## What is GIFwrapped?

Collect your GIFs. Share them. Love them! If you're a GIF connoisseur, you need an app that's as serious about them as you are. That's where GIFwrapped comes in.

• Use iCloud or Dropbox to add new GIFs and sync your collection. Keep your GIFs on multiple devices and have a backup in the cloud. The digital cloud. No one keeps GIFs in real clouds anymore — everything gets too wet.
• Use the bundled Messages app to share GIFs from your Library with your friends in seconds. No muss, no fuss.
• Find new GIFs using Klipy-powered search (of Giphy, if that's more your jam)! Just whack in a phrase like "cat" or "lumpy space princess" and be prepared for pure awesome to rain down on you from the heavens.
• Import GIFs, Bursts, and Live Photos from your Photo Library. Save them back to Photos, too, if that's your jam.
• Use an extension to quickly save images to your Library! It's super easy, and probably fun by someone's standards!
• Preview GIFs in standard or retina quality. It all depends on whether you like pixels or not.

Upgrade your GIF game even further by subscribing to GIFwrapped Premium for US$9.99 per year (may vary from country to country), which unlocks awesome features, removes ads, and supports an independent creator.

• Turn off ads. I hate 'em as much as you do, but a guy's gotta eat.
• Bookmark searches for easy access the next time you want them. These things are important for those GIF standoffs you're somehow always getting into.
• Reuse (and recycle!) your search history as a list of bookmarks, so revisiting the past doesn't need to involve time travel… or memory.
• See additional information about images in the Info panel, including frame count, duration, and more. That way you can know your GIFs inside and out.
• Turn off the embedded watermark in Bursts and Live Photos. I mean, liking GIFwrapped is one thing, but plastering the logo over GIFs of your pets? Probably a bit much.

If you choose to subscribe to GIFwrapped Premium, payment will be charged to your iTunes account, and the subscription will automatically renew within 24 hours of the end of the current period. You can manage this in Account Settings. Cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to let it lapse.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.4 — 2026-08-14

Okay, so it's here. GIFwrapped has (finally) been updated with Liquid Glass, and let me tell you… it's been A JOURNEY.

- Liquid Glass. Hope you like it. I tried very hard to make it not garbage.

- An all-new search sheet. Does it work the same? Yes. Is it the same? No. Was it the reason this update took almost a year? YES. Did I have to build it from scratch because the one in Apple's frameworks was too limiting for what I needed? UGH. YES.

- For some reason, iOS 26 introduced a weird bug that caused the library's toolbar buttons to not appear on launch. Worse, I couldn't reliably reproduce it with any kind of debugging attached. Nevertheless, I managed to come up with a fix, so… you're welcome.

- Don't tell anyone, but I snuck in an update to the in-app icons in a few places, dynamically rounding their corners to match the system icon radius. It's the little things.

- I love a typographic apostrophe as much as the next person, but I'll be honest: my usage throughout GIFwrapped has been a little… haphazard. Once it was pointed out to me, I couldn't let it stand. Here's hoping I got 'em all.

- I took a hammer to a couple of potential causes of crashes and hangs. Absolutely no idea if I actually resolved them, but if you were experiencing them and aren't anymore… you're welcome, I guess?

These release notes don't truly communicate the amount of energy poured into GIFwrapped over the last few months. If you like it, it'd be lovely to get an email saying so! Or if you need assistance, I guess. Toss one at support@gifwrapped.co and I'll do my best to respond!

Thank you all for enjoying GIFwrapped, and a double thank you to those who support the app with a GIFwrapped Premium sub. I wouldn't still be doing this if it weren't for all of you.

Until next time, remember: on Wednesdays, we wear pink.

### 2026.3 — 2026-06-30

Hello, everyone!

Work continues on the Liquid Glass design, but Tenor’s API is going away at the end of the month, and so it is sadly time to remove the engine.

Since it was the default engine, this means updating that too, so Klipy has officially become the default. It does feel quite empty in that list, though, so I might need to figure out some new alternatives down the line.

Plus a couple of bonus fixes:

• For whatever reason, the section headers in the About screen were a bit screwy, and one would randomly show at the bottom of the screen. A couple of people pointed it out recently, and it was an easy peasy thing to fix, so I jumped in and just did it.

• The icon selection screen has been a little bit eager during scrolling for a while, if you happened to drag while touching an icon, it’d end up selecting that icon. Turns out the trick was to fix the gesture handling so it’d link up when being added to the window, and not just the parent view. Who knew?

And that's literally it. This update is all about quality, and definitely not quantity. Or maybe a good time, not a long time. Whatever the case, if you need support, toss an email towards support@gifwrapped.co and I'll do my dangedest to sort things out.

Until next time, remember: it's always OK to be who you are.

### 2026.2 — 2026-03-23

Hello and welcome one and all to the second GIFwrapped release of 2026. It looks the same, but there's actually a bunch of cool stuff in this one, some of which you will hopefully never notice.

• The Library's sorting feature got some love in this release, adding not just one, but two sweet new options. For starters, you can now sort by file size, but to make it even better, you can now reverse the sort order for whatever option you select. These were both requests from folks, and I figured, "Heck, if I can do one thing with sorting, I can do two." Just don't ask me to do three. Three is too much.

• There have always been some weird inconsistencies in the image preview screen. Somehow, I've never been able to get the layout code exactly right for all the various permutations… until now. The latest version feels so good, you're gonna be scrolling in and out of the info panel on iPhone until you have sore thumbs.

• I may have accidentally broken the Premium-only Search History list in Settings at some point, possibly because I was doing some untoward stuff to handle navigation and some version of iOS busted it. So it got a fashionable new rebuild (there's a bit of this going around in this release), and it's much much better.

• The User Guide has been showing its age for a while, and especially given that I'm in the process of nice-ifying the app for an eventual liquid glass reskin. So I replaced the guide's UI with a much better, more modern version.

It may not seem like much, but some of this stuff has been on my todo list for a LONG time, so it feels good to get these improvements out there. If you have any requests, problems, or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to support@gifwrapped.co and I'll see what I can do.

Until next time, remember: the man in the cupboard wears twice the hats.

### 2026.1 — 2026-01-21

G'day! Hello! Good Morning!

Welcome to 2026, ostensibly a year that is at least numerically greater than 2025. Let's start it off with a sweet little GIFwrapped update, shall we?

It's worth noting that fortunately/unfortunately, depending on how you see it, this release doesn't have "Liquid Glass" just yet. Trust me when I say I'm working on it, and I'll do my best to make it as nice as I can.

• A lot of people have noticed the missing navigation buttons on the main screen, which has been making it harder to get into the settings screen. This was a bug introduced by the latest OS release, and I had to do a little juggling to get them to show up properly.

• With Tenor pulling a Twitter and discontinuing its public API later this year, I'm on the look out for something to fill the gap. Its death would've meant that Giphy would've been the only engine supported, but then I was informed of the existence of Klipy, and so I quickly spun up support for it. You can select it as your default in the Search settings screen. You're welcome.

• Sometimes when looking at a GIF, you just want to be able to pause and appreciate each frame, and while you've been able to scrub through (as a Premium subscriber) with the playhead for a while now, I wanted to make it easier to do so from the comfort of a keyboard. As such, I've added , and . shortcuts that allow frame stepping, similar to YouTube or QuickTime.

• A few months back, I got an email asking me to add the ability to get GIFs from Yarn, and given that it was actually not too difficult to do, I went ahead and tossed in a basic handler. It's given me some ideas to potentially improve the basic web parsing too, but that'll have to wait for another day. You get what you get.

• It seems like Dropbox sneakily changed it's API again (it has been a while, to be fair), this time changing one of the endpoints used for signing in, which meant you could sign into Dropbox from GIFwrapped. I've updated that, so it's working again. Sorry to those who were quietly suffering with this one.

• While I was in the Import menu, replacing icons with SF Symbols and doing a little cleanup, I took the time to dig further into the File Sharing screen which I uplifted to SwiftUI a while ago. This time I made it use Structured Concurrency (effectively nerd talk for stopping it from causing the app to freeze) and also get thumbnails from Quick Look. With that and a couple other small niceties, the least used screen in all GIFwrapped is now also possibly the nicest. Go figure.

• GfyCat died a while ago, and it's taken me a bunch of time to finally remove it from the list of search engines. RIP GfyCat. I wanted to like you so much, but you were probably the least supported API I've ever used.

That's it, I hope you enjoy this update! If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to toss an email my way, via support@gifwrapped.app, and I'll see if I can help you out.

Until next time, don't forget to brush your teeth twice a day. Happy 2026!

### 2025.2 — 2025-04-27

Hey everyone, this update is small but mighty.

Despite attempts at resolving the longtime paging issue where selecting one GIF displays another, the problem still managed to persist. So in an effort to track it down once and for all, I dug deeper… all the way into the custom paging view I'd built to discover some layout timing issues.

And so, this update rights this particular wrong, and hopefully puts an end to this saga. But if not, please hit me up with an email to support@gifwrapped.co, where you'll find me desperately trying to take a nap.

Until next time, remember: you look nice today.
