## What is Glaze Lab?

Glaze Lab is your pottery studio companion — from glaze chemistry to the kiln. Everything in one place, all on your device.

RECIPES
Keep your glaze recipes, scale them to any batch weight, and calculate water for a target bucket volume — with a stock check against your inventory.

CHEMISTRY
See every glaze's UMF (unity molecular formula), its silica-to-alumina ratio, and where it sits on the Stull chart. Check glaze fit against your clay body and get the gentlest correction with the recipe doctor.

FIRING
Track a firing live as the kiln climbs, build firing schedules with ramps and holds, and look up temperatures in the cone chart (°F and °C).

STUDIO
Keep tabs on materials, clay bodies, test tiles, and finished work. Track sales and expenses in Studio Books, with CSV export.

LEARN
A glossary of dozens of pottery terms and a defects troubleshooter for crazing, shivering, pinholing, and more — with causes and fixes to try.

GLAZE LAB UNLIMITED
A one-time unlock lifts every cap and adds the recipe doctor and fit-fix suggestions. No subscription, no upsells — and your data never leaves your device.

### 5/5 — Great companion

*2026-06-19*

I now use this for all my pottery recipes

### 5/5 — All in one app!

*2026-06-13*

This app has replaced so many spreadsheets, notebooks, to do lists and does everything better than I was doing it before!

### 5/5 — Finally an app that’s useful for potters!

*2026-05-31*

I don’t make a lot of glazes but enough that it’s a pain to keep records of tests, recipes, variants, etc. And that is just the beginning! I can also track my live woodfirings, expenses, sales, and tasks. Goodbye excel, apple notes, notion! This app does it all. Actually one of my favorite tools is the batch calculator for glaze making.. you can actually set the volume of glaze you want, e.g. 4 gallons, perfect for a 5 gallon bucket and it gives you the amount of material and water you need based on your application type :D. Amazing and it’s free to download and well worth the unlimited upgrade.

### 2.2 — 2026-06-04

Hands-free help and a smoother studio.

Siri & Shortcuts
• Ask for batch amounts out loud — "batch amounts in Glaze Lab" picks a recipe and a size, then reads the dry-material weights back to you. Perfect when your hands are covered in glaze.
• Jump straight to a recipe or tool by voice, too.

Better recipe sharing
• Share cards now fit your photo properly — no more awkward cropping. Pick from Classic, Photo, or Minimal layouts, each with a scannable App Store code.

More recipes & flexibility
• Added Chots' Chun (formulated by Chots Levenson) to the community recipes.
• "My Glazes" is now "My Recipes" — it holds your slips, waddings, and kiln washes too, not just glazes.

Polish throughout
• Cleaner, more consistent scrolling in Discover and My Recipes.
• Friendlier wording in Settings, plus a few small fixes.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-05-27

Edit your recipes. Tap the pencil on any recipe you made to update ingredients, cone, atmosphere, surface, color, or notes. Saves in place — no more delete-and-rebuild.

Open and edit your tests. Tap any glaze test to see big photos, full notes, the result, and edit or delete it.

Defects troubleshooter. A new reference in the Tools tab covers crazing, crawling, pinholes, blistering, and shivering — chemistry causes, application causes, and fixes for each.

Chemistry depth. Five new filter chips on Discover (High silica, Boron flux, Lithium, Magnesium, Low expansion). Thirty-plus new pottery materials added — Mason stains, Ferro frits, Gerstley substitutes, specific wood ashes, and more. The materials database has been audited against Digitalfire for accuracy.

Dark mode. Settings → Preferences → Appearance. Warm dark palette designed for studio lighting.

Better first-run guidance. New tip cards on empty Recipe, Test, and Firing screens help you get started.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-05-18

A few studio-friendly upgrades:
• Fit-fix suggestions live right inside the fit panel now — save a fix
as a variant or apply it with one tap.
• Tasks got Apple-Notes-style polish: edit subtasks inline, drag to
  reorder, tap rows to open.
• Quality of life improvements — no more accidental text selection while scrolling.

Happy potting!
