I was practicing mid day in 75 degree weather. When it was working it was great but sadly it didn’t last long on my phone. :( ### 3/5 — Almost Great *2026-06-04, version 21.4* If you could API to 18Birdies, so data about my practice could help with my on course experience, GolfBoy would be perfect. ### 4/5 — Great Budget Sim App *2026-04-04, version 20.2* This app and I went through a journey that’s still growing. It works great with the right setup. Here’s what I learned, lighting matters big time, I hung pin spotlights from my garage ceiling which woke very well to light the ball. The app works best with real balls, in the garage I wanted foam balls, it took trial and error but I found that go sports foam flights work very well set at 1.36 custom ball. Biggest deal however is a solid hitting mat. I started in one of those 1’x2’ chipping mats and the contrast between the mat and the garage floor made the ball impossible to track. Added a 3’x5’ mat that takes up entire viewing screen and bam it tracks everything. This app works much better outdoors with natural light, but with the right setup you can make a budget garage sim setup with this as the base. The 3d presentation makes the monthly cost worth it. My only suggestion is for the driving range feature to say go on the external screen the way it does in course mode. ### 5/5 — Review/Suggestion *2026-03-26, version 20.2* Love this app, as an amateur/beginner golfer, it’s great for learning and understanding my swing. I can’t wait for the future features of the app with the possibility of even ball spin maybe one day ;) haha. My main suggestion I have for the app is with custom courses, being able to bundle multiple holes into one course! That way I can create multiple courses that I have nearby to practice a full course game without getting confused of which hole is what course etc. Thanks for the great app! I had the free trial and also the basic app was free then. It’s really incredible. I bought the 3D driving range which I thought was the ability to play the basic 3D courses. I streamed it through the iPad on to a projector which game me a full golf sim in my lounge. I had a subscription for 2 moths to try it. However, until they manage to integrate hook and slice it is not really that much use. Hooking and slicing are the main issue with most peoples games and without knowing that, you have no idea if you have actually hit a decent shot. I will look at the subscription once the developers have done this, which I do hope they manage to do. It will then get 5 stars from me - I feel a bit mean not giving it 5 now, but without this measurement it doesn’t seem complete. ### 3/5 — Great idea, but only works periodically. *2026-03-06, version 20.0* I’ve loved Golfboy since I started using it roughly about 10 months ago. But my subscription was canceled due to a card issue. When I re-added my card and started using the app again it all of a sudden doesn’t work even though I took the updates. It used to only register about 15 out of 20 shots now it only registers about two out of every 20. I don’t know why. I have bright light conditions, natural light conditions, low light conditions and it just does not seem to want to register shots anymore. I’m not sure what to do. ### 5/5 — Impact photo is super useful *2026-03-01, version 19.4.5* I wish they would give options as to what review screens you want to see after shot. Currently 3 review screens are shown. Graph of shot, video and impact image. I wish they’d give options to turn each of these 3 on or off and how long they are displayed for. I really just want it to show the impact image after shot for a bit longer also. ### 5/5 — A great App- with non -LED lighting *2026-02-17, version 19.4.5* Once I figured out I needed a standard halogen/incandescent light source rather than LED (regardless of brightness)…. This app has worked amazingly!! It is a 3 in one program that has helped tremendously. The close up swing analytics and video capture are awesome and the standing swing analyzer is good as well. Bonus is it comes with numerous courses to “play” similar to a real sim! Great to break up the monotony of just club/ball speed and distance. ALL in a one stop shop with a good IPhone and non-LED lighting source! When it works. Which is random. Whether the lighting is bright, tripod set properly, angle, tilt, etc it WILL stop registering hits. Maybe 2 maybe the next 5. Back out, restart it might work. Close the app completely and restart, it might work. Reboot the phone, delete the app, reload, restart, it might work. Overall it has the potential to be an awesome app! Hopefully they will figure it out. ### 3/5 — Could be better. It’s for a better player who already knows things *2026-01-24, version 19.4.5* Slightly confusing Manual. I don’t get why you can “adjust” the distances gauged after the first shot! That means you have to know how far you hit the ball already for it to calibrate for your session, that you would have to laser the target and hit it to that, adjust the distance it went according to that ball, instead of just telling you how fast you’re swinging and how far that particular ball went! Know what I mean? I want to just set it up, hit a particular club, and show me what I did, but for a real beginner person who knows nothing, this is not the first App they should try. For real first time type beginner player, they need to go get measured real quick on a big machine so they get an idea of each of their club, and then use this App afterwards to continue their improvement. So in that sense I can only give it 3 stars because it’s got good stuff but is not easy to use, even for me I got confused as to why I have to hit a shot and then adjust how far it’s going based on that because all kinds of balls are all different and I have to SEE to know how I should adjust it. Just make it easier on the adjustment. Make it simple where you just increase the ball differences by percentages up or down, depending on the type of ball. And why does it only go 280 yards??? If you fixed it so we can hit them over 300 yards and get much more accurate measurements you can beat Foresight with this. Nobody really wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars for that other machine. It’s also not very good outside on real grass, where I mostly practice. It gives different readings on every other shot. Not accurate at all. Too many different readings on real grass. ### 4/5 — Communication *2026-01-20, version 19.4.5* I am using Golfboy free trial which I find quite good, set up is sometimes fiddly and very light sensitive. The major issue I’ve had is I have emailed customer support twice without any reply. I would like to think I would get better communication if I was subscribing to the app. Problem with communication solved emails had gone to there spam. Since this was noticed communication has been excellent. Did the free trial and was hooked. Need to test it at a range as soon as possible to check distance accuracy. Understandably, it’s not able to detect spin on the ball yet, so it’s not able to project slice or hooks. Also not able to connect to another app with the data it gives, like GS Pro. (Hence the 4/5 stars) For winter with my indoor net set up it’s still a lot of fun. I love the tracking. It’s great for a beginner like me not wanting to put all my money into a simulator and just find out yardage totals of my clubs. Now of course it doesn’t show spin-rate because it’s only using a camera, but for what it is, it works very well! I have also recently used the swing analyzer as well and have been comparing myself to the pros they have on there and that’s helped me realize what I’m doing wrong. However one thing I wish they add in the future is the option to upload my own coaching clips I may find on like TikTok or X of peoples swings and use theirs as a template to compare mine to. As of now you only have two coaches to choose from and can’t upload a swing to work with. I have a net inside of my home and living in AK, this is used 8 months out of the year to stay in golf shape. I also use it in season to warm up before heading to the course.
