## What is Gnip?

Gnip is a network toolkit with a modern terminal interface.

COMMANDS

myip
Your local and public IP addresses, connection type, and carrier.

speedtest
Download and upload throughput across parallel streams, with latency sampled while the transfer is running rather than only at idle.

lanscan
Finds devices on your network using an ICMP sweep, TCP connects, the ARP table, and Bonjour discovery. Lists IP address, hardware vendor, device name, and open ports. Add --diff to see only what changed since your last scan, including devices that moved to a new address.

mtr
Traceroute and ping in a single view that keeps updating, so you can see which hop is dropping packets over time.

ping
Round-trip time, TTL, packet loss, and jitter, with a sparkline of recent samples.

traceroute
The route to a host, hop by hop, with timing for each.

tcping
Connection latency to a specific TCP port, for networks where ICMP is filtered but the service still responds.

dig
DNS over HTTPS through Cloudflare, Google, or Quad9. Returns full record sets with their TTLs.

ifconfig and arp
Interfaces, addresses and subnet masks, plus the ARP table with hardware vendor names.

weather, just for fun
Active warnings and watches first, then current conditions and a short forecast. Requests are kept small so it still loads on a weak connection.

THE SHELL

Flags behave the way they do on a workstation: -c 5, -c5, --count 5, --count=5, grouped short flags, and -- to stop parsing. Tab completes command names, the history recalls what you ran, and man command prints the full option list.

Buttons above the prompt run any command without typing.

PRIVACY

Gnip has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics, and there are no servers behind it. Scan results and command history stay on your device.

Location is used by one command, weather, at approximate accuracy while the app is open. You can supply coordinates yourself instead with weather --coords.
