### 3/5 — Recent Issue

*2026-07-28, version 1.0.23*

I used to be a daily player until about a week ago. The app no longer loads past the loading screen, and remains black. Really missing the daily puzzles.

### 4/5 — Please move hint button

*2026-07-18, version 1.0.23*

Great Sudoku app, but please move the Hint button. I’ve accidentally hit it numerous times when trying to tap the red slash button instead. It’s disappointing when trying to complete the puzzles without using Hint until I absolutely have to resort to using it.

### 4/5 — Problem writing numbers

*2026-06-23, version 1.0.23*

I am trying this app & started playing daily and could not get number
to go into the cell from the bloc of numbers

### 4/5 — Almost great

*2026-05-27, version 1.0.23*

Mostly wonderful app, but (1) the most difficult techniques are taught in a very confusing way, and (2) many techniques rely on knowing what was or wasn’t pre-filled on the board, but there’s no way to tell once you’ve started the game. There should be a different font for items we’ve filled vs items that came pre-filled. Would be a very easy fix.

### 4/5 — Save and quit bug?

*2026-05-16, version 1.0.23*

App is great but there appears to be a bug whenever I use the ‘save and quit’ option as the app keeps shutting down and I have to restart the puzzle

### 4/5 — It’s the little things

*2026-05-13, version 1.0.23*

The broad strokes and overall experience is great, but when it comes to both the best and the worst of this app, it’s all in the details.

I love that it detects if you’ve got music or other content playing in the background when you open it, and mutes the in-game music if you are. I love the sound design that makes it so satisfying to clear out the last of a puzzle in one long chain. I love the practice modes for specific techniques.

But I don’t like how opaque the scoring system is. I don’t like how eternal mode doesn’t give you a button to return to home after finishing a puzzle. I don’t like how the eternal mode puzzles can vary so much in difficulty without warning, such that how well you do is incredibly luck based.

And I wish there was support for sudoku variants like sandwich, thermo, and arrow. I wish the training was more extensive. I wish arcade mode could somehow be a little more intelligent about letting you correct legitimate typos without so heavily penalising it as a mistake. I wish it wasn’t so laggy when you first open it and I wish the music didn’t double up sometimes.

But overall, it’s a good sudoku app. Which is exactly what it set out to be.

### 4/5 — Best current Sudoku app I can find, by far

*2026-04-23, version 1.0.23*

Since Sudoku 401 stopped being updated for new iOS versions, I’ve looked for a replacement in vain, using a clumsy non-mobile-friendly web app whenever I wanted to solve a Sudoku.

Until now.

This game has actual challenging puzzles that require nontrivial techniques, and tools nicely designed to help you apply those techniques. It looks nice, and has a UI that seems to have been designed for mobile, and for extensive use. And it even has some nice uncommon UX, like a way to quickly rewind to before you made it unsolvable. While it has some unnecessary gamification, there’s not enough to get in the way. I haven’t gotten too far into the tutorial or the hint system, but what I’ve seen so far looks great.

Still, as unfair as it is to compare this to a game you can no longer even play (that also benefited from years of me getting used to its quirks), it doesn’t make me stop missing 401.

The biggest problem is that the UI is significantly busier, making it harder for the stuff you care about to jump out at you. Most notably, you rarely care about the difference between a 1-3-8 and a 1-3-red4-8, but that red crossed-out 4 is highly visible, preventing you from noticing that it’s one of three 1-3-8s.

Also, the auto-complete is weird, the way it jumps in as soon as you pause (with singles to be automated) but then stops after doing a single block. On a mobile app, you want even more automation than a PC or web app once you’ve done all the challenging bits (or once you’ve done one challenging bit and want to fast-forward to the next); 401 wasn’t as good at this as some of the desktop apps, but this one seems to be even less so.

### 2/5 — Constant crash

*2026-04-22, version 1.0.23*

I’m mostly just playing good mode, impossible - core. I’m at around 400 games, and now every game would crash at some point, whether is saving, winning, or swiping down to adjust screen brightness. Most of the time no progress is saved and I have to start over. This doesn’t happen as frequently in other modes. Is it a memory management issue b/c I have too many unfinished/finished games?

### 2/5 — Bug fix

*2026-03-05, version 1.0.23*

Lots of crashes.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2026-02-23, version 1.0.23*

There is an issue with auto note. Some numbers sometimes are not show. Like I see that 8 is only available in a single spot, but it’s wrong. 2nd one just has no annotation. Also issue with hints, very often they quite useless.

### 4/5 — Macht Laune

*2026-01-21*

Macht Laune und gibt gute Tipps um auch andere Sudokus lösen zu können. Das nicht automatisch via iCloud zwischen iPhone und iPad synchronisiert werde kann ist sehr nervig.

### 4/5 — Great game, but lacks iCloud auto save

*2026-01-19, version 1.0.23*

I really enjoy playing it, but to play in more than one device you need to manually sync with iCloud. It is a hassle to remember this.

### 4/5 — Best sudoku so far, but with some issues

*2026-01-17, version 1.0.23*

This is the best sudoku game I’ve played so far, especially the learning part, I can actually learn more complex skills and play really hard puzzles. However there are a few things I noticed:
1. There seems to be conflicts with the techniques. Especially there have been flippable boards, basically two numbers occupy the corners of a square. And using techniques to avoid flippable boards will lead me to a wrong solution. Quite frustrating. I think one other time using X wing also led me to issues. Would like to know why.
2. Something when I try to click on the “remove note” button, I would accidentally click on the hint as they sit very close to each other. Maybe from a UI/UX standpoint, moving the hint far enough away from other functional buttons would better.

### 4/5 — Can’t disable hints?

*2026-01-16, version 1.0.23*

Good app, but it seems odd to not allow us to disable the hints as we progress. Wouldn’t you rather keep the users who seek a challenge than push them towards another app?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Color schemes not ADA complaint

*2026-07-30, version 1.0.23*

The color choices in places are very low contrast light blue text on light green background (might have been reverse). Could not figure how to progress in note taking tutorial. Need an option to turn off the various colors put into cell background or explain them. Very frustrating to play.

### 1/5 — Game crashes

*2026-06-28*

Game crashes after each game

### 1/5 — Gives away the answers

*2026-06-27, version 1.0.23*

Removes the thought from the puzzle. Click on a box and it tells you what numbers are available and removes all thought from the game and over simplifies the puzzles.

### 1/5 — Casual Players Punished

*2026-06-15, version 1.0.23*

It’s insulting that I’m periodically reduced to beginner just because I have a life and can’t always finish puzzles. It will literally let you advance to expert and then demote you to beginner if you go a few days too busy to play. This is terrible design.

### 1/5 — Bad game

*2026-05-12, version 1.0.23*

Stopped my game and said the puzzle was unsolvable when it was clearly easy to solve.

### 1/5 — Unplayable

*2026-04-20, version 1.0.23*

Low contrast makes it impossible to play for more than a couple of minutes.

### 1/5 — Developers out to lunch

*2026-02-14, version 1.0.23*

Signed up for Apple Arcade just to play this game, which was only necessary because the non-Apple Arcade version I paid full price for was bricked over summer 2025.

Played for a couple months and it worked fine, but over the past week or so the daily results have just stopped syncing with Game Center.

App hasn’t had an update in years. Unclear why the developers won’t give it the time of day, or why Apple allows an effectively defunct product to remain part of their subscription game service.

### 1/5 — Niegrywalna

*2026-02-06, version 1.0.23*

Gra uniemożliwia granie. Nie można wprowadzać cyfr w okienka pomimo kilkukrotnego klikania. O co tu chodzi?

### 1/5 — Not work

*2026-02-05, version 1.0.23*

Not work

### 1/5 — Not great

*2026-01-20, version 1.0.23*

I’ve been trying to configure the settings that would work, but the app does the work for me, thus taking the fun out of the game

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Guest sudoku app

*2026-06-17, version 1.0.23*

It’s great, get it.

However, the HINT button is too close to the others, which makes it easy to occasionally misclick and use a hint when you don’t mean to.

### 5/5 — GOAT Sudoku

*2026-05-27, version 1.0.23*

I love coming back to this game over and over throughout the years! It’s always such a pleasure! The last update was four years ago so I’m not holding my breath BUT it would be nice to add a game mode that advances the difficulty after several games. Like start out beginner eternal and work your way up. Either way! Beautifully made game!

### 5/5 — 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊

*2026-02-27, version 1.0.23*

Very good sudoku game I like it

### 5/5 — Color contrast is really hard to see. Especially in dark mode or if you are colorblind

*2026-01-20, version 1.0.23*

At night in dark mode I literally can’t see the lines between the boxes. Can you make them lighter? Some text is very hard to read with poor contrast or being very thin. I wish there was a black and white mode or high contrast. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Great guidance to learn sudoku

*2026-01-02, version 1.0.23*

This app really help me to learn how to solve hard sudoku with note taking method and it helps a lot for me to recognize the pattern. This app is very recommended for anyone who want to learn sudoku or loves sudoku but struggling with the hard one :)

### 5/5 — Worst sudoku ever

*2025-12-30, version 1.0.23*

The puzzles are ment to be hard not the interface

### 5/5 — Good but needs work

*2025-11-23, version 1.0.23*

If you’re looking at this before buying, it is a really good app and I enjoy it!! There are some quirks, but this is a very thoughtfully designed app that makes me smile. If you are a beginner to sudoku or have played for years, you will enjoy it. I have actually learned a few tips and tricks (and learned names for all my old ones! 😉) this is like sudoku nerd heaven, and the design language within the app is lovely. Very easy to use.

Okay now for the devs, my feedback: I wish there was a way to just say “ok” or “skip” on hints that wouldn’t force me to mark it that way. I use limited notes and only use one color. Some hints force you to add the notes to your box. I get the app won’t know what you know in your head without you marking it, but if I didn’t write that number in my box, I KNOW that number can’t go there. I don’t need it X’d out because it throws off my notes, personally. I wish I could just say “I don’t need to mark it, just show a different hint now” as an option in addition to the “show me”

Also, I think that the difficulty levels are vastly overstated. The “pro” and “impossible” levels seem just like a normal “hard” and “extra hard” level in most books or apps I’ve played. Impossible is a fun challenge, but to say “these are much harder than any puzzle you’ll see in most sudoku apps” is really kind of crazy.

ALSO there is a bug where sometimes I will have to manually reselect the notes mode for each number. Sometimes I can enter multiple numbers without deselecting notes mode. It’s confusing and then sometimes I’ll put a “real” number and not a note number. When this happens most frequently is when there is no instance of that number already on the board, it will keep flipping back to “normal” mode

thanks!

### 5/5 — 真的很好玩

*2025-11-16, version 1.0.23*

每天都玩，最喜欢的数独

### 5/5 — Best sudoku app out there

*2025-10-21, version 1.0.23*

The interface is great, very minimalist and sleek. I like that it teaches the techniques. Only issue I have is with visibility- when I play at night the contrast on the app is too low, especially in dark mode so I can't use it.

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2025-08-25, version 1.0.23*

Seriously, you won’t find anything like this with so many features and guides of basic to advanced techniques!
I actually like that notes get removed automatically once you find the correct number on a given cell (it’s super intuitive)
