Having information geared toward people with Celiac Disease rather than just a generic “gluten-free” label makes finding somewhere to eat so much easier and less stressful. One feature I would really love is the ability to see the reviews and restaurant suggestions I’ve submitted. I’ve visited several smaller towns where the app shows few or no GF options, found restaurants that handled gluten-free dining well, and submitted them to Gluten Dude. Once I submit them, though, I have no way to know if they’re pending, approved, or eventually added. You can get notifications when a new restaurant is added near your home ZIP code, which is great, but that doesn’t help when you’ve suggested restaurants while traveling in other states. A “My Contributions” section showing my reviews and suggested restaurants, along with their status, would be fantastic. It would also make me much more likely to continue submitting places I find while traveling. I’d also love to see the database continue growing in smaller towns and less-populated areas. Overall, this is a fantastic resource and one I’m very glad to have! ### 5/5 — Useful and Trustworthy *2026-07-23, version 4.21* This is one of the very few apps I pay for and it is worth it! For someone, like me, who has to have no gluten including potential cross contamination, being able to find safe places to eat while on the road or at the airport is the difference between going out eat or going to the grocery store and “dining” on sandwich meat and rice crackers. Celiacs depend on someone vetting a restaurant and how their staff is trained to avoid cross-contamination This app does that goes beyond to make sure that staff are trained to avoid cross-contamination otherwise it’s not celiac safe I depend on this when I’m traveling and it’s never let me down Thanks Gluten Dude for never selling out or taking the easy way out Lori aka The Twisted Celiac. ### 5/5 — I had some issues, but it got fixed *2026-07-23, version 4.21* Update: I was finally able to get some help through social media to contact the app maker directly, it took several attempts before the issue was fixed, they had to completely delete my account and then I had to act like I was signing up all over again (but didn’t have to pay this time) and it did fix the issue. I will say, as far as accuracy, this is BY FAR the best gluten free app and I’m very happy that the issues were fixed. I paid $40 for a LIFETIME subscription and I haven’t even had this app for 90 days and it’s saying my “free trial” has ended, EXCUSE MEEEEEE?! It was NEVER FREE!!!!! I’m so thankful for Scott and his mission to make dining out safe for Celiacs. I’m excited for when there is a more robust selection of restaurants, but I’m also extremely grateful that he’s taking his time to vet each establishment. The vetting is thorough and the functionality is great. The owner is a passionate advocate for people living with celiac disease. It’s helped me find so many great options when I’m traveling. I have other GF apps as well, but I have always strongly listened to advice or suggestions from GD. I believe he cares a lot about the celiac community and does his best to give us great information. I believe that the cost is minimal for the resource this is for me. Over the years many improvements have been made, which I value. Early on I had a log in issue, I emailed him, he quickly responded and resolved it. For example, if I search “breakfast” it just lists all the restaurants in town, or zero restaurants in town. No in between. In fact, the top listings were for restaurants that were hundreds of miles away, despite having my location on and the correct filters set. It is incredibly buggy. It’s nice to have this app, but it very much feels like there isn’t much in the way of ongoing work to update the listings. And I’m saying all this as someone who did a free trial, didn’t have enough time to notice all the flaws, and unfortunately bought a lifetime subscription. Please fix your app! It has potential but it just seems to be on autopilot or something. I like that people can suggest restaurants and then they can be vetted. The “Dude vetted” notes are always helpful when deciding where to eat as well. And it gets worse. I get bombarded with emails about a “pay what you can promotion” and when I finally follow the link it’s pay what you can-above the $39 US minimum! Shady. ### 1/5 — Forces you to share location *2026-02-26, version 4.19* 1/5 stars for privacy. I should be able to search a city or other address without sharing my personal location. Willing to update this review should this issue be resolved. This is such an easy fix. I’m not willing to use this app until I’m empowered to manage my privacy and personal data. Workaround: use the trip planner feature and just enter the same destination for the “start” and “finish” of the trip. I’d probably sign up for the lifetime subscription but this design problem with the app is an absolute deal breaker. ### 1/5 — Limited *2026-02-14, version 4.19* I suppose if you only travel to the very limited areas this one dude travels or like chains, this app is fine. It’s been worthless everywhere I travel. Very limited restaurants; incomplete listings; info on DV (Dude Vetted) establishments lifted from website. The only DV in the area I’m in right now lists some info from the website and thanks another user for letting them know it’s not dedicated GF in 2025. So how was this vetted by the app team? It’s not. They just pulled info from a website with no research. But hey there’s a whole bunch of Five Guys. *eye roll* The app is a waste of money. But you’ll be handing the dev team more money by using their affiliate links and coupons. Save your money and just type Gluten Free in whatever city and get the same information and public reviews. ### 1/5 — Inconsistent ratings and misleading claims *2025-12-30, version 4.18* I paid $35/year (now $50) based on claims that this is the only properly vetted gluten-free app. My experience showed that this is misleading. Restaurants marked AVOID were safe according to Find Me Gluten Free, local gluten-free Facebook groups with firsthand experience, and my own testing. I ate at Lulu’s Waikiki three days in a row with no gluten reactions, despite it being labeled AVOID. The app claims restaurants are vetted by the developer calling them, yet many listings show 5-star ratings with no actual user reviews. After months offline, restaurants disappeared or had ratings changed from AVOID to SAFE without explanation. For a health-based app at this price, inconsistent and non-transparent ratings are not trustworthy. I won’t renew. Trust your local Facebook gluten-free groups ### 1/5 — Can’t use without paying. *2025-12-19, version 4.18* Can’t use without log in and paying. ### 1/5 — Miserable *2025-12-04, version 4.18* I hate the new format of this app. I want to see all of the 100% dedicated gluten free locations in the United States and Canada so I can plan a trip accordingly to availability of edible food. But now, you can only search within 20 miles of a specific area. I want to pick an area filled with green dots and plan a trip around it. This new format makes it unnecessarily difficult. There is still a major lack of transparency around vetting, which is the main reason I would use the app. There are also many places listed as “vetted” that are definitely not very safe.
