### 3/5 — Can’t find the right fish

*2022-08-06*

Good app to have in the phone when shopping for fish. But half the fish listings in the local fish’n’chip shops or markets don’t match the fish names here. Probably an issue for government to enforce standardised naming but would be great if the app could help to clear up confusion. What is “butterfish” or “couta”? Wish I knew!

### 3/5 — Need to get production credentials for Google Maps

*2021-12-12*

Currently the sustainable restaurant mapping function does not work properly as development only Google credentials are being used.

### 4/5 — Restaurant section

*2020-02-29*

Restaurant section does not open. The rest of the information is great though. Very helpful

### 3/5 — Thank you! Would love to see further development..

*2019-09-25*

This is good for education of consumers, so glad to have it and would love to see it develop! Consumers would love to buy sustainable fish types, but often the best sustainable fish listed here are hard to buy/find. I know it would mean an addition to this app, but it would be great if there was a fish retailers map for retailers to post/ update availability of these fish types. This could be a small revenue opportunity for the Conservation society and an excellent help to coops and consumers.... & ocean fish stocks need this. I only eat fish once a week, but a suggested maximum sustainable consumption rate/week on fish types might also be useful. Please consider making these connections, make partnerships, educate, give opportunity to both sides of demand & supply 😁🤞🏽

### 3/5 — Bug in the system

*2019-06-08*

Have used in the past and it has been seen less and extremely useful. Can only run one query and then have to close and re open before can search again. Navigation buttons not working. Thanks for useful app. Hope bugs can be fixed.

### 2/5 — Unresponsive

*2019-04-11*

Awesome content but this app barely works. The back button is unresponsive. Words in the search bar on the results page are invisible. Half the time the home window search bar doesn’t allow you to insert text. It says it was updated a few days ago - am I missing something?

### 3/5 — Still some bugs

*2018-10-24*

App freezes after a selected fish is found. Great idea though. Any chance of actual brands being assessed, e.g. King Oscar sardines?

### 4/5 — Very good initiative

*2017-12-11*

App is easy to use, hope many people refer to it when buying seafood

### 4/5 — Try it

*2017-08-08*

Interesting information. Most helpful when making choices buying seafood.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2015-11-03, version 2.5*

Thanks for this handy app that makes understanding the depletion of fish stocks and good substitutes so easy.

It is a constant companion at fish markets and shops. I'd love to see it publicised on Australian food progams.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2015-07-19, version 2.4*

Good to know what's ocean friendly and what should've been left at sea in the chip shop.

### 5/5 — Very useful!

*2015-03-25, version 2.3*

An app for palm oil would be great!

### 5/5 — Yes!!

*2014-11-14, version 2.2*

Finally a solution to FSAS (Fish Shop Anxiety Syndrome)!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not working

*2026-07-26*

After installing it goes off every time I try to start it. Using iOS 26.5.2 (latest).
It was the same problem when I tried to use it months ago.

### 1/5 — There’s no such thing as sustainable fishing

*2021-04-05*

It’s impossible to police our oceans and the fishing industry is driving them to extinction including massively contributing to ocean plastic. If like me, you care about eating sustainability, the only way to do this with seafood is to massively reduce or abstain. Watch Seaspiracy

### 1/5 — Buttons don’t work

*2019-06-10*

I tried to use this app on an iPhone 8 but all the buttons I clicked on went to the wrong pages and the back buttons didn’t work at all. Unusable.

### 1/5 — EULA

*2015-02-03, version 2.3*

You lost me at the opening screen. What a ridiculous requirement, to sign an EULA with contact details before I can see which fish you think I should avoid...

Deleted.

### 1/5 — T&C

*2014-12-31, version 2.3*

Why would you want to collect email addresses before users can even see any content?

### 1/5 — Completely Inaccurate

*2014-11-13, version 2.2*

This app is completely inaccurate and I would love to know where they get their information from. Totally contradicts scientists, WWF, Greenpeace, etc. Should be reviewed with proper research.

### 1/5 — This Clock Struck Thirteen

*2011-12-08, version 1.0*

The "Say No: Overfished in western VIC and in SA's Northern fishing zone" leads consumers to think that all lobster fisheries are in the same boat. The AMBER warning and this confusing text above do not apply to WA fisheries. The Western Australian rock lobster fishery was the very FIRST fishery in the entire world to be certified by MSC, the preeminent independent global body for certification of sustainability in fisheries. The fishery has been certified TWICE by MSC. So why does AMCS ignore this scientific accreditation and slam the industry on National TV and in this guide. Sorry, but this clock cant tell the right time. Dont trust it.

### 1/5 — Biased and negative

*2011-09-22, version 1.0*

It doesn't seem to endorse any fish variety - it has something negative to say about all choices. It also makes claims that are nebulous and unsupported by real research. It seems to be little more than the opinion of extremely biased naysayers. A waste of time. Look to your menu for choices, not this app.

### 2/5 — Great concept, terrible app design

*2019-04-18*

There’s great info in here but the app is almost unworkable. You can run one search, but then it won’t open the result that you tap on, and the only way to run another search is to kill the app and start again. Would love to be able to use this when shopping, but unfortunately it’s just too unwieldy...

### 2/5 — A for effort, F for execution

*2019-04-12, version 2.86*

Great idea but the app freezes and is clunky to navigate, needs a bit of work and it will be good.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — All Aussies should have this

*2022-10-08*

Such a useful guide when at store or fish market.. there is a clear lack of sustainability labelling or even sourcing in Australia. Very helpful!

### 5/5 — Great and educational

*2021-05-20, version 3.1*

The app is great it can help guide our future but there is still lots more to do the one thing when I look up shark fin soup nothing comes up it has limited names for shark flake is the only one add more types of code names but overall 10/10

### 5/5 — Love app - would like shops included too!

*2020-09-01*

Love the app! Would be great if in addition to listing sustainable seafood restaurants, it also listed sustainable shops to buy seafood from for home. Please consider adding this list!! Loving the app, so good to have the info needed to eat seafood ethically, thank you!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2020-06-23*

Great app. It seems like some kinds of fish that I used to look at in the sustainable fishing guide are more a more sustainable situation now than they were a few years ago, so great job to the developers of this app, and also to those involved in the industry who are responding to sustainability challenges. Keep up the good work and let’s try to push more of the species into the amber and green categories.

### 5/5 — Information informs choice

*2019-12-30*

We all need to be able to make decisions aligned to our values and as the environment and how our food is produced becomes more important to more us, this app is great resource for people that want to eat sea food sustainably. Thank you to the Australian marine conservation society. Please let’s see other agriculture and livestock farming groups do similar things!

### 5/5 — Easier and so helpful

*2019-11-14*

The new refresh is much easier to use! And I love the new restaurant search function. Keep up the good work AMCS!

### 5/5 — Wonderful sea saving app

*2019-08-10*

Now we can choose seafood in confidence & help our friends do the same. This is a welcome functional tool. Well done

### 5/5 — Swipe R to get app menu

*2019-06-09*

There was a complaint about back button not working. Try swipe right

### 5/5 — Great Info

*2017-11-08, version 2.7*

All credit to the app developers. A noble endeavour.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2015-12-08, version 2.5*

This is a great app and easy to use. Thanks now we can make informed choices.
