### 3/5 — Ok app, bad offline

*2026-07-28*

Great content and I always look forward to receiving the new issue. But the app leaves a bit to be desired. Usually some lag to load the pages and the read offline option is pretty pointless as even once downloaded you need WiFi or signal to read it. App can be improved a lot.

### 2/5 — Constantly shutting down and so slow

*2024-08-11*

The recipes and magazine are great on the whole. However, the app is extremely frustrating to use- the pages take ages to load even when connected to WiFi. The bookmarked pages don’t show and the app constantly crashes, shuts itself down. When you return to the App, you have to reload the magazine manually to continue reading, which is frustrating and time consuming.

### 1/5 — Waste of Money

*2024-07-25, version 8.7.1*

I’ve used for a long time but recently cancelled my subscription. App won’t load issues and sticks on a blank screen. I’m using a new iPad so no excuse. Customer service is absolutely diabolical to deal with, the last attempt when I contacted them the woman yawned on the phone. The code they gave me to reinstate my previous purchases didn’t work and when I tried to contact them again I was ignored. Save yourself the grief and spend your money elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Robbery

*2024-07-14*

Robbed of £5.99 to buy one issue, on reading issue I then can’t access half the recipes without a paywall popping up inviting me to “complete your collection” for £50! Sorry, I’ve paid for my issue - not half of it that I then apparently have to pay 10x as much again to access?! Shocking and unacceptable. Never ever buying an issue again.

### 1/5 — Bloody awful.

*2024-07-10, version 8.7.1*

App is terrible to navigate, frequently unable to scroll down the page to see the actual recipe and each update is worse than the last

### 1/5 — Such a terrible app

*2024-06-21*

God you need to do something about this. The app is so laggy and slow and I appear to not be able to scroll through a recipe until the app has been open for at least 5minutes. If you expect people to pay for these things they should at least bloody work.

### 2/5 — Good recipes, pity about the performance

*2024-05-24*

The recipes in Good Food are inspiring and reliable, BUT the performance of the app is woeful. Pages take seconds to load, the app doesn’t remember where you were so you have to reopen the page every time. It all makes it really painful to browse through when planning meals and frustrating when you just want to check the ingredients before shopping or getting something out of the freezer. Bought a new iPad this year as performance on my old one was so unbearably bad, but even so it’s abominably slow.

### 1/5 — Really slow!!

*2024-05-19, version 8.7.1*

I’ve had this for years. I’ve re booted it and honestly it is driving me mad! It takes for ever to load, it then sticks so you can’t view the articule or recipe and impossible to find anything

### 1/5 — Very poor replacement for physical magazine

*2024-04-19*

I have been a subscriber to the physical magazine for many years and decided to switch to the digital version this year to be more environmentally friendly. However I have found it very frustrating and have cancelled my subscription.
It is extremely difficult to navigate. You cannot see a whole page at once and need to scroll up and down, which often does not work, with constant sticking. You must then go back to the top to get to the next page, and then scroll again to see the rest of the page.
It is also not possible to print a page or download it, which I expected to be one of the chief benefits of a digital version, and this makes it very difficult to use recipes effectively.
Very disappointed with this app in place of the physical version.

### 2/5 — Not very user friendly

*2024-03-28, version 8.7.1*

I’m a very tech savvy person but found this app incredibly frustrating to use. It’s not personable at all and leaves you feeling confused as to whether you’re using it right.

### 2/5 — Keeps losing my subscription books

*2024-03-15, version 8.7*

Just keeps losing books I’ve paid for

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2024-02-01*

I cancelled my subscription at the end of 2022 because I got fed up of how buggy and slow the app is. Someone bought me a subscription for Christmas though so I’m back again it’s just as bad if not worse. I’d recommend looking at the other food mag apps before spending your money on the good food subscription.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2023-07-27, version 8.3*

Poor app , great magazine, it is unfortunate. I subscribed since 2018 on kindle through Amazon, which is no longer supported. Tried this through immediate media , another terrible service! No choice but to cancel

### 2/5 — Content great. App horrible

*2023-02-05*

I’ve had this since 2013 and rely on it as my go to for healthy eating and planning menus.

There are great recipes with full nutritional information (that’s why you fail NYT cooking).

A nice mix of quick and easy along with longer cooking times for someone who works, but does all the cooking.

The app, however, is abominable. Pages, even on a downloaded issue, load so slow. Before the page loads, swiping left and right works, but nothing else, so you end up going to a different recipe instead of scrolling down to the one you wanted. 21 seconds from tap to loaded? Are you joking?

Bookmarks from the previous version are gone. Stop doing this.

Only the content from the most recent “upgrade” is searchable - which is also abysmally slow.

Bookmarks used to be sorted by when you added the page. This meant I could go back to my bookmarks, unflag and reflag to pop a recipe to the top. Very helpful in menu planning for the week and seeing what I haven’t made in awhile.

Bookmarks page will sometimes not load with just an error.

Most of my library is now digital screen shots. This increases the time it takes to find a recipe in the bookmarks.

Didn’t need a dark mode

Features needed:
Elastic search that uses tags like the categories in instant recipe finder. I don’t want every recipe that mentions rice when trying to make stir-fry rice.

Print recipe. If I’m cooking a big meal, switching recipes is a pain. Printing screen shots is a waste because of the layout.

Recipe feedback. There are recipes which have errors like missing the ingredients. December 2022, warm winter bean salad. Other recipes list an ingredient but don’t use it in the instructions.

Shopping list (used to have this)

Unit converter. The old issues have metric and English units.

**Developer response:** Thank you for getting in touch. Apologies you're having trouble with your App, if you would get in touch via this form https://www.immediateapps.co.uk/digital-contact-form/ we can troubleshoot this issue. Many thanks

### 1/5 — Robbing gits with no help to unsubscribe.

*2023-02-02*

Just the worst customer service. If you’ve put purchased through apple then you won’t have any help to unsubscribe.
Apart from the app being unusable I also have to continue paying £40 a year for the privilege.
Customer service initially tried to assist then what they thought was their final attempt of help closed my complaint off and now I have to start the process again.
I’m computer savvy and yet it’s impossible to cancel, even they can’t do it!
Stay well clear!

### 2/5 — App is not intuitive

*2023-01-28, version 8.2*

No logic to how the app is organised

### 2/5 — Issue with voice over

*2023-01-27, version 8.2*

I used voice over to read because I am visually impaired and for some reason it is not in English even when the settings are set to English

### 1/5 — Not received my on line magazine

*2023-01-04, version 8.0*

Am absolutely fed up with this company, renewed my subscription in October, November edition 5 days late, not yet received January edition of good food magazine.
Tried in app contact, no one can find my subscription, yet you took my money !
Sort it out please, or refund my subscription

### 1/5 — Terrible & Frustrating!

*2022-12-30*

I used to love reading my digital version of the magazine but sadly no longer. I can no longer read from left to right as if reading the actual magazine, instead I have to scroll down each page now. The app is slow and not very responsive making the whole experience extremely frustrating. I won’t be renewing my subscription which is a shame as the printed version isn’t available in my country of residence.

**Developer response:** Thank you for getting in touch. Apologies you're having trouble using your App, if you would get in touch via this form https://www.immediateapps.co.uk/digital-contact-form/ we can try and help with this issue. Many thanks

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2022-12-05, version 8.0*

Why should I subscribe to this app, as well as paying for a subscription to the paper magazine? Surely one subscription should cover both?
Mind you, reading the reviews, the app probably ain’t worth having any way!

I love the beeb. Why go in for tactics like this?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Used to be good…

*2026-04-05*

Not fit for purpose now. For some reason the developers decided to treat it like a scroll feast - the problem is it is difficult to scroll down so more often than not I can’t actually see anything other than the top of a page. Really disappointed as this once upon a time was one of my favourite apps. GF should learn something from the remaining digitised food magazines and lay it out like a magazine again.

### 1/5 — Currently if I could give you minus Stars I would!

*2026-03-29, version 8.7.2*

1st love my BBC GGOD FOOD Magazine app when it works!
HOWEVER I am forever having to restore purchases.
Today it got worse! Why? Simple because I had to login what happened next was that I was told I don’t have a subscription; so I checked my subscriptions and found that I have a subscription that renews next March! So maybe someone could sort this app out.
Yet again I’m having issues with thi app! It’s the same thing every time I renew my subscription it is very very frustrating

### 1/5 — Recipes unobtainable

*2026-02-16, version 8.7.2*

The app shows lots of adverts, smiley people, recipe ingredients, but not the methods for cooking the dishes. This app has always seemed very bells and whistles but lacking substance. It is so useless and clunky, IMO: it seems money for old rope and I would not recommend it.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2025-06-27*

Terrible app. Takes ages to download and impossible to scroll. What a shame! Will cancel

**Developer response:** Hi kado sunbear,

We're sorry to hear you are having problems. We will look into it and see if there is anything we need to fix. please try deleting and reinstalling the app in the meantime. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever

*2025-05-21, version 8.7.2*

I have a subscription to Good Food but this app constantly refuses to acknowledge it. Sometimes it does but even then the app tries to get you to buy extra books and things and if you don’t it won’t let you continue.

### 1/5 — Poor app,sadly spoils top magazine

*2025-01-11, version 8.7.2*

Won’t be renewing my subscription ,takes too long for the page to open and allow you to scroll down ,even after you have downloaded, previously I had my subscription from Amazon and it all worked perfectly,so why is this version so poor??

### 1/5 — Please make this app usable

*2024-12-16, version 8.7.2*

You need to sort this app out. After a couple of years of not being able to enjoy magazines due to app lagging, freezing and crashing all the time I have cancelled my subscription.

### 1/5 — Absolutely rubbish app

*2024-11-05, version 8.7.2*

If I could give zero stars I would. Hangs all the time and I have a new iPad. Delicious magazine app works perfectly

### 1/5 — Very slow

*2024-10-24*

I find this app very frustrating. Takes forever to open a recipe on iPad, I’m using a brand new one. Works very well on iPhone but I’ve downloaded all my back issues, about ten years worth, on the iPad so want to keep using it. Bookmarks are also unpredictable to load and access recipes. Content is excellent, just let down by poor app.

### 1/5 — Not a good layout

*2024-10-15*

Not happy

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best ever mag!

*2020-08-16, version 5.6.1*

I have subscribed to numerous magazines over the years, including the BBC’s Music and History publications, and while I have generally enjoyed them all, the BBC Good Food Magazine is head and shoulders above the rest, in terms of quality and quantity of content. In fact, because I love to write out the recipes I want to try, I sometimes find myself wishing that there weren’t so many wonderful recipes to try!

### 5/5 — Rubbish

*2019-12-04*

Cannot download back issue I have paid for because there are no issues showing in the library

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear you are having problems. We will look into it and see if there is anything we need to fix. please try deleting and reinstalling the app in the meantime. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

*2014-03-09, version 1.6.2*

Love the ability to bookmark and search on tagged recipes

### 5/5 — Exquisite

*2014-03-06*

This magazine is proof that the British do know how to cook good food. I was introduced to Good Food back in 1991, after being transferred to the uk for business. At that time they didn't have subscriptions but I could have it delivered by my local news agent. When we returned to Canada I had to have all of my saved copies of my favorite magazine return too. I have always kept them because I refer to them whenever I'm looking for a particular British recipe. Then I was gifted an iPad and looking up recipes is so much easier, I wouldn't be without my copies both hard copy and digital. (I must admit that I do go to my local book store and buy the occasional 'good Food', hard copy.
