### 4/5 — Battery runs out

*2023-10-03*

Overall it’s a great app. Latest upgrade got stuck in a loop and kept asking me to select a club. I had to turn off this option to make it usable.
I often run out of battery so it would be nice to know how to improve the battery life.

**Developer response:** I see you installed version 2.1.5 which solves the bug with the club selection loop.

About the battery, the GPS is the main battery consumer which uses 10-15% battery per hour. Switching off the GPS makes the app useless.

I haven't tested if turning off swing detection would make the battery life better but I dont expect to.

### 5/5 — A Free App that’s better than most subscription apps!

*2023-04-10*

I have been using this free golf GPS app on my Apple Watch Ultra for over 4 months now and it is amazingly reliable and accurate.

Not only are the app’s reported yardages at my home course spot on when tested against sprinkler-marked yardages, they have also never been more than +/- 1 yard different from the best handheld range finders on the market.

If you need more accurate front/ middle/ back yardages to greens than that, then you should be on tour with a professional caddie!

Other great features:

- I don’t have to run the app simultaneously on my iPhone, as the two GPS chips in the Apple Watch Ultra can handle all the heavy lifting without chewing up a lot of the watch’s battery.

- the app has never failed to locate and download another course I might be visiting.

- the app auto-progresses from hole to hole and the displayed yardages are large enough to be read easily.

- the app can also auto-detect a swing and measure shot distance (although this is, frankly, something I seldom use since I can do distance math in my head like the rest of the thinking world! Those same basic counting skills mean I also don’t need “scoring” features on a golf GPS app, especially since courses still have things like scorecards and pencils if I ever find to too difficult to keep track of my score in my head!)

All the features of Golf4Watch just work and are free. I repeat - FREE! Compare this app with other Apple Watch golf apps out there and see how much they charge for “premium features” or for monthly or manual subscriptions.

For me, I simply love being able to wear the same watch before, during, and after a round. I get all the functionality of my Apple Watch and a great and simple golf GPS in one device.

As a result, My Garmin S62 golf watch now sits unused in a desk drawer, hidden away so as not to visually taunt me for how much I paid for something that this little app does for free.

Get this, use it, and you’ll be happy.
Kudos to the developer for sharing it.

### 5/5 — Simple and it works

*2023-04-05*

I’ve tried many golf apps and this is the one that works best. It’s simple and it performs the most important task (front, center, back of green) perfectly. It’s easy to read for those of us that need readers but don’t wear them on the course. The shot tracking is a nice perk as well. Also, it doesn’t drain your Apple Watch battery like so many others.

### 5/5 — This is ALMOST exactly what i’ve been looking for.

*2022-10-20, version 2.0.4*

I’ve not seen any other Apple watch app that allows you to interact with the map as simply as this one does. Super easy. Needs to integrate a full scoring suite (score, GIR, Fairways, Putts.etc). Then, since it tracks shot distances, start collecting that data and aggregating into a club averages. Also, 1 feature I LOVE with my Garmin that makes me reluctant to part with it is the shot mapping so i can go back and look at the roy d and see where and how far i hit each shot.

### 5/5 — Works First Time Every Time

*2022-06-16*

Truly a stand alone iWatch range finder. Found accuracy to be within 9 to 12 feet on every hole. Easy to use and the best part is that you can leave your iPhone at home. Score tracking will be a rel plus and it’s coming soon.

**Developer response:** Hi there,

Great to hear. So the distance is based to the center, front and back of the green. That is not necessarily the flag position. I found that the GPS itself is at most 3 feet off.

### 5/5 — Very good golf app

*2022-05-01*

Finally found a golf app that does not need my iPhone at all. Recently it does not show middle distance until within 100 yards, but it gives back and front. I easily determine the middle. Use it all the time

**Developer response:** Hi Flip,

Got more reports of no showing the middle distances. It was due to a Apple update. It is fixed since yesterday, so please update the app.

Thanks for the review.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-04-25, version 2.0.2*

One of the best golf apps out there

### 5/5 — Golf4Rangefinder

*2022-04-23*

### 5/5 — A hidden gem indeed

*2022-04-11*

Love this stand alone gps for Apple Watch. Just the basics. Love it. Uses about 50% of a full charge for 18 holes. Still plenty left to get you through your day. Would love to see the addition of a simple way to just keep your score. Keep up the great work

**Developer response:** Thanks RayRay,

Hope more people start Gem seeksing then! Scoring is comming, as well as a phone app and shot statistics.

### 5/5 — A hidden Gem!

*2022-02-22*

Simple design and easy to use. I’ve used the Fitbit version before and loved it. Can’t wait to try this one out.

**Developer response:** Thank you LongFellow. The Fitbit offers more features currently but I will bring the Apple App on Par with Fitbit and even beyond. Enjoy.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — So many challenges

*2026-03-07*

Watch app was clunky and inability to correct during a round. I tried a number of times when playing with different settings, and could not get the right hole, the right score. Love the idea. Hate the implementation.

### 1/5 — Michael Gasparini

*2025-05-27*

Terrible app also cannot cancel subscription. I’ve tried multiple times to cancel. I’ve emailed, I’ve googled how to. Nothing works. They will likely get $1 a month from me for the remainder of my life.

**Developer response:** Hi Michael,

I cannot find any email correspondence. But canceling a subscription can be done trough your apple subscriptions.

### 1/5 — Connecting GPS forever

*2023-11-13*

Installed the app on my iWatch 8 a while back. When open the app, it started connecting GPS forever. I have the location service on and shared.

### 1/5 — Why god, why?

*2023-10-27*

Please fix the gps location for this app. I’ve reinstalled. I’ve reset my location and privacy. Nothing works. I just want this app to work on my watch and not just my phone. Please it could be so good

**Developer response:** Aidan,

I understand your frustrations, as I share them each day. I don't find it fair that you give a 1 star review to my app which is basically a Bug in the new Watch OS 10 from Apple. It only affects standalone watch apps, using GPS after a reinstall or update and running WatchOS 10.

So I guess you have read my solution on https://golf4watch.com/faq-apple
It is very annoying, as I developer I update the app each day and do that process again and again. So far every user has managed to succeed. I occasionally encounter the issue that it is not fixed right away and I do the process again. After reinstalling, the phone should prompt for location access again as well. you can also grant it there. So after the fixing-steps, the phone and watch app shouldnt prompt for location access. If you see location permission request screen, the solution worked.

The uninstall of the apps isn't a necessary step, but it helps. You can try just resetting location and privacy without reinstalling the apps.

### 1/5 — Just not accurate

*2022-08-02, version 2.0.4*

I tried this on a few courses, even standing on the 150 yard marker. The range was usually off 5-10 yards. I borrowed a range finder and it showed numbers very close to the yardage markers on the course.

### 2/5 — Help.

*2026-05-04*

I get error that it’s not in correct format. Can anyone tell me why?

**Developer response:** Error is fixed.

### 2/5 — No longer works on Apple Watch SE

*2023-12-18*

Used to love this app but now it won’t even load/connect. It just says that GPS is connecting but it never works. Shame because I really loved how simple and accurate it was.

**Developer response:** Hi Czarnone,

The GPS issue is a bug in WatchOs 10. It affects all standalone watch app that use gps. The solution is easy. You can find it here: https://golf4watch.com/faq-apple

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Ensure that your Apple Watch and phone are connected.
Remove the app from both the Watch and the Phone.
On your phone, go to the Settings app, then navigate to:
 General->Transfer or Reset iPhone->Reset->Reset Location & Privacy
Reboot your phone.
Reboot your Watch.
Reinstall the app on both your phone and Watch.
Start the app on the phone, and a request for location access should pop up. If granted, the watch can access the gps as well.

### 3/5 — Loved it but.,,

*2024-10-22*

For the last 6 weeks
Or so the app drops out of The round and I have to restart. Annoying it no longer stays in the round. Was great, now, not so much

**Developer response:** This is a bug since watchOs 11. Difficult to see where it comes from.

The issue was found. I just uploaded a new version. If apple reviews it succesfully, then you can download it in a few hours.

#Edit Since the issue is solved, would you consider changing your review rating?

### 3/5 — PVGC

*2022-10-21*

I really like the app. Great features. I like how it knows when I hit a shot and tells me how far I hit the ball. I play at Palos Verdes golf club and it was very accurate EXCEPT for the 15th and 16th holes where it was approximately 50 and 100 yard off. Hopefully you can fix this.

**Developer response:** That is fixed. https://golf4watch.com/courses/60c49b24-5386-11ec-a4b7-0050568dfd49

### 4/5 — Great but..

*2024-09-17*

Love the app. Used it on a number of courses. Very accurate. But how do you change the hole?
It’s fine when I’m starting on 1, but sometimes we start on 10. It does not recognize where I am and I can’t get it to 10 or wherever I am.

**Developer response:** Hi

You either rotate the crown to switch holes. Or swipe left and right over the distances.

### 5/5 — Fitbit was always Better than Apple Watch-Golf4Watch makes Fitbit lead even bigger

*2026-05-11*

Love this app for my rounds of golf. Does exactly what you need for your game from distance estimates, scoring and other tracking.

### 5/5 — Top App, super Support…

*2024-11-10*

### 5/5 — Superb

*2024-07-25, version 3.1.1*

This app is fantastic. I have used Arcoss for a couple of years, but this app suits me better. All the information you need hole to hole. So affordable, reliable and great support.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2024-07-04, version 3.0.7*

I had been scrolling through all of the watch apps in the App Store and watching videos but every app was bloated with club selection; videos of the course; score keeping etc etc. All I wanted was an app to see the distance to the green &/or the hole. FINALLY I found this app! You can have all the bells and whistles but you can turn them off to get a rangefinder on your wrist! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Easy and accurate

*2024-02-24*

Worked flawless. Easy to read from my Apple Watch.

**Developer response:** Thanks. I prefer readability and clear interfaces above design.

### 5/5 — Great customer service and great app

*2024-01-06*

I really love the simplicity of the app. I only use it for yardages so I have turned everything off except that. I did have to stop using it because of the battery issue, but after speaking with the developer he made it where you could choose to use your phone’s gps. Great customer service.

**Developer response:** Thanks Matt for this review.

A month later, The battery drain issue still persists. It is crazy. Just received the Beta Watch os 10.4, still the same case.

### 5/5 — Great app for Apple Watch

*2023-09-07, version 2.1.3*

I like this app a lot. It works extremely well.

### 5/5 — Perfect App

*2023-08-22*

Hands down the best Golf App for the Apple Watch. Provides the essential information to focus on the game and not distract from it.

**Developer response:** Hi / Gutentag,

Thanks. That is indeed my intention, minimal distraction on the course.

### 5/5 — A Free App that’s better than most subscription apps!

**Developer response:** Hi David,

Thank you for this great review!

I havent tested the app on the Ultra yet. Didnt know it had 2 GPS onboard! The single GPS variant also works pretty good. The apple watch has the best GPS. I make apps for samsung, fitbit and google.. Apple in General is the best regarding its GPS.

Perhaps for the Ultra, I can even make the distance numbers larger. In my opinion, they should be as large as possible

The release of yesterday includes scoring as I got that request many times. I made this app for myself in first instance. I don't need scoring as well. I only play tournaments and have to put in a physical card as well. Also, when playing outside tournaments, in the Netherlands you have to use a dutch golfing association app so that my handicap is updated.

Anyway, those extra features will require a payment in the future. The reasoning behind is, that I will charge something that I make for others, and not for myself.

Since the app is now used by many more people, the satellite image provider is charging me as well as I go out of the free tier.

The pricing for fitbit is now 10 dollars a year or 1 dollar per month, so nothing to be really scared off.

### 5/5 — Love Golf4Watch

*2023-04-20*

Simple and uses very little battery power.

**Developer response:** Thanks Bald John.

Little it still 10% per hour i guess for you? The GPS is the main consumer. For the rest I try to minimize battery consumption in every way.
