After an update, for several months now, the app lost its ability to ‘tap on the screen to focus’ while attempting to scan a barcode. It used to work just like taking a picture, where you could tap and it would bring the barcode into focus. now the app has 0 ability to refocus. so if you aren’t holding the item barcode at some unknown perfect distance when first clicking to scan, it will never scan. you have to back out of the attempt and try again - often taking several attempts to scan the item. It used to be possible to tap to focus - and other working scan pay go apps (like sam’s club) handle this fine. Not sure where giant eagle is putting their giant profits - but it’s certainly not in improving the shopping experience. this app is completely overlooked - no wonder most people use the scan guns. ### 2/5 — Wish better *2026-02-21, version 1.4* You have to go back and after each scan to " catch" the barcode. I started using it to avoid an agonizingly long line during some holiday shopping a few months ago, and it was great to start. It needs work on accessing the camera on phones, as it often doesn’t connect properly and you can’t change the focus of the camera once it’s been opened - thus not allowing your phone to focus on the barcode of a product. Customer service says that it is common for it to not work. But since we upgraded our phones to IOS 26 the scanning of the product barcodes is very glitchy. Most of the time you cannot get the camera to come into focus on the product barcodes. If you close the scan window and reopen you can sometimes get the app to scan. So it no longer can see barcodes unless held very far from the camera. The handheld scanners are your best bet if you want to scan and pay. It works just like the actual scanner at the front when you first enter the stores!! 5/5 stars, Definitely recommend! ### 5/5 — Does the job *2022-04-03, version 1.3* Looks like UX from 10 years ago but functionally sound. It scans quickly and even scans uneven surfaces well. Never had an issue at the weigh stations or the checkout. Seems silly to have to go to a checkout station but I guess if you had paper coupons or whatever it would be useful. It could be easier to remove items but not enough to reduce the star count. ### 5/5 — I Love this app *2020-08-25* Well it’s about time, go through the store scan your stuff, as you go put it directly into the bag, scan the barcode on any register, pay and walk out the door. gotta love it!! Unfortunately, it seems they have wasted a bunch of money putting the Scan guns on the rack as you walk in the store. I’ve noticed that a lot of people have a problem with the scampi and go kiosk registers however you can go to the self checkout register or a register with the cashier just scan the barcode that’s in front of you, Pay the cashier and leave. that’s it this is the best way to do it ### 5/5 — game changer *2020-05-16* first time use today i’m very happy with the experience. app was easy to use and glitch free no problem connecting to the store wi-fi security and signal strength weren’t an issue at my local store. the convenience of scanning and bagging as you go makes this app a dream. i read through all the help tips before starting to make sure i understood the process, the help menu is in the app and very helpful, i used the pay and go checkout it works like a regular self checkout once you scan the order completed barcode on the screen, then just choose payment method you don’t have to link your credit card to the app so that’s great. if i find a issue i’ll update but otherwise love it. ### 5/5 — Great app *2020-02-01, version 1.3* Much better experience than dealing with humans! So far I have not had to wait in any line at the checkout kiosk(Streetsboro store)but I expect there will be some bottlenecks as more people realize how much easier and faster this is. ### 5/5 — Works Great For Me *2019-12-29* After using this app 3 times now without a hitch, I’m not sure where these bad reviews are coming from. I love that I can scan my produce as I pick it out then take it all with me to weigh at the convenient stations in the produce section. I feel that the app is easy to understand and navigate. All it took is for me to scan my Advantage Card once and it has saved that for all of my trips. Connecting to the in store WiFi is easy and does not seem to pose a security threat to me because all you are passing to and from the network are barcodes and produce weights. Your credit card is still processed at the checkout terminal after you have scanned the terminal barcode and your phone uploads your items to the system and closes the app out. I have also never waited in line to use the checkout lane. This may be because there are 2 terminals in the store I shop at but I also think it is because the checkout process is so fast. I also love how I can bag my items the way I want them bagged in the store. I also love using my phone instead of the store provided scanners because I am kinda a germaphobe and like using my phone instead (mostly because other people don’t touch it). Overall, I love the app and the freedom it provides me. If I could give it 6 stars I would. ### 5/5 — Great! *2018-11-18, version 1.2* We scan while shopping and skip the big line! So quick! Only issue I have is sometimes spotty Wi-Fi. *2025-04-24, version 1.4* I quite enjoy the service and the app. For those folks who have complained that there’s only one or two scan and pay registers you can use it at any register. They all have the barcode you can scan so you don’t need to just single out one register. As far as waiting in line in the self service checkout, I don’t. Nobody in front of me can even use those registers since they’re all waiting to self scan their items so I just walk past them and go straight to the scan and pay registers. I’ve only ever had one person say anything to me. Simply responded. Are you able to use this register? He said no, and I said so how does it make a difference? The only issue I have with it is sometimes Wi-Fi drops out at certain locations in a store and I lose the order. But this also happens with the scanners they provide so it’s not likely an issue with the app. ### 4/5 — Mostly excellent! *2023-04-09, version 1.4* Saves me so much time especially on Fridays and stuff when it’s super busy since almost no one uses it. Only problem I ran into recently is it kept telling me WiFi wasn’t connected when it was.
