING
You don't need a trip to take a drive. Download a ready-made one — Yosemite, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, Malibu, Joshua Tree, Mount Rainier, the Columbia Gorge, Livermore, Niles Canyon, Mount Diablo. Each gets a page of its own first: how long, how far, how many stories, the road on a map, what to know before you leave. Then one button.

THE DETAILS
• Sign in once with Apple, Google, email, or your phone number. No passwords, ever.
• A Live Activity keeps the next story on your Lock Screen, phone face down.
• Open any stop in Apple Maps; drop the big moments into your calendar.
• Parking and arrival tips for the stops that need them, from official sources.

The next free weekend is closer than the group chat makes it feel. Step into more.

### 5/5 — Gifts for Travelers

*2026-02-10*

A true gift for travelers.
Getaway makes trips easier and more thoughtfully planned. Every journey comes with the same hopes—to have fun, feel cared for, stay present, and connect with local culture—but actually making that happen is hard, especially when traveling with kids, a spouse, or a partner. Getaway is a strong step toward solving that problem, and I’m genuinely excited to see where it goes next.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.8.0 — 2026-08-04

Getaways is one screen now - and the drive that ends every getaway finally has a guide who says hello, picks you up, and talks the whole way there.

ONE SURFACE
Tabs are gone. Trips you're planning, invites waiting on your answer, and ready-made drives near you are all the same card, wearing whatever state it's in - "3 of 5 voted," "your narrator is reading up on Oakhurst," "18 stories await." One + button starts the next: paste a stay, pick an idea, join with a code, or just drive.

STORY, OR ROUTE
The narrated drive has a stage with two places and a named door between them. Story: full-screen artwork that changes with every telling, a real scrubber, skip forward and back, the up-next queue, and the transcript when you'd rather read. Route: the living map - where you are, the road filling in behind you, and the stories ahead as markers you can tap to hear now. One tap moves between them and nothing stops playing.

THE CONCIERGE
Press start and someone is there. "This is Livermore Wine Country - 14 stories along the way." If the road begins across town, the guide says so and promises to collect you - "we'll start about ten minutes north of here; I'll pick you up there" - then hands off the moment you arrive: "Here we are - first story coming up in half a mile." A soft chime rings before each story. Parked right on the first stop? It simply begins.

BEFORE YOU GO
Every drive now opens on a page of its own: how long, how far, how many stories, the road drawn on a map, the stops laid out, and what to know before you leave. Then one button - and a drive you can end from the bar, with an x or a swipe.

DRIVES THAT START AT YOUR DOORSTEP
Near me means near you. Three ideas at three real distances, ranked and timed from where you're actually standing - an evening in Dublin gets Pleasanton, not somebody else's downtown. Three new East Bay drives to prove it: Livermore Wine Country, Niles Canyon & Sunol, and Mount Diablo Summit Road.

MORE BAY, AND A SEARCH THAT NEVER DEAD-ENDS
78 new Bay Area destinations. One search field over drives, ideas, and everywhere else - type a mood, a town, a park, and if we haven't written your road yet, the last row still offers it.

ONE SCHEDULE, AND A PLANNER THAT LISTENS
Every trip keeps a shared schedule, grouped by day: add dinner, a show, a hike, or attach a narrated drive to the morning you'll take it, and it lands on everyone's phone. Or type the weekend the way you'd text it - "Friday: Omnia at 11. Sphere show Sunday at 7" - and the planner hands back a proposal, every change its own row with its reason. Keep it all, drop a row, or answer the one question it asks. Nothing reaches the group until you say yes.

SIGN IN ONCE
Apple, Google, email, or your phone number - one tap at first launch, no passwords anywhere. Your getaways follow you to a new phone and survive a reinstall. Friends you invite still vote from the web with no account and no install.

Plus steadier drives throughout: stories authored a little off the road are heard instead of skipped, the Lock Screen counts down to the first one, and a car parked on the starting line no longer waits in silence.

Thanks for driving with us. Questions or ideas? We're listening.

### 0.7.2 — 2026-07-23

Getaways is two apps in one - narrated Drives and group Trips - and this update gives them one home.

NEW - HOME & TAB BAR
A native bottom tab bar puts Home, Drives, and Trips one tap apart. Home greets you first: drives near you, a card to join a friend's trip from their link or code, and the trips you already have going.

DRIVES - narrated road trips, now with scenery
- Real photography for every drive, from Big Sur's coastline to Multnomah Falls - with photographer credits where they belong.
- The natural narrator now ships inside the app. No setup, no download - install, pick a drive, and the voice is ready. Fully offline.
- Listen before you go: tap any stop to unfold its story and hear it read aloud, transcript right on the page.
- New drive: Columbia Gorge Waterfalls - twenty stops along the historic highway.

TRIPS - plan the getaway together
- Paste your stay link or pick a getaway, and the plan builds itself.
- Friends vote from one link - no accounts needed - and voting closes on its own.
- See who's coming: add your crew to the roster, right on the board.
- Put the drive in the plan: schedule a narrated drive into your itinerary - Day 2, 1 to 5 PM, drive.
- Your trip's drives ride along on the way out - because getting there is the getaway.

Plus bug fixes and user-flow improvements throughout: smoother first launch, steadier trip creation, invites that stick, and drives that match your trips more reliably.

Thanks for driving with us. Questions or ideas? We're listening.

### 0.7.1 — 2026-07-19

Getaways is two apps in one — narrated Drives and group Trips — and 0.7.1 gives them a proper home, with a bottom tab bar to move between them in a single tap.

NEW — HOME & TAB BAR
A native bottom tab bar puts Home, Drives, and Trips one tap apart. Home greets you first: drives near you, a card to join a friend's trip from a link, and the trips you already have going. New here? Home doubles as the tour — browse every drive and start your first trip from the same screen.

DRIVES — narrated road trips, now with scenery
• Real photography everywhere, from Big Sur's coastline to Christine Falls — with photographer credits where they belong.
• The natural narrator now ships inside the app. No setup, no download — install, pick a drive, and the voice is ready.
• Listen before you go: tap any stop to unfold its story and hear it read aloud, transcript right on the page.
• Download a drive and a friendly voice tells the road's stories as you pass them — fully offline, with parking tips for the stops that need them.

TRIPS — plan the getaway together
• Paste your stay link or pick a getaway, and the plan builds itself.
• Friends vote from one link — no accounts needed — and voting closes on its own.
• See who's coming: add everyone to the roster so the whole crew is on the board.
• Your trip's narrated drive rides along on the way out — because getting there is the getaway.

Thanks for driving with us. Questions or ideas? We're listening.

### 0.7.0 — 2026-07-16

Getaways grew a second half: Drives.

NEW — DRIVES
A tab of downloadable narrated drives — Yosemite, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, Malibu, Joshua Tree, and Mount Rainier to start. Download one, drive, and a friendly voice tells the road's stories as you pass them: "coming up on your left…" Works fully offline, with parking and arrival tips for the stops that need them.

BETTER TRIPS
• Paste your Airbnb, Vrbo, or hotel link and watch the board build itself — the app now narrates each planning stage as it thinks.
• Trips get real names ("Yosemite & Sequoia weekend," not the listing title).
• Every trip's own Trip Guide rides along on the drive out.
• Group voting closes itself; friends still join from one link, no account needed.

### 0.6.3 — 2026-03-19

Version 0.6.3 improves how Getaways finds and presents trips.

• Better getaway discovery with more realistic destination suggestions
• Expanded metro coverage for destination-first results
• Richer stop detail pages with images, place details, and nearby suggestions
• Clearer trip context across cards and plan detail
• Better location handling, thumbnails, and overall reliability
