However, I was surprised by the number of extra charges added to what should have been a simple taxi ride. On a recent trip, my metered taxi fare was only ¥700, but I ended up paying ¥1,300: * ¥700 meter fare * ¥300 pickup fee * ¥100 GO app fee * ¥200 “International Service Charge” charged specifically because I was a short-term foreign visitor. That’s almost double the metered fare. While the international surcharge is explained in the Help section, it isn’t something many tourists would expect when booking a taxi. The combination of a booking fee, pickup fee, and tourist-specific surcharge makes the app significantly more expensive than simply hailing a taxi on the street or taking one from a taxi stand. The app itself is reliable, but I believe pricing should be much more transparent before confirming a ride. As a visitor to Japan, I would recommend using GO only when necessary. Otherwise, hailing a taxi directly will often save you money. ### 5/5 — Suggestion *2026-07-20, version 10.3.30* A great, easy-to-use app. As an American, it would be nice to have an easy way to view or translate destinations from Japanese into English. The cab drivers are very polite, the vehicles are clean and kept comfortably cool and you arrive very quickly and safely. Would recommend to anyone. So barely was able to catch my $100 scheduled train because of this VERY POOR SERVICE. Luckily my second driver was good. The app does allow registration with a passport, but it doesn't accept Russian passports, even though I have no problems entering the country. Contacting technical support didn't help, and the only response was, "Sorry, we can't help." I really hope this isn't just a polite reply (I'm referring to the developer's response), but that some real action will be taken. This issue is clearly not isolated, judging by the comments. It's just a strange story: the app is marketed as being for visiting Japan, but it's not available to visitors. Especially considering that getting a Japanese number also requires completing a quest of sorts. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. The taxis have been very clean, comfortable, with enough space for our carryons and backpacks. The app is clear, easy to understand, with excellent and timely notifications.
