However, evidence suggests that the company’s entire backend infrastructure is based in China, and it may be collecting personal information from U.S. residents and unlawfully transmitting that data to a third country. The company’s owner is a Chinese citizen who has only recently obtained a temporary green card. The individual responsible for the company’s U.S. operations is a woman from China who does not appear to have legal authorization to work in the United States. Despite this, she frequently enters the U.S. to give public lectures and engage in business activities on behalf of the company. There is reason to suspect that the owner may be misusing his visa status and that the company’s operations may violate U.S. data privacy laws and immigration regulations.
