Not sure if it’s my local giant stores having problems or if they discontinued it? The last time I used it I had to close and reopen the app 9 times. And I thought the app needed updating. Nope, they haven’t updated it in more than a year. However, recently it’s become more of a hassle. Most recently during my shopping trip the app shuts down and I need to resume my trip. However after resuming my trip the app shuts off after each item scanned. It’s been weeks since I’ve been able to use it. No one in the store can give me any assistance…just “sorry, we’ll report it”. Even the store’s scan guns don’t work! Very frustrating. Retains the shopping cart and checks out OK, but must be relaunched every few seconds. ### 3/5 — App works but is hit or miss *2023-06-05* When it works, it’s great but at Giant stores, even when Wi-Fi is present and the phone connected, you’ll get the “please connect to Wi-Fi message” Also, since using on the iPhone 14 Pro, the scanners ability to focus and scan barcodes has been reduced, making it difficult to scan. It appears to be a problem with the app’s ability to use all three lenses correctly on the camera. It’s a fight to get it to scan most items and the app is also constantly hunting for the correct exposure, often blowing out the image completely in an attempt to adjust the light correctly. ### 1/5 — Why *2023-05-13, version 23.10.10* This app is almost as bad as their main one. The coupons never align with the clipper and if you are not signed in, find a coupon and sign in, the coupon you wanted disappears. How do you have a coupon disappear after you sign in? When I want to scan again it takes 15 seconds and two button presses to be able to scan. Two different store and two different phones both said to see customer service and they have no idea why or what to do. ### 1/5 — Does not work *2024-12-18, version 24.105.117* When the handheld devices at Giant did not work, I downloaded the app so I could still use scan it. The app did not recognize my card number so I went to customer service to verify that my card number was valid. It was. But the app did not recognize it. Customer service told me they had had a great many complaints about the scan it app, as well as the scan it handhelds. I love the ability to pre-scan my products and check out fast. It is the primary reason why I go to Giant instead of other grocery stores. Now neither the handheld nor the apps work. You need to fix this or you’re gonna be losing losing customers, including this one. ### 1/5 — Used to be great, no longer supported. *2024-10-29, version 24.105.117* I was very happy when Giant first launched this. It made it so much easier to scan using my phone, versus getting the wand to scan. The app has now gone to the wayside. After talking with store employees at Enola, Elizabethtown, Linglestown, Union Deposit, and Selingsgrove. The company doesn’t want to fix the problems with the app, the store’s connections, etc, citing costs. It’s time to delete the app and cut back on shopping at Giant. They were ahead of many other stores, especially Walmart!!!! The only saving grace is the few quality employees in some of the locations that still care about the customers. ### 1/5 — Really wish it worked *2023-11-04, version 23.30.00* I hate using online grocery pickup. I would much rather shop in store. I would also like to not have to interact with a person more than I need to. And I like keeping track of how much I spend when I shop. This app would be great for that, if it worked. The app is routinely broken. I’ve used it for a year now and when it works it’s great, I can coupon at home and then scan as I shop. But it works so rarely it’s not even worth it anymore. Currently the app is shutting down while fetching coupons. Though I always wished they would combine it with the Giant app so you could redeem points, make your list and check it off as you scan in store all in one app. About a month or 2 ago, the app started crashing EVERY time I scan and I have to resume the current shop! For the most part it works great. Easy to scan products and to price check. It works fine at the Giant Store in Mount Joy Pennsylvania as well as Elizabethtown. in Mount Joy they have more checkouts to use But stock better in Elizabethtown. Just scan the barcode and enter your payment method at check out. The automated lady‘s voice keeps telling you if you use the scan it app Scan the barcode in the app. Watch out for occasional audits that occur. This has caused some waiting around for an employee to scan check some of your items to verify it has been scanned with scan it. They gave me a $10 gift certificate when it took longer than 20 minutes and I complained. No one in the store knew how to audit. It is a good idea you learn how to do it so you can tell the employee what must be done. There is a lot of turnover so be patient. also remember you must be on the GIANT Wi-Fi as well. Go in and check your phones options under Wi-Fi. Also there is a scan it wallet Which you really don’t need to have to use this app. I just signed up for a scan it wallet account and I will see if that makes any difference… stay tuned. ….. also the giant food store app is not incorporated with the scan it app. Just go in and clip your coupons and whatever else before you use the Scanner app. it will show up when you check out. I see the Google app has the same amount of bad reviews as the iPhone app. if you follow all the steps I’ve listed it should work fine for you. Each store may have its own individual problems to deal with. Ask the customer service desk/helpdesk. also remember do not scan your GIANT card at all while using the Scan it app. I tried to cover everybody’s comments for both android and iPhone reviews. Boy people complain too much and probably don’t understand the app. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here. I guess some of the stores don’t have it up and running or people really don’t know how to use it. Go to the helpdesk and ask for help if you don’t know how to use scan it. Once you learn it’s a breeze. And no I’m not an employee. I walk and drive to the Mount Joy store 2 to 3 times a week. As of September 15, 2022 it is working fine in our area. so stop complaining and sit down and figure out how to use it. Take the time to talk with the customer service desk or ask for a manager. Come on people this thing works so use it, or if it doesn’t,,,,talk with the store manager and try to get it up and running, but remember to be nice, that’s what I said be nice, people are more willing to help you when you are nice. You MUST stop by the customer service desk to finish setting up your GIANT card for SCAN IT MOBILE. Or it will not work. Don’t be afraid 😱 of them. Also it says you can scan and bag as you walk the store. I just wait and bag it up front which is more convenient at the Mount JOY STORE because they have a newer store with conveyor belt check out and not just the small cubical scan it check out. Lastly when you check out you just scan the bar code in scan it and the total will then show on the check out screen and you enter the payment method. That is all folks. Scan as you go and the order comes up on the register from scanning the bar code on your app and you’re ready to go. I’ve used this app a few times for larger orders at my store and have never had an issue using it. ### 5/5 — Grocery Shopping Made Easy *2020-04-25, version 19.30.00* I was wary of this app because of the low rating but decided to test it out anyway since it seemed like a lot of the negative reviews were old or individual store specific and I’m SO glad I did. I had zero issues with the app. The scanner picked up barcodes quickly every time. It was so nice to be able to track my total and bag as I went. My store doesn’t allow the option to pay in app yet, but even without that this app expedited my shopping trip. No unloading the cart on the belt and no reloading into bags, which is especially nice now with the need to limit touching things in shared spaces. Even the self checkout monitor commented on how easy my checkout process seemed to be! It ONlY works when you are logged into the Giant store free WiFi system. If your card doesn’t link- go to customer service. This is perfect if I want to run in and grab a couple things in a hurry, as it saves the step of stopping at the kiosk at the front door (not to mention going to the one by the OTHER doors if the one where I came in is empty). The swipe to delete an item is nice, but I would also like to have the option to scan something to remove it, as you can on the store scanners. This would be useful when you have multiple flavors of an item and you're not sure which is the correct entry to delete. Also, this is not really a problem with the app itself, but it's somewhat of a nuisance that there are two wifi networks in the store - the "Scanit Mobile" network for scanning, which has no Internet access, and the "Giant" network for public Internet access.
