The app itself could not be more user friendly and easy to use. Everything is clearly labeled and self explanatory. Each time I upload a photo onto the app of the food I’m eating at a GiftAMeal partner restaurant, a meal is donated locally to someone in need. This allows me to dine at restaurants that care about the community and are seeking to make a positive, social impact. It really is a “win-win” - I get to take pictures of the food I love, while at the same time giving back to those around me. The app is also particularly helpful when choosing where to eat given it allows you to search by location, cuisine, or even amenities available. I mean, we already take pics of food before eating it to put on Snapchat or Insta so why not do it on gift a meal and help feed people?!! ### 5/5 — Won’t work! *2020-10-31, version 7.0.6* ***UPDATE*** I heard for the app developers very quickly about my issue. Within one week, I have now heard from them again with the good news that they have fixed their issue (I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet). WOW! With attention to customers like this, I am convinced they have done what they said. BTW — they donated three meals since I was unable to use the app. The app shows where I am currently dining, but GPS keeps timing out. I tried to take a picture of my plate, but it never goes to the camera. While I love volunteering, work makes it very hard to find time. With GiftAMeal, I have been able to help support food banks and shelters in my neighborhood give to those in need by simply checking into restaurants on my lunch breaks. I haven’t experienced any major bugs or issues since downloading the app. Also, I reached out with a couple questions and the team got back to me really quickly. It seems like they really care about their social mission. I would encourage everyone to download and start giving back. So I decided to check out the app and was really impressed that it only took like 10 seconds to donate a meal. What an ingenious way to try to fight hunger. I saw that there were a bunch of my favorite restaurants on the app as well so I will definitely be using GiftAMeal the next time I go! ### 5/5 — They’re gifting meals all over the place! *2019-02-14, version 5.3* I love using GiftAMeal to give back when I’m going out to eat anyway! My favorite spots to use it are Gioia’s, Three Kings, and Fort Taco. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This seems like a cheap fad; buggy app *2019-02-10, version 5.3* First, the app is really buggy. It crashes pretty frequently. While the GUI is decent, this is a for-profit company trying to solve a non-profit problem. Not too many restaurants are using this, even in St. Louis, and for a good reason: put your phone away at the table and enjoy the meal. I don’t think this will catch on as a social media craze. This is, at best, a fad that will be tried a few times and put away. Donate to your local homeless shelter or help serve food at the food pantry. **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. We are proud to be a for-profit social venture that believes profit and purpose are not inconsistent goals. Donating to a local homeless shelter and serving food at a pantry are both amazing things to do -- our team volunteers as well. GiftAMeal is by no means the only way to make an impact, but we have been able to donate tens of thousands of dollars already to feed the hungry in our community. Thought it was a great idea. Have not been able to use it since. We go out to eat a lot where we live and we live in a metropolitan area (not in some Podunk place) but there are no subscribers. I have just downloaded and installed the app, so haven’t used it yet, so can’t comment on how it works yet, but should be OK. Only one gripe so far… the only ways to “Invite A Restaurant” are to “Message on Instagram” or “Post on Twitter”. What if I’m not on either of those? As soon as you add a Facebook option, I’ll update to 5 stars. All I have to do is take a photo of my food, post it on the app, and it donates a meal to a food bank! I always take photos of my food but now I can also help someone in need instead of those photos just sitting in my camera roll. There are also so many restaurants on the app which is perfect to cover everyone’s different tastes. It costs me no money at all which is even better!!! It is so simple to use!
