My skin and hair have never been better! I really like how everything is customized to your personal preferences and gives you matches based on percentage. Love it! ### 5/5 — Wonderful app for natural products *2021-05-12, version 1.4.7* I’m so glad I came across this app. The way they have it so easy to search for products and have a list of the ingredients and the harmful ingredients and why they could potentially be harmful is great. I’ve also had the opportunity to be apart of the good face panel and that has been fun as well because I received the opportunity to try products I otherwise would probably have never risked trying. I had products that I was using that I was SO SURE were clean and good for my skin, and it turned out they had so many chemicals and carcinogens in them! This app has saved my skin and greatly increased my knowledge regarding my skincare products. I use a LOT OF SKINCARE; and skin is semipermeable and leaving me vulnerable to all sorts of chemicals that I both didn’t understand and didn’t know how they were harmful. This app will tell you what ingredients in your skincare or beauty products might be harmful. Then IT TELLS YOU THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS THEY MAY CAUSE. It is very interesting compared to others due to the ability that they have to match you with products. I also love that the focus is on clean beauty as this is becoming more and more important to me. I was recently sent products to sample in exchange for review. I must say it is one of the best app collaborations I’ve ever been part of! It was very straightforward, fair and I was sent some extremely scrumptious products that I didn’t even know existed! I love that it tells you exactly why a product might be bad/irritating, so you can decide which products you’re okay with and which you want to avoid. I also really appreciate that the app cites the scientific article the information comes from, so I know it’s reputable. I love that it gives me cleaner suggestions for nearly every product I look up. I always love the personalization quizzes; they ask what type of skin you have, age, skin concerns, I think it’s really helpful. You can favorite products you really like, and there’s so much range of products in general. They list all of the ingredients, if it’s right for you, you’ll definitely know. You plug in your day to day life ranging from exercise to even the type of atmosphere you are in and everything to do with your skin, it gives you recommendations based on you specifically. This is the best way for you to use products more based on what is right for you and I think that is really awesome. Like having your own skincare specialist at your fingers! ### 5/5 — Favorite skincare and product app! *2021-05-10, version 1.4.7* This is the best app for full transparency of all your skincare and beauty products. There is so much false marketing out there that even a sophisticated shopper gets easily misled by all the buzzwords. Most products these day say something to the effect of clean, green, free but that’s not truly the case! This app gives you full transparency of what is in products. Only thanks to this app have I been able to slowly switch out all my beauty products - many of which I had previously thought were clean! When you look up a product, it gives you a simple score of the product, but also gives you a very in-depth analysis of why it’s harmful. The best part is that it also gives you a recommendation of an alternative cleaner product. I don’t put anything on my body before first consulting this app. ### 5/5 — Great app for learning about and sampling clean beauty products *2021-05-10, version 1.4.7* As consumers become more interested in products that are better for the environment and better for our bodies, it has become difficult to navigate misleading marketing and complicated ingredient lists. The Good Face app makes it so easy to find products that are effective and natural. I’ve also been able to sample multiple products through the app, which is a great way to try new products. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not helpful or even accurate *2021-02-06, version 1.4.6* When you search products you get multiple results for the same product with different ratings. Furthermore, they tell you there are ingredients that aren’t safe but don’t say what they are. Also, the so called “experts” are just other people on the app that sign up to try products. They are not required to have any education or professional qualifications in the field of esthetics or any background in skincare or healthcare of any kind! Choices of ingredients to avoid is also limited. And there is no way to search based on ingredients you’re looking for. I also find it irritating that you have to log in using a Facebook, google, or apple account. ### 3/5 — Somewhat helpful *2022-02-07, version 1.4.7* It’s an interesting concept, needs work and refinement. Here are some notes: 1) There should be a way to edit your full profile. The section where you check off toxins you want to avoid should link to some explanation—it’s pretty difficult unless you’re a chemist. I got stuck in a few of them, and I could not find a way to say I did not want phenoxyethanol. 2) when you search for an ingredient or product, like for example “vitamin C” or “vitamin c serum” the results should be ranked according to your algorithm percentage of what is a good match. 3) clean certified—not sure how you came up with that. Seems like they paid you to get the sticker. There is inconsistency with the plus minus ratings. There are items where the same ingredient gives a product a plus, and another product a minus. Not sure how you rate these. It’s a great idea—and I am sure a ton of work. Nice job overall 2L16 ### 3/5 — Love but can’t figure out one detail *2020-11-22, version 1.4.1* I love this app. I have been searching years for more science based recommendation sites. I use Paula’s Choice and it has made a huge difference since I started using Beautypedia 8 years ago to find better skincare. Now I have another alternative to better narrow down products that both sites recommend. I have rosacea prone skin and am looking forward to see the recs y’all have for me. One thing I can’t figure out though and it is keeping me away from 5 stars is why have the community posts where some members are asking questions if I am not able to respond to them? Please let me know where I am missing the ability to communicate with others. I would also like to see the options to filter/sort by match %, reviews or +/-/!/G symbols. **Developer response:** Hi there! Thank you for the thoughtful feedback! We agree! About filters, there are filters galore (including the ones you mention) in the "search" tab of the app. ### 3/5 — Can’t wait to see this get better and better! *2020-07-14, version 1.0.2* I love the idea of this app so much! I’ve just started doing a deeper dive into my skin health so the timing is perfect. It’s much needed and has so much potential. From my initial pass through it, here are areas I’d love to see updates: - more diverse + black owned beauty brands - less product options to scroll through after completing the survey. I want to be able to know the top 5 products I should look into, not the top 30+. - the questionnaire was tough to answer: even a Q as simple as skin tone was difficult with the descriptors available (ex: what does “dark” mean?) - I don’t know what all the toxic ingredients are and their implications on my particular skin - definitions could be super helpful! I found myself in a separate browser, googling. - It is extra work to go through each of the product categories to re-select the ethics/safety/toxins info. I imagine people have different preferences for their skin vs their hair. ### 4/5 — Must have App *2021-08-30, version 1.4.7* I love this app so much. It’s very easy to search and read results. I have already gone through almost all of my hair and skin care products. I was surprised to find out so many had hormonal disrupters or high levels of irritants. I became more concerned after a few new products that were supposed to be “holy grail” or high rated left me with contact dermatitis. I did use the app to find new products to replace the ones I decided to toss out and have really loves them. This has really proven to be a game changer on putting my money toward proven clean products that perform as expected or better. ### 4/5 — Could be better *2021-05-24, version 1.4.7* It’s a pretty useful app if you’d like to switch your daily skin care routine to more clean and healthy way. I hope it can allow users to upload more products with verified ingredients (like CosDNA). Not all products I’m interested to know are on their database especially Korean or Japanese beauty brands. What’s more, sometimes I feel the rates aren’t unbiased. Even two products share almost same ingredient list, they may have totally different rate since they belong to different brands. ### 4/5 — An app that actually helps *2021-05-13, version 1.4.7* I discovered Good Face Beauty app while at my dermatologist’s office. It is such a helpful app when wanting to learn more about new products or even ones your currently using. I’ve received two products to review via their Good Face Experts panel. Their product review panel guidelines are pretty simple and cost you nothing unless you don’t complete the study which is something I absolutely love. It cost companies a lot of money to send products out for clients to review and when your being compensated for said product you should uphold your part of the deal. I’ve really loved using the app and being apart of the Good Face Expert panel. If your wanting to stick more to a chemical free, environmental friendly, animal free, and less lifestyle this is a great app for you to have. ### 4/5 — Great for Finding New Favorites *2021-05-11, version 1.4.7* I tried this on a whim but was pleasantly surprised. It’s helped me find some new products to try and samples of products from brands I like. Love the concept as a whole since it cuts down on time I would’ve had to spend researching chemicals/ingredients and seeking out reviews. I do wish they would make it easier to import the products you already use, build out your routine and suggest similar items that match your preferences/skin type. But I’m sure over time and with more users they will make some updates that make more suggestions. ### 4/5 — Amazing app for conscious consumers. *2021-05-11, version 1.4.7* I’ve been using the EWG app for a few years and when I found Goodface it was super easy to implement into selecting personal care and beauty products! It’s really important that what I put on my body doesn’t cause any harm, and it’s also important that the products I use reflect my values regarding veganism and animal testing. This app has made it so easy to not only find products that I use/intend to use, but I love love LOVE that they offer cleaner alternatives to products with lesser ratings. Thank you, Goodface team! Only complaint I have is that the app doesn’t always work perfectly for me. I am unable to click the link to request a brand/product be added. That said, I still would highly recommend this app! ### 4/5 — Incredible content in one place! *2020-07-16, version 1.0.21* It’s so difficult to choose the right face products! The marketing is so opaque and I have no idea what works. As I get older and want to invest in my face care routine with more expensive products, having good information is key. This app provides a wealth of knowledge and is a trusted source of accurate/well-researched information. I don’t know of another source like it! Knocked off a star because there’s still some room to go with the UX/UI - it’s not always intuitive to navigate and the filtering options are lacking - but I’m sure it will improve overtime. I have now used the good face project app for a few weeks and so far found 2 amazing products that have done wonders for my skin. If you care about what you’re putting on your face/body but don’t have the time or patience to do the research yourself, I 100% recommend downloading this free app ### 5/5 — What I’ve been looking for *2022-05-30, version 1.4.7* This app is excellent. I can search the products that I use and it gives me information on the ingredients, whether they’re good or bad, and if it contains toxins or irritants. And if I can’t find my product, I email the app through a link and I describe the product I need examined and then like the next day, they’ve emailed me that it’s on the app already. Very cool. Knowing what is in your cosmetics/products seems impossible sometimes. Companies are not transparent or use key words like no cruelty or natural ingredients to catch your eye! These same companies have hormonal disrupters or carcinogens in their products. This app has proved to be an invaluable source of information! Also, if there is a product that is not available on the app, you email, they review. Reviews don’t provide anything about ingredients so what works for one person won’t always work for another. I know what ingredients don’t agree with my skin but I hate reading labels. I used this app to find cleaner alternatives to products I liked and I finally have the clear skin of my dreams.
