I’ve given both my email addresses no response. No facility to reset the account. Complete waste of time. ### 1/5 — One of the worst apps out there *2024-04-21, version 1.2.0* I did not think that bad apps were still out there. This is one of the worst I have come across. It is so clunky you need to wait ages for anything to happen. It does not filter results. You end up having to reset your password a lot. All I can see is a blank blue screen. It would appear that there have been no software updates for over a year, which is worrying for such a young app. ### 1/5 — Poor coverage *2023-01-03, version 1.1.5* Before downloading, be aware, this is NOT the same as the book. It is a new guide, started from scratch, with no knowledge or information passed on. I really hope it is still true that you are adding more reviews constantly- the coverage is terrible, even in big cities. Not even complete coverage of Michelin starred restaurants. It would be more sensible to add a lot of coverage in concentrated areas so that the app actually becomes useful, rather than slowly building it up over time. Although I agree that some of the 2020 reviews from the book are probably out of date, why didn’t you just start by reviewing all of those restaurants?! Then at least you would have been equally as good as the book. ### 1/5 — Want the App but it doesn’t want me *2022-10-18, version 1.1.5* Downloaded and went through sign up or thought I did put in a password the app then decided to send me around in circles as it didn’t recognise my password asking me to enter password in a möbius loop, so frustrating ### 1/5 — Good App, Paltry number of restaurants listed. *2022-08-25, version 1.1.4* As a purchaser of the Good Food Guide book for 20 years it disappoints me to have to say this is a useless and completely inadequate over priced guide The restaurant review they have are fine. The number of them is paltry and massively inadequate to be regarded as a usable guide. Complete waste of money until they put a decent number of reviews on the App. It is shocking how many establishments that should be in are missing from this Good Food app. For example, I dined in Lancashire last week at So-Lo. It should be a dead cert to be included, but is not. Only 4 entries in the whole county. Even Moor Hall and Northcote Manor miss the app. Shockingly bad! GF. You really need to raise your game! ### 1/5 — Absolutely appalling coverage and value for money DO NOT BUY *2022-08-05, version 1.1.4* ThIs is a shocking product for the money. The original GFG provided comprehensive coverage from big cities to rural idylls and off the beaten track gems. This online version is abysmal in its coverage. No Martin Wishart in Edinburgh. No L’Enclume in Cartmel. Not one single restaurant in the whole of the UK rated ‘World Class’. Don’t waste your money. Google is better. ### 1/5 — Seriously disappointing *2022-08-01, version 1.1.4* Fully agree with all poor reviews. I naively assumed that this was the digital version of the book. It is not. It looks like it is starting from scratch… and doesn’t even include many of the classic high-end high-scoring venues in virtually all other food guides. Sorry but you have a long way to go (even at 50 reviews every other week) before you can justify this subscription charge. ### 1/5 — Horrible *2022-07-31* I made a huge mistake in buying it! Worthless can’t find any of the restaurants we are interested in in London. Do not buy! Dry expensive..I was an idiot ### 1/5 — Not a patch on the book *2022-07-16, version 1.1.4* For £30 this is, to put it mildly, overpriced. Many areas of the country have virtually no coverage (four restaurants in the whole of Cambridgeshire and one in Derbyshire?!) and if this is an "introductory offer" I dread to think what they're going to be charging next time! It is not updated frequently enough and this week still featured at least one restaurant that sadly closed months ago. It is incredibly slow in use. It also offers a method for redeeming member perks that appeared not to work at all when at the restaurant in question yesterday. C’mon folks, this is embarassing. Put some work in, or don't have an app. ### 1/5 — Furious *2025-07-24, version 1.7.0* I have only just downloaded the app and paid for a year’s membership to discover that this app is just one hundred percent inefficient. It has taken 2 hours of my time, attached an incorrect email to my google account, forced me to creat passwords over and over again, refused to open, and tried to force me to download a typeface!! Strictly amateur production. Feels chaotic and insecure. Have yet to successfully negotiate within the app. What a pity. The newsletter is very interesting which encouraged me to join. My most recent attempt was to find a vegetarian restaurant; the guide offered one - in the entire country! ### 1/5 — Stopped working recently *2025-04-20, version 1.5.0* I have supported this app since it started but just recently all email links and these within the app just brings up a list of local bakeries. This of course renders it close to useless for regular use. This started happening in the last few weeks so can’t be related to the app version as it hasn’t been updated in months. It is a pity and TBH it won’t be losing before I cancel any subscription I have to it. ### 1/5 — ‘Bad’ doesn’t cover it *2024-12-03, version 1.5.0* > This app is utterly horrendous - it feels like it has been ‘done on the cheap’ with developers that evidently don’t ‘use’ the app beyond basic testing. It’s buggy, slow, just generally annoying to use. I paid £1 for 6 months during Black Friday, cancelled renewal within 5 minutes - I’ll give it 6 months to improve and will perhaps reconsider, but I’m not holding out much hope. Releasing an app in this state is nothing short of damaging to your brand - it’s quite laughable that anyone actually approved this to be released. It’s like you all thought ‘that’ll do’ - but I’m afraid it won’t. I may not always agree with it but find it is very useful app to have and use as required ### 5/5 — Excellent well researched content *2023-03-04, version 1.1.5* Content of this calibre is unavailable elsewhere. The good food guide is devoid of bias and hype and caters to all tastes and wallets. Truly underrated in the sphere of hospitality media. ### 5/5 — Excellent App; Constantly Being Improved *2022-08-24, version 1.1.4* I subscribed to the App as soon as it was launched. The reviews are excellent and are constantly being updated and new restaurants added. There are still a lot of top restaurants for the reviewers to visit but approximately 50 are added every fortnight. Since the launch I have eaten at a number of the restaurants including six in Norfolk last week. I can confirm that the reviews are very accurate and ensured that we had a top quality meal every night of our holiday. The only improvement I could suggest would be that the search function could show the restaurants closest to a place name e.g. a search for Hunstanton returns no restaurants whereas a search for Norfolk or North Norfolk will show several close by. The App is highly recommended and pays for itself very quickly. No one wants to have a disappointing meal particularly if it is for a special occasion! With the App being constantly updated new restaurants can be highlighted to subscribers immediately rather than having to wait for the next printed version of the guide. ### 5/5 — Great guide for the food lover *2022-08-17, version 1.1.4* Great guide, with a constant update of restaurants almost weekly! ### 5/5 — Wonderful to see the Good Food Guide return *2022-06-21, version 1.1.4* A much improved guide with all of the advantages of digital delivery. Layout is clear and very useful. ### 4/5 — Hanging in there *2023-02-20, version 1.1.5* I gave the GFG a four star review when it was still very young, because I felt it was worth crowd-funding it. Now, I think it’s still worth four stars, but that’s partly because I can’t think of any app that does the job better. I’ve still got grumbles, though. The editorial content from the weekly newsletters ought to be available to subscribers through the app. Coverage is still patchy. And I really, really dislike the recently added ‘Local Gems’ category. ‘Local’ is meaningless. And if a restaurant is not categorised as ‘World Class’, ‘Exceptional’, ‘Very Good’ or ‘Good’, then what on earth is a ‘Gem’? Is the category just a dumping ground for places that are ‘Not Good’, or that have been recommended by the owners’ mates but not been visited by an inspector? It feels a bit slapdash. ### 3/5 — Search function could be better *2022-07-13, version 1.1.4* If You search e.g. East Sussex, you get listed restaurants in East Sussex plus every listed restaurant that includes the word “east”. Can you please restrict the search function to find only the combination of words specified. It would also be useful to be able to call up new listings added after a specified date. ### 3/5 — Content good, logon clunky *2022-06-13, version 1.1.3* Like the look of the reviews and the way the restaurants show at the bottom of the map. Useful that the selected pin then moves the restaurant to the top of the list. The new iPad unlock will be useful, but in the new release all I can see is a blank page when the app starts. The saving of the logon credentials is essential - what about logon via FaceId or TouchID?? ### 2/5 — This app needs major improvements *2024-04-01, version 1.2.0* The move to an app from a website has unfortunately not paid off for The Good Food Guide. The app is challenging to use, frequently freezing and unresponsive, even on the latest iPhones. For a paid subscription, the expectation is a smooth, user-friendly experience, but it falls short. Unlike its counterparts like the Michelin Guide app, which is intuitive and reliable, The Good Food Guide app struggles with basic functionality. Issues like the cumbersome in-app browser, which lacks autofill for booking restaurants, exacerbate the problem. Considering the cost and the potential for an on-the-go guide to enhance spontaneous dining experiences, this app disappoints. It needs significant improvements to justify its yearly fee and compete effectively in the market. ### 2/5 — Not enough meat *2023-10-05, version 1.1.5* I have every copy of the book from 1990 to the end of publication. I use many apps and wanted to like the new incarnation, but it is disappointing. The main issue is the small number of restaurants included, especially since it is significantly more expensive than the book. Maybe that will improve. The new rating system is weird and mealy mouthed. Uniqueness - who cares? Many places that are not unique are excellent and many places are uniquely awful. Deliciousness - the plain English is food. Warmth - the plain English is service.
