### 2/5 — App crashes every time I try to end the rental

*2023-12-04*

Every time I try to end the rental be it the “pay as you go” or “pay for the day” the app has trouble with ending my rental. I would have an email confirming my rental has ended but the app will still count my time with the car and stay on the screen with the now “no longer needed” rental. I have contacted customer support before but their advice is to just delete the app and reinstall it. Which is a bit like have you tried turning it off and turning it back on.

Additionally, their cars are not as well serviced as advertised. Admittedly you would hope also that people renting the car would have the common decency to clean after themselves or at least air out the car.

### 2/5 — So crazy expensive.

*2023-09-24*

I’ve been carless in Seattle since 2007. I’ve tried everything from flex car, zip car, car2go, the bmw one….I’ve literally tried them all. Today I needed to do about an hour trip to run some errands so I figured I’d use gig for the first time. I drove for and hour and 20 minutes including parking and my charge was almost $45. This is the most expensive hour trip I’ve taken with one of these services. Call it inflation, I call it a rip off. Not sure how they charge for day/8 hour fees, but I’m unlikely to use the service again at this point.

As far as the actual service—the car was easy to unlock and lock, it was pretty zippy, and the app was easy to navigate. But all that doesn’t negate my feelings re: the cost.

### 2/5 — app is virtually unusable

*2023-08-12*

I like the gig service itself within cell service, and use it quite often.

If I do not review a car before leaving the app, the next time I enter, I’m forced to restart the app several times before it gets past the loading screen. an opaque white screen with a loading bar also sometimes hangs over while i have a car reserved, which does not prevent me from renting, but is annoying. The map seems like it’s trying to load too much data at once, and could instead load more than a 15 min walking radius if the user tries to pan out, due to its slowness at the beginning. I’m not sure if I would keep this app/keep using gig if the service itself wasn’t so convenient.

### 2/5 — Service 👍🏽 • Support 👎🏽

*2023-05-09*

It’s a great service. Cars are pretty competitive pricing-wise and the cars themselves are fun to drive.

Support infrastructure-wise, it’s the Wild, Wild West out here. If you forget your belongings in your car, and the next user takes it - and they know exactly who it was, they won’t do anything about it because it’s “discriminatory.” Yes, this really happened to me. Someone rented a car sandwiched between two of my rentals. They smoked in the car, got mud all over the interior, left their trash, and took my backpack - which contained a pair of earphones from my gf for Xmas. The backpack was a gift from my best friend 😂. And yeah, the support I got was “We’ll keep an eye out and leave a voicemail to the person who used the car after you, but we can’t take any other actions. Even though it’s highly likely that it’s them.” Pretty sad.

Also, the app glitches a lot. If you parked somewhere kinda sketchy, make sure you force close the app and open it again at a safe place and have it ready to unlock the car. Otherwise you might be fumbling to get the car unlocked while you’re in an unsafe location.

### 2/5 — Crashes every time

*2022-11-23, version 6.4.0*

I wish I could use Gig. Unfortunately, the app crashes each and every time I use it. Starting a ride? I need to restart the app. Locking a car? I need to restart the app.

Not to mention that the last two times I’ve used it, I find out at my destination that I am outside the zone while still in Seattle city limits!!! Could we have a Google Maps connection so we can see if the place we are driving is in zone?

Lastly, customer service is horrible. Rude, actively unhelpful, and rude (saying that again). One time I called because I couldn’t figure out how to unlock the car (early in my usage). The person said that I would have to get a tow rather than just explaining to me how the app works (hint: you have to hit “unlock” even if the car is unlocked and you are inside and just want to start the car).

If there was any other service I would use it. I can’t afford to buy a car and I can’t take public transit, so I am forced to deal with this app.

### 2/5 — Love the idea of Gig but awful refueling experience

*2022-09-16, version 6.1.0*

Absolutely worst experience, barely any cars in the area ( Bernal Heights in San Francisco), only 2 about 20 minutes walk with almost zero fuel.
(After my experience today I see why that is.)

On the way back from dropping my friend off, I tried refueling. The pump asked me for driver ID, looked around the app no ID me mentioned and no instructions of how to refuel. Ended up having to go to the cashier, they had no idea, ended up calling the line and eventually getting through to an agent, she tells me I have to call every time I refuel, good thing I had signal at least. After all that I eventually managed to refuel after wasting over 15 minutes that I apparently have to pay for… utter madness!!

### 2/5 — International License Beware

*2022-03-23, version 5.6.0*

I use these services to fill the gap when public transport is either nonexistent or incredibly inconvenient.

The advertised 24 hour license reviews are simply nonexistent for international drivers license holders and the process to get this done is very clunky. The FAQ claims that there are additional documentation needed during signup, but there is nowhere to upload this so you’re expected to email these documents to them after the review is unsuccessful. I was told differently about the validity duration of the necessary driving report from the FAQs, the chat support, the phone support, in an email, and in a PDF attached to the same email.

If you were clear about the timing, required documents, and allowed the uploading of these documents during signup, I could have started this process before it was needed, I wouldn’t have wasted anybody’s time, and you would have actually made another customer.

Hopefully MILES or ShareNow can make it to the Bay Area; their signup on international licenses is smooth.

### 4/5 — Glitchy - support helpful - cars filthy

*2022-03-14*

Used the service for the first time in Seattle and had several challenges with my first couple of rentals but had great customer service (until calling late night which was unanswered). The app does not connect to the cars via Bluetooth well and unlocking/locking is very hit or miss. Support even acknowledged this is an ongoing issue lots of people face. The cars I rented were absolutely filthy. I can not imagine that they’re being cleaned anywhere as frequently as they’re claiming to. One had dust accumulated like my own car at home which is in great need of a detailing. I found a used mask in another which was disgusting - though support gave me a credit right away for my first ride which helped.

I do really love the flexibility of parking anywhere in the blue zone rather than needing to return to the exact same spot like competing rentals. I’m a little anxious about knowing parking rules in the city and hidden costs as people have noted here. Fingers crossed.

All in all I’ve been talking to people non stop about how useful the concept is for traveling and I do think that with some updates to the app functionality and better cleaning it could be top notch!

### 4/5 — Mostly convenient

*2022-03-09, version 5.6.0*

GIG is a great concept: get a car when you need one, keep it as long as you need it, and drop it in any GIG “home zone” when you’re finished. I like the open ended rental and the flexibility of dropping the car in a location that is different from where I picked it up.

I subtracted one star for location. It would be helpful to have more expansive home zones (anything in Russian Hill?). Some of the more convenient home zones have disappeared lately (e.g., Mission & Cesar Chavez).

### 3/5 — Great car (CarPlay supported) and not so great fuel experience

*2021-12-16, version 5.3.2*

The Prius gig in Seattle is nice and has nice features (blind side monitoring and CarPlay support). Plus Gig charged me the best rate based on my trips duration, and deserves at least 3 stars.

Two stars off for fuel related concerns:
-Gig users within 5 minutes of where I live leave fuel at 1%. I think this is unacceptable and though it’s not Gigs fault.
-proposal: I hope Gig makes it mandatory for the car to be fueled at least 10% before a trip ends
- fueling with the Gig fuel card (not available in all Gig cars and separate from your free Gig card) is an okay experience and you do have to call to get a Drivers ID (not sure if this ID is permanent or just for a trip) which you’ll need to use the Gig fuel card. The Gig fuel card did not work at the cashiers and did work at the machines at the fuel pump.
-im sure Gig has a reason for giving out Drivers ID over the phone (again not sure if they are permanent), and yet getting the number over the phone seems backwards given that I need a dedicated Gig app.

### 1/5 — FLAT TIRE FEE

*2021-10-09, version 5.3.2*

If you want to rent the car from GIG car share, get ready to pay a $1025 for the flat tire. They said it’s a damage fee. I’ve been renting a car for a whole week, it already had little damages all over the body of the car before I’ve rented the car, and I have never hit anything or ether scratch for the whole time I’ve rented the car. I had it for a week and one day I got a flat tire, they towed the car gave me the taxi and later said I owe the fee in amount of $1025 for FLAT TIRE. So disappointed, I guess they put all damages on me that this car had before I’ve rented the car. By the way, they do not have a spare wheel in the trunk, and you will not be able to change the tire by yourself

### 1/5 — bad app, bad service

*2021-09-16*

I used Car2Go frequently with almost no issues, and when they left Seattle I was offered a credit to join GIG, so I took a chance.

I have since renewed my license. I went to rent a car to drive to the airport and was told to call customer service. They said there was a 15 minute wait, but I stayed on the line for 45 minutes (the last half hour in an Uber) before giving up. I pressed 3 for a callback, which I never received.

Trying again today, I elected to txt support. This time I received a response in about 1/2 hour (including the time I had to wait for an initial reply and type in my question a second time). I was told I had to email pics of the front and back of the license, plus a selfie of me holding it. Then they would proceed with my “registration”. Is this a joke? The app can not longer scan my docs, so I have to send via insecure email? You don’t know from my phone number that I already have an account?

Looking at the available cars near me, most are very low on gas, and based on the reviews here saying how you’ll never get reimbursed if you fill up (and you get charged rental fees while doing so), I think I’ll pass. I don’t want to have to try to deal with this app or support team to get my money back.

### 1/5 — Don’t Use a Debit Card!

*2021-08-25, version 5.1.0*

Note in the fee schedule where it says “other charges” because they mean unlimited dollars for whatever. In my case a $175 “handling fee.” You should definitely be very very worried about the battery running out on you. They make it seem like it’s no big deal and they will come get you but it’s gonna cost. In my case a total of $500 was debited without any notice from my account. There are also a lot of weird tickey-tack authorizations they put thru and you have to watch those because they don’t all fall off and the only way to get them fixed is by calling. Having this all happen in a checking account is a nightmare. Use a credit card.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — worst ever

*2024-08-21*

cars were always filthy and requiring maintenance. sometimes the lot was jammed full & could not access reserved vehicle. they tell you that metered parking in SF, CA is free or already paid. not true. also, if you get a parking ticket, they send you a bill for it with a hefty fee tacked on. THEN they bill you a fine of $175 on top of that for “unauthorized parking.” apparently it is very easy for thieves to break into and steal these cars. one of my rentals was stolen from in front of my building. i tracked it down parked behind a locked gate several blocks away, and immediately reported the theft. what did they do? put my account on hold while they “investigated.” i gave up trying to rent from them after a few weeks of this. next thing i notice they’re trying to bill me another $350 for “unauthorized driver.” and “unauthorized parking.” that would be whoever stole the car and parked it in a locked parking lot. unbelievable. fortunately i had the foresight to block charges to my card from these racketeers. good luck getting another dime outta me, PIG, RIG, JIG, WIG or whatever your fictitious name is.

### 1/5 — If I could leave -5 stars I would!!!

*2024-01-21*

What happened was the worst customer service I have ever experienced, and your team should be ashamed your “help bot” is worse than Siri in Beta mode. Your bot says 2 things: Here’s an article! And “can you rephrase your question?”
I live in LA, which your team knew when I entered my addess during signup. But of course that didn’t stop you from pulling $40 from my account and giving me a credit for a service I can’t even use. And then I get the runaround from Siri’s less intelligent nephew bot. I gotta hand it to you…. It’s a great way to make quick cash when you’re still growing. But until I get my $$$ back and compensation for my time, this review will stay posted. If I can get one customer to run the other way, I’ve done my job. But we all know this review will lose way more customers than that. Make it right! Thank you. -Timothy Dove

### 1/5 — Complete scam, benefit on fraudulent charges

*2024-01-01*

I received a $1000 charge from gig accusing me to cause “scratches” to the car 10 days after a 10min trip. I have been using gig quite a bit lately so I didn’t remember to take videos of the car every time. But I’m sure that I didn’t get into any collision. I parked the car and ended the trip late at night and they said the person rented the car the NEXT MORNING reported scratches. 1) how can they prove that the damage is made by me but not anyone overnight, or worse, the second renter? So basically I’m not only responsible for the car’s condition during the 10min I’m using it but also until the next renter starter another trip???
2) what sort of scratches would cost $1000 dollars to repair?? I asked for photo proofs but they cannot offer those either, so it seems they just randomly charges customers of thousands of dollars and profit from them?

### 1/5 — A great company that has become greedy with the amount they charge.

*2023-10-16*

I’ve been using Gig car for 2 years now in Seattle. It clearly beat out its competitors with the convenience of being able to pick them up from anywhere across the city and drop them off anywhere within the blue zone. The prices for both short term and long term drives were incredibly well priced and an easy choice over any other rental companies, especially with the inclusion of gas, and insurance.

Recently however, their prices and fees have fallen dramatically behind their competitors. They no longer offer the ability to book a multi day trip for a flat fee which means instead of looking at gig cars my friends and I have booked cars through Zip car and Turo instead.
An 8 hour flat fee through gig car is about $107 with fees and zip car is $79 total.

My reason for writing this review is because of my most recent experience with them. I took a $17 ride from a friends house late at night. I parked infront of my apartment and was a foot too close to a fire hydrant. That $17 ride became a $361 one because I was charged $201 for a technician to come out and get the car and $146 for parking in an unauthorized place. I know I’m in the wrong. But it’s upsetting to be charged massive amounts that I can’t afford for a ticket that in Seattle would only cost $38. I will no longer be using this service and have advised all of the people I initially recommended it to to switch to their competitors.

### 1/5 — Good service, terrible app.

*2023-01-15, version 6.4.0*

The good old days of car2go are long gone, but Gig is here to fill the gap. And for rent-by-the-minute point to point automobiles, they get the job done. It’s no frills, the cars are often filthy and have maintenance warnings, but it works.

The app, however, is pretty terrible. It crashes at least once per rental, it fails to open without a hard restart, and doesn’t update maps in a reliable way.

One feature the old car2go app had that was great was an alert when a car became available in a definable radius. I sure miss that feature, but given how unreliable the rest of the app is, it’s probably too much to ask.

### 1/5 — Terrible Service, False Advertising, Rude Staff

*2022-10-09, version 6.1.0*

My friends and I used gig many times in the past and have come to realize that the company falsely represents itself. Most cars are broken when you open them, smell like cigarettes and have questionable things in them. They often have 1% of gas left in them requiring you to fill up the car yourself-it keeps charging you per minute when you fill up your gas. They suspended my account for no reason, and told me that they do not have to elaborate on the reasoning when I called. The customer service will just mansplain you and leave you feeling terrible. If you want to end up being charged double the amount you were expecting, take a gig car!

### 1/5 — Terrible insurance/accident service

*2022-05-02, version 5.6.0*

I was hit from behind, something that the other person immediately accepted fault for, in February and Gig has forced me to pay over $1,200 out of pocket with no indication when I will be reimbursed. There is no recourse to wait for the claim to be processed. I have been on the phone with them multiple times but their agents have no authority to discuss what decisions are being made or why. I recommend avoiding this service unless you have a lot of extra money lying around so you can pay their insurance bill in case something goes wrong. And they have the gall to advertise themselves as "insurance included." Insurance for them, not for customers. Customers apparently get to pay for everything regardless of fault.

### 1/5 — It’s a scamming app should be taken off the App Store

*2022-02-19, version 5.6.0*

I will be honest with you this is a scamming app from India i had this app for months it never let me reserve a car they charged my card and gave me this useless credits when I called customer service they said my account wasn’t approved by their background check which was “Checkr” I been verified by Checkr for Zipcar, Uber eats delivery and door dash so I’m conclusion this app is a scamming app I contacted customer support I talked to a agent that was reading from a script I asked for a supervisor and he told me that he himself was the senior agent of the support I don’t know how a senior agent can run a call center and still answer customer claims once again this is a scam don’t use the app go to Zipcar they are not a scamming app like this one

### 1/5 — Predatory Car Company..STAY AWAY

*2021-12-17*

Another predatory car “rental” company..claims to be a “car share” instead of a rental when involved in an accident, no matter the severity. Will take your payment, end your session early, and leave you and your family stranded roadside for “safety reasons”. They claim to provide auto insurance each session but good luck with reporting a claim..was told the policy number didn’t exist and that I’m the owner of the car. Not to mention the cars smell like feces, feet, and you may want to consider anti-fungal medicine for the ringworm that will be on your hand from gripping the nasty/filthy steering wheel. I also found a drug syringe and marijuana butts in the car even though it says no smoking. What a joke company. No customer service skills and they won’t care about you at all. Their goal is to stick enough people with $1K damage bills for any reason so that it’ll be easier for them to make income because the cars sit around low income communities and take up space everywhere, earning the reputation as a company who preys on poor, desperate people. I’ll keep my $75 a day from now on. Beware of this company: they will eventually whack you for $1000 and do not offer any kind of waivers/coverage before the trip starts. Get these scammers out of Sacramento. Avoid doing business with them.

### 1/5 — Predatory practices

*2021-12-06, version 5.3.2*

I have been a gig user for over a year and something that really sets poorly with me is the fact that the reminder system they have set up is terrible. They wait until the time hits large charge times then remind you that you had an ongoing rental even if the car has been sitting for hours. Given the nature of their app and how sometimes rentals don’t and when you press end this can happen and I have lost a significant some of money due to this and when talking to them they do not seem to care. Additionally the care for the cars is really lacking, most of these cars interiors are very dirty and disgusting and it seems like they do not have teams that come and clean these cars

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A huge headache, not worth the trouble.

*2023-06-29*

The experience was unfortunately quite poor. After attempting to get into the first car, I was told because I’d canceled it recently, I could not rent it for the next two hours. I had no idea about this restriction as I hadn’t intended to start the reservation previously, just check the prices. This was the only car within well over a mile, requiring me to spend valuable time and money securing a means of transit to the next closest car, which had only 8% fuel left, nowhere near enough for my trip. When attempting to refuel the car, the fuel card included (which was bent and barely scanned) asked me for a driver ID, which was nowhere to be found on the app or emails when I signed up, including on the FAQ section about filling up. This means I had to use my own card to pay for the fuel, essentially extending credit to Gig. Further, upon arriving at my destination well over an hour late due to these difficulties, I found myself with no cell signal, and with gig showing me a “no bluetooth” icon over the car, leading me to believe I would not be able to unlock it if I existed the car. What should’ve been an enjoyable trip down the coast turned into an huge headache because of these issues with the service.

### 5/5 — Gig CARES Share!!!

*2023-04-29*

Y’all need to change your name to GIG CARES, cuz ya really do care and I want to give back for the kind support that is so huge I can’t find the words to share there is no company that would ever CARE so let’s start a campaign from me in media career of 30 years, GiG Care Share Campaign…my idea to be on the road with y’all to highlight Lorena and other Rock Stars which are all on this team!!! I was trapped as I didn’t reserve my home return gig before another and yall really cared!! I had 50lbs of rented high end camera lights and other equipment and I tried to reimburse for the Lyft and you comes me. I have told everyone in your cities how special this company is, and I am beyond grateful, I had cash but my huge deposit on my camera equipment rental froze my card except for minimum and you can’t find any other company this understanding so do remember Gig Cares to Share.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support! We definitely do care about all our Members. If there is anything we can do to further improve the Gig experience, please feel free to reach out to us at membersupport@gigcarshare.com with your suggestions. Have a great day!

### 5/5 — Everything is perfect except one thing

*2022-09-22*

I love this service and it makes it so much easier to be independent from owning a car. The fuel and insurance included really makes it cheaper than renting cars these days. My only ask is that when you rent a car for a long time, it would be great if you could share the driving responsibility with someone else with the app. Some of my destinations have been 3 hrs away one way, but having to drive 6 hrs for a day trip when a rental car can be shared with all registered drivers makes this a harder sell for those trips. If they added that one thing, that would be perfect.

### 5/5 — Really good customer service! And convenient!

*2022-09-01, version 6.1.0*

The customer service is really good! If you have any problems using it, they’ll help you out. It’s quite convenient too.

Though I do wish they have more cars, larger service area and lower rates.

So far though, best car rental system I’ve used (prefer this a lot more than zipcar, especially in terms of customer service and convenience).

### 5/5 — Amazing service!

*2022-06-26, version 5.6.0*

Been using Gig for a few years and it has worked so well. Customer service is great and responsive and so helpful. The cars themselves are in good shape and it is so convenient. I just experienced my first fuel refund request and they confirmed it so fast. I am so grateful for this service and hope we can have more Gigs in SF and in this world. Car sharing like this is great for the environment and for our wallets (prefer over owning a car). Thanks so much Gig! Please keep it up.

### 5/5 — I retract my neg review from yesterday

*2022-04-04, version 5.6.0*

Shalee is the light of yesterdays darkness. She handled my issue with respect, intelligence, professionalism and with care for her company, value in its customers and a heart for humanity. She is an asset to gig-car and one that should exemplify how all the companies team players should be like. I will recommend and support this app and business because of her (Shalee) understanding that all business’s have their mistakes and liabilities (Chri (pronounced Kree)).

### 5/5 — Their customer service is absolutely horrible!

*2022-01-16*

It was an ok experience for me to use gig share till one of their vehicles dropped off of their grid after my trip. Because they couldn’t spot the car after I finished my trip, they blocked my account under the assumption that I parked it in a private lot, which I clearly had not. When they called me I gave them the location of the car accurate within 20 ft. They still did not get rid of the hold. When I called them about it, they asked me to send a picture of the location of the car. Even after sending them a picture of the car I had parked 10 days earlier, they did not unblock my account. They have terrible customer service and they just don’t care if their customers lose money and face problems and they don’t even put in the effort to be better.

### 5/5 — Just WOW!

*2021-07-23*

I had such a fantastic first experience with these guys that I felt I had to write a positive review as soon as I returned the car. Had no idea how it worked or what I was doing when I went to get the car. Rental cars in Seattle were almost $600 for a one and a half day rental (that was the cheapest price), and my experience with Turo was awful (and support is less than jon-existent) so I figured I’d try GIG. Now I wish it was in more places!

I can’t say enough good about my experience and the company. The car was great and reliable, everything went smoothly, and customer support was excellent (I called twice because I wasn’t sure about a couple of things). Support answers the phone almost instantly, you get someone who speaks and understands English, and most importantly they are trained, knowledgeable and helpful.

If you need a car for a short period or even a few days, I highly recommend GIG. I would use them again in a heartbeat. 🏆⭐️

### 5/5 — Great service, a few comments

*2021-04-12, version 4.6.0*

I tried Gig for the first time on a trip to Seattle. I have a few comments:

1) LOCATING VEHICLE - How about adding a FLASH feature to easily locate car.

I picked up my Gig at SEATAC around 9:30 pm. First it would have been nice to have more detailed instructions on how to find the cars. They are parked on the roof of a specific garage that you have to catch a shuttle to get to. Then finding the car in the dark based on spotty location data from my phone and checking license plates was a little challenging. It would be nice if you could somehow make something on the car flash to guide you to the correct vehicle.

2) Gauging damage before starting rental seemed problematic. First of all, it’s hard to really see scratches and dents very well in the dark. Also it’s impossible to see any interior damage until after you unlock the vehicle.

Other than those 2 things, my experience was great! I love this service!

### 5/5 — A Work in Progress

*2021-04-05, version 4.6.0*

Most of the time it’s great but 30% of the time the app sends me to an address but no car is there. Useless 800# tells me, “get a Uber ride”. What planet are these people on? Gig gave me a $30 promo but I was denied using it because it disappeared from my acct. Tried calling customer service several times and was told they don’t have supervisors on duty. Nobody called me back. The app is not reliable. Gig needs to get their act together if they want to stay in business. On paper it looks cool but this is a start up with internal mgmt problems
