## What is Gift Nester?

Gift Nester keeps every thoughtful idea connected to the person, occasion, budget, and deadline it belongs to.

Plan recurring birthdays, anniversaries, and custom occasions with practical lead times. Save recipient profiles with sizes, likes, dislikes, and things they already own. Track each gift from idea to purchased, wrapped, and gifted while keeping planned spending against per-person budgets.

When it is time to shop, open Shopping Run for one live list grouped by recipient. See open gifts, due dates, lifecycle status, planned totals, and budget progress, then share a readable run sheet or CSV. Gift history helps prevent accidental repeats, while spending insights summarize completed gifts by year and recipient.

Gift Nester also includes an idea stash, searchable gift library, occasion guides, planning tools, and local backup and restore.

Your records stay on your device. Gift Nester requires no account, includes no ads or analytics, and has no subscription. It does not sell products, process payments, use affiliate links, or upload your gift records.

Gift Nester now opens to a cleaner five-destination workspace built around Today, Gifts, People, Occasions, and More. The new Shopping Run groups open gifts by recipient, shows planned totals and budget progress, supports one-tap lifecycle updates, and shares a readable run sheet or CSV. This release also improves first-launch clarity, recipient planning, privacy and backup details, and iPad navigation while preserving existing GiftNest records.

Headline

Gift Nester now remembers the *dates* and the *details*, not just the gifts. Add a
person's birthday or anniversary once and the new Occasions tab counts it down every
year and tells you exactly when to start shopping. Save each person's sizes, likes,
and things to avoid so you never buy the wrong size or a known no-go again. All
offline, no account, one price.

App Store "What's New" text (release notes)

Version 1.2 adds the two things gift-givers ask for most - and keeps everything
fully offline:

NEW - Recurring occasions & countdowns
- Add a birthday, anniversary, or custom date once; it repeats every year.
- The new Occasions tab counts every date down and flags "Start now" when you're
  inside the recommended planning window for that occasion.
- A "Time to shop" nudge on the Today tab shows dates that need a gift, with one-tap
  "Plan" that pre-fills the recipient and due date.

NEW - Recipient gift profiles
- Save each person's sizes (shirt, shoe, ring, anything), what they love, and what to
  avoid (allergies, dislikes, already-owns).
- Their sizes and "avoid" notes now appear right on the add-gift form and on the
  shopping run sheet, so the facts are with you at the store.

NEW - US / UK / EU size quick-reference
- A bundled, cited conversion table for women's and men's tops and shoes, in the
  Toolkit tab - handy when someone only knows their size in one system.

Plus: the run-sheet export now includes each person's upcoming date, sizes, and
avoid notes; the smart brief leads with your next occasion.

Engineering changelog

- New models: `RecipientOccasion`/`OccasionKind` (yearly-repeating month+day),
  `UpcomingOccasion`/`ShoppingUrgency` (resolved countdown + start-shopping status),
  `OccasionMath` (leap-year-safe next-occurrence + day-clamp + day-diff),
  `OccasionPlanner` (sorting, lead-time lookup against the bundled OccasionLibrary,
  actionable nudges), `GiftProfile`/`SizeEntry` (sizes/likes/avoid/notes),
  `SizeReference` (cited US/UK/EU conversion tables).
- `WorkStore`: new `@Published` `occasions` and `profiles` with backward-compatible,
  separately-keyed UserDefaults persistence (existing items/budgets untouched; an
  emptied occasion list is respected and not re-seeded). New CRUD + accessors.
- UI: new Occasions tab (countdown list, add/edit sheet), recipient detail gains
  Occasions + Gift Profile sections, add/edit-gift form shows a profile hint banner,
  Today tab gains a "Time to shop" nudge, Toolkit gains the size reference.
- Exports: run sheet now carries upcoming dates, sizes, and avoid notes per person.
- Tests: 40+ new deterministic XCTest cases (new `GiftNestTests` target) covering
  occasion math, leap years, urgency thresholds, planner sorting/actionable logic,
  profile content rules, store CRUD + persistence, legacy-decode compatibility, and
  export content. All passing.
- Version bumped to 1.2 (5) in project.yml; Info.plist already uses build settings.

Honesty notes

- Spend bands / lead times: general etiquette guidance (Emily Post / NRF-style),
  cited in-app - planning rules of thumb, not prices or recommendations.
- Size conversions: the widely-published standard US/UK/EU equivalences, cited
  in-app and clearly labeled approximate (brands, especially EU, vary).
- Still no ecommerce, affiliate links, payments, network, or tracking.
