## What is Global Locator?

Your position, in every coordinate system that matters — and the numbers never need a signal.

Global Locator turns your iPhone into a precise coordinate reader and navigation tool for hikers, geocachers, travellers, photographers and anyone who needs exact position data in a particular format.

SIX COORDINATE FORMATS

Read your position, or any point on the map, in Decimal Degrees, DMS, UTM, MGRS, USNG and UPS. Pan the map anywhere and every format updates together. Copy any single format to the clipboard with one tap.

PASTE ANYTHING

Auto Detect works out which format you pasted and tells you what it found, so you don't need to know whether a coordinate is MGRS or USNG before the app will take it. Pick a format manually whenever you prefer — your choice is remembered.

NOW IN 25 LANGUAGES

English, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese — including the compass rose in each language's own convention, and full right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew. Choose your language inside the app without changing your device.

THE NUMBERS RUN ON YOUR DEVICE

No account, no sign-in, no tracking. Every conversion, the compass, your saved places and the built-in city list work with no connection. Map tiles come from Apple Maps and need a signal like any map app — the coordinates never do.

YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE

Global Locator collects nothing and transmits nothing. Your location and your saved places never leave your iPhone.

SAVE THE PLACES THAT MATTER

Mark your parked car, a trailhead, a campsite, or anywhere you want to return to. Each saved location keeps its timestamp and all six coordinate formats. Search your favourites, sort them by name, date saved, or distance from where you are now, and rename them whenever you like.

Recent targets are kept separately, so a coordinate you used this morning is one tap away without cluttering the places you meant to keep.

NAVIGATION THAT TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO

The compass says "Turn slightly right" with the distance below it, and shows the target's true bearing separately. Your live GPS accuracy stays on screen. When you arrive, the app says so — and waits until the fix is good enough to mean it.

AR NAVIGATION

Set a target, raise your camera, and follow a marker placed at the target's true bearing. Six marker styles, sized by real distance, and an edge arrow when the target is behind you. Optional spoken guidance announces turns, distance milestones and arrival. If AR can't get its bearings, the app says why and offers the compass instead.

GEOCACHING

Enter published cache coordinates in whatever format they were given — or paste them and let the app work it out. Navigate in with the compass, then mark the find and add a note.

83 WORLD CITIES BUILT IN

Athens, London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, Singapore and 73 more across 60 countries. Search by city or country, or browse by region.

ACCESSIBILITY

VoiceOver reads a full navigation summary — distance, turn, bearing and accuracy — so the AR marker is never the only way to follow a target. Dynamic Type is supported throughout, and the compass stops animating when Reduce Motion is on.

BUILT FOR THE FIELD

Switch between kilometres and miles
Choose your GPS accuracy to balance precision against battery life
Light, Dark, or follow your device
Standard, satellite and hybrid map views
Share any saved location as a complete multi-format coordinate list, by message, mail, or any app you like

Whether you're walking back to your car in an unfamiliar city or reading a grid reference in the field, Global Locator gives you the number you need, in the format you need it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.2 — 2026-08-19

Now in 25 languages

Global Locator is fully translated into Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese, alongside English.

That includes the parts usually left in English: the 16-point compass rose, following each language's own convention rather than a letter-for-letter copy of N/NE/E; all 83 built-in cities and their countries; the spoken AR guidance; and the permission prompts. Arabic and Hebrew lay out right to left — except the compass dial and the AR turn arrows, which deliberately don't flip, because left still means your left hand.

Coordinate systems keep their standard names. UTM, MGRS, USNG and DMS are international standards, and a translated grid reference would be a wrong one.

Pick your language inside the app

You don't have to change your iPhone's language to read the app in another one. Choose it in Settings and the app switches straight away — including the city list, the compass points and the spoken guidance — and it's still there next time you open the app. Leave it on System to follow your device.

Settings rebuilt

Settings now uses standard iOS controls throughout, so it works properly with Dynamic Type, VoiceOver and both appearances. Each option explains what it does underneath it, and choosing High GPS accuracy no longer interrupts you with a warning to dismiss.

Fixes

Light and Dark now apply to every screen, including Settings itself, which used to stay on whatever appearance was set when you opened it
Changing the language now reaches every screen immediately, not just after a restart
The app's name on your Home Screen appears in your language

### 3.1 — 2026-08-11

**Corrected coordinate accuracy**

MGRS and USNG grid squares were calculated incorrectly in every earlier version. They are now verified against reference data worldwide.

Please re-check any grid reference you wrote down or saved before this update. Saved favourites keep the text that was stored at the time, so older entries still show the previous values. Latitude and longitude were always correct.

Also fixed: UTM coordinates in the southern hemisphere now convert back to the right place, UPS coordinates use proper zone letters, and DMS coordinates can finally be typed in — that field previously rejected every entry.

**Longer battery life**

The app was running several location and compass sessions at once. It now runs one, which noticeably reduces battery drain, and the AR view and favourites list are both much smoother.

**Fixes**

- Malformed coordinate input no longer closes the app
- The map no longer snaps back to your position while you're panning
- The favourites star now removes a location as well as adding one
- Your distance unit from Settings now applies everywhere
- GPS accuracy setting now takes effect on first launch
- AR display settings are now reachable
- Fixed a crash when sharing
