## Newest reviews (18 of 781)

### 3/5 — Still good but

*2026-08-19, version 5.121*

Pretty nice way to see multiple news stories in one place but it seems Google has removed the option to hide/block sources

### 2/5 — There is no audio

*2026-08-02, version 5.120*

There needs to be audio on the apps so if you have a vision problem, you can hear it versus reading every It’s not a problem, but it should have audio built-in These app apps do not have audio built-in if someone can direct me to it I will be grateful

### 4/5 — Still leans too far left

*2026-07-21, version 5.120*

Still believe most of the news stories are leaning too far left. But it does have two good points that makes me use it every day. First, you can actually hide news stories from people you don’t want to see for whatever reason, that is a good thing. Second, the “follow” section makes it easy to follow topics that you want to see. I really like that section and use it a lot. Thank you for it. As far as the ads are concerned, they’re gonna be there. I really nothing you can do about it.

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2026-07-21, version 5.120*

Articles with lots of ads and pop-ups will crash the app over 50% of the time. This has been a long term problem that I’ve hoped they would improve but they never do. Otherwise I love the app.

### 1/5 — Constant lockouts

*2026-07-07, version 5.119*

Been using google news for a long time. It’s honestly a good source for headlines but the use stops there. Yes some articles are free and others cost money which is understandable. What isn’t understandable is why when you do hit a paywall your entire app is locked down. You can’t go back. You have to close the app. I don’t believe an app should be allowed to lock your phone down like that into a pay trap - I won’t call it a paywall because you can turn back from a wall.

Also the app is full of clickbait and advertising that hijacks your phone screen.

It would be easy for Google to fix this but money is more important to them and they will never do anything.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2026-07-07, version 5.119*

This app is horrible. Every time I click the thumbs down “fewer articles like this,” it puts an article in the down-rated article’s place that had the same headline, only from a different outlet.

### 1/5 — Very Buggy

*2026-07-06, version 5.119*

The app seems to have some pretty major bugs. I regularly will have the article I’m reading disappear half way through due to an unexpected error.

### 1/5 — Spoilers Galore

*2026-07-05, version 5.119*

God forbid I google two things about f1, this app literally constantly spoils race after race and movie and show after moving and show. It's like there is literally no filter over what notifications are allowed to be sent. So now i have to disable having the entire concept of news notify my of anything from my phone because google can't just allow you to not spoil things.....there is no setting to turn that off. This app is trash and old.

### 1/5 — Far left ad filled crash-app

*2026-07-04, version 5.119*

I don’t mind left, right and center articles, but this app pushes the far left agenda. Go figure. 90% of the news stories require a subscription to each and every different news outlet.
With all of the trackers on top of that, I’m deleting this app. Garbage.

### 1/5 — Awful. ZERO STARS.

*2026-07-02, version 5.119*

Rather than Google News, this app should be called Google Spam Advertising and Clickbait.
The “news” is hardly earth shaking, focusing on lost pets, favourite recipes and brands .
Real, global news….zilch. Nothing. Don’t waste your time on Google News. It’s not news, it’s puffery at best.

### 1/5 — Least reliable app on iPhone

*2026-07-02, version 5.119*

If you like being disappointed on a daily basis, this is the app for you. Clearly very little Google investment going on here otherwise the “There was an error displaying this content” problem would have been fixed years ago. Great at organizing all the world’s information; not so great at showing it.

### 3/5 — Useless!

*2026-06-28, version 5.119*

This used to be my "go to" news source. Now, almost every item of news has a paywall, and you have to go somewhere else to get even the basic facts. Also, there is more sports stories than anything else, and you can't filter out this worthless junk.

### 1/5 — A Very Google Product

*2026-06-27, version 5.119*

I spent more time closing ads in the news stories than actually reading them.

### 2/5 — Very limited

*2026-06-26, version 5.119*

The world news section is an embarrassment. Maybe 10 articles at most, that’s it. Other sections may have twice as much, but as far as world news goes, it’s a joke. This is Google, not a myopic high school news paper

### 2/5 — So many pop-ups that it’s not even worth using

*2026-06-23, version 5.119*

Between the paywalls on about 50 percent of the articles, and the multiple pop-ups that you keep closing, but keep popping back up again that prevents you from reading the articles it’s not even worth using.

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2026-06-19, version 5.119*

You get 1/3 of the way through an article, and it crashes. Almost every time.
Do better!

### 3/5 — My sports teams

*2026-06-17, version 5.119*

Since the last update Google news app is no longer showing my sports teams games and scores which really pisses me off. Please fix this problem immediately ❗❗❗❗

### 1/5 — choose why

*2026-06-17, version 5.119*

why

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very Poor

*2026-08-23, version 5.121*

Compared to your Chromebook or web site versions, this is absolute rubbish.

### 1/5 — Paywalls

*2026-08-14, version 5.121*

Very frustrating when half the articles you select to read are paywalled. Do they really expect that I’m going to have 25 different subscriptions just to read the news? They have turned this into a ridiculously useless app.

### 1/5 — Shoves right wing news down your throat

*2026-08-06, version 5.120*

Used to be able to filter away bad faith news sources like Fox News. Now Google’s algorithm shoves right wing fascist news down your throat.

### 1/5 — Locks up

*2026-08-01, version 5.120*

I had to delete this app. After clicking on a New York Times article it locked up and kept trying to force me to enter my email and sign in to Google which I didn’t want to do. No back arrow or way to close the window. I think their only goal is to collect meta-data from you. Which I understand but when they decide to force it on you, that’s where I draw the line. Do not instal this app.

### 1/5 — No option to remove pay walled source

*2026-07-28, version 5.120*

When it comes to social media and news there is apparently no money in allowing users to choose their own content and instead they choose deliver a never-ending stream of curated content. Google News doubles down on this and no longer allows me to remove pay walled sites or sources that I don’t like. The lack of control and choice is intentional and never going away.

### 1/5 — Most articles require paid access.

*2026-07-24, version 5.120*

Most articles require paid access. Such a waste.

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2026-07-23, version 5.120*

You get 1/3 of the way through an article, and it crashes. Almost every time.
Do better!

### 1/5 — now forces X to be in a news source

*2026-07-17, version 5.120*

No matter how you try. No matter how hard you look. No matter what you do. You can never get rid of X as a new source. It appears to be the only required new source for Google News and X gets to report, unverified, bogus, untruthful, rumors as legitimate news. Shame on Google. Shame on Google. Shame on Google.

### 1/5 — Thumbs down

*2026-07-12, version 5.119*

No really, thumbs down is the problem with this app. No matter how many times I click “suggest less” it keeps feeding me rugby, cricket, tennis and MMA stories. The algorithm appears to be impossible to train, rendering thr app useless.

Uninstalling after 1 day of frustration.

### 1/5 — Not current; not news

*2026-07-12, version 5.119*

Wikipedia is more current than Google News. I’m tired of a news feed that shows articles from days or weeks ago. C’mon Google!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Why ?

*2026-08-04, version 5.120*

Why install news on peoples phone that wanna charge us to view it ? Keep this bs to yourselves then

### 5/5 — Can we have Gemini?

*2026-06-18, version 5.119*

Can we finally have Gemini button like YouTube does? So we can summarize article without leaving the app, or share the url to other ai application

### 5/5 — Amazing News

*2026-03-22, version 5.115*

Google!

### 5/5 — BEST NEWS APP SINCE 2015. Great job GOOGLE🥰🥰🥰

*2025-12-25, version 5.112*

Love my Google news❤️❤️❤️

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-09-30, version 5.109*

The best for news. Google apps do everything right.

### 5/5 — Such a great app. Except for one thing. Need for smarter content screening

*2025-08-03, version 5.107*

I have been using Google News for a very long time. It is my go to. One of the reasons I choose to use it is the settings option to restrict content in my personal feed.

There are words and phrases and pictures that I find traumatic and triggering. Especially when they come out of the blue, in the middle of reading or watching sources I trust. So, having some control over choosing content is very important to me.

I am challenged when these types of content slip through. Sometimes directly in the title of the article; sometimes in the photo associated with the article title. I sincerely wish this was not so. Though, my therapist gets an income boost when it happens!!

### 5/5 — Lost "Headlines" on Update

*2025-06-13, version 5.106*

6-11-25 Google News App Update took place. Today 6-12-25 "HEADLINES" has disappeared on the App. I went over my settings etc. Didn't correct the problem. Others have experienced it also as shown on GOOGLE COMMUNITY WEBSITE. What's up Google?
This is an update 11:34 pm 6-12-25. Looking several minutes ago, I see "Headlines" and other options are shown across the top of the website page not at the bottom as it was previously.

### 5/5 — The One Reason I Used Google News is Gone

*2025-06-12, version 5.106*

There was one reason I used Google News over other news app and that was the organization of main topic. Next to “For You” was a button that had news sources neatly arranged by subtopics; Top News, World, Business, Technology, etc.

You now have to go to Following and add those topics to follow similar to how Apple News does Favorites. The problem is that it is messy. There’s no real discernible order to this page. More importantly, if I wanted that type of setup I would’ve continued o use Apple News.

Hopefully this change can be reverted. But hey, I might be in the minority here and forced to find a different news app to use as my go-to.

### 5/5 — 100$

*2024-08-02, version 5.94*

100$

### 5/5 — Remove the search engine of the app

*2024-06-01, version 5.93*

For iPhone users this is king of annoying since it requiered to use the google search inside of an application. It would be much smoother if it’s only an application
