## What is Go Pottie?

Fouled props cost sailors thousands. Go Pottie maps lobster and crab pot buoys along UK and Irish coastlines so you can see what's ahead before you reach it.

Built by sailors, for sailors.

Never miss a hidden pot again. Go Pottie can automatically alert you when a reported pot lies ahead on your course—even with the app closed.

WHY YOU NEED IT
Unmarked pot buoys are one of the most common hazards on UK coastal waters. Low-visibility, below radar level, and impossible to spot at speed — they appear suddenly and they're expensive when they do. A single prop fouling incident can mean an emergency haulout, hundreds of pounds in repairs, and a ruined passage.

Go Pottie puts every reported pot on your chart overlay in real time, so you're never caught off guard.

HOW IT WORKS
Any user can drop a pin when they spot a buoy. The map grows with every passage made by every Go Pottie user in your area. Every reported pot improves the map for everyone using Go Pottie. As more sightings are added, local coverage becomes increasingly comprehensive.

FEATURES

For sailors:
• Live map of nearby lobster, crab, and prawn pot buoys
• Proximity alerts — your phone notifies you automatically when a marked pot is ahead, with heading and distance, even if the app is closed
• Offline map caching — no mobile signal offshore? Your chart data comes with you

For anyone with pots in the water:
• Place your pots on the map with a single GPS tap
• Instant theft alert if a pot is reported missing — on all tiers, free
• Log haul counts per pot and track your best-performing grounds over the season

THREE TIERS. ONE MAP.

Free — harbour range, enough to see pots in your immediate area. Report pots at your location. Full pot logging. Instant missing pot alerts.

Pro — everything in Free, plus coastal range for a full day's passage and geofenced proximity alerts that fire automatically while you're underway.

Max — everything in Pro, plus offshore range for pre-departure passage planning, full offline map caching, and the ability to add pot positions manually by lat/lon.

BACKED BY THE SAILING COMMUNITY
Go Pottie is built around community reporting. Every sailor who confirms or spots a pot makes the map more accurate for everyone who follows. The more people who use it in your area, the safer your local waters become.

Start for free. Upgrade when you're ready.

### 3/5 — Great idea but might need some work……

*2026-07-30*

To the developers……
Having had a few close calls with pots over the years I immediately downloaded this app when I read about it. I’m not currently at sea but whilst it looks easy to log a pot, just searching through the pots already listed off the UK south coast, it doesn’t seem possible to zoom in close enough or to see an exact Lat/Long to avoid.
It’s a very predictable first action for a user to try out and unfortunately it didn’t work as expected, so a disappointing first moment of truth!
It’s a great idea - top marks for that - and maybe it’s a temporary glitch or I’m not using it correctly, but to be effective this needs to be very easy to use both for listing a pot as well as locating a pot, and it seems to fail on the latter. Maybe a simple tutorial would help?
