## What is GPS Camera 55. Field Survey?

Capture photos and videos with precise location, date, address, and custom notes overlaid directly on them. Add hand-drawn annotations to photos for quick markups in the field. Easily search and filter your shots by title, tags, or notes — or sort them by proximity and date. Organize everything into folders or collections for structured reporting. Need to work with older photos? Import from your library and restore their location, direction, and notes automatically.

LOCATION OVERLAY
Supports decimal, DM, DMS, UTM, and MGRS coordinate formats.
True or magnetic heading, in degrees or mils.
Accuracy and altitude in feet or meters.

CAMERA AND CAPTURE SETTINGS
Save photos automatically or open in preview to annotate before saving.
Option to save a copy to the photo library — original, stamped, or both.
Record location-aware field video with map, QR code, watermark, speed, and motion overlays, then replay recordings in the app. The basic version stores one video and exports a branded clip of up to 15 seconds.

ANNOTATE AND COMMENT
Before or after saving, zoom in/out and draw directly on the photo using your finger or Apple Pencil.
Crop, resize, rotate, or tilt the photo before or after saving.
Notes overlay supports Title, Note, Tags/Folder, and Address.
Address can be auto-filled from GPS or entered manually.
Edit notes and add annotations later (MENU > POINTS > tap an image).
Tapping a point row opens the editor, where you can add an audio note.
Timestamps support many formats and languages.
Scan QR codes, barcodes, or text and use the result for the title or note field.

WATERMARK
The Pro Pack upgrade removes the basic version watermark and allows you to set up a watermark with your own image, text, and colors, if needed.

SHARE AND EXCHANGE
Share multiple points via MENU > POINTS, or entire collections via MENU > POINT COLLECTIONS.
Images can be shared with or without location/notes text, and with or without overlays.
Photo filenames can include title, note, address, tags/folder name, collection, coordinates, altitude, heading, or capture date.
To transfer complete points and images to another device, use KMZ (Google Earth archive) — includes photos, notes, annotations, and audio.

PDF REPORTS
Generate and share PDF documents for the selected photos/points or whole collection/folder, with options for the number of images per page and photo descriptions.

ORGANIZE, SEARCH & SORT
You can organize images into collections/folders. Existing images/points can be moved between collections.
Search by notes, address, or tags; filter by creation month; sort by proximity; or show only one collection.

IMPORT
Import photos from your library. The app reads TIFF/EXIF/GPS/IPTC metadata to restore location, direction, and notes for the stamp.

NAVIGATE
Navigate back to any saved photo/point from its editor.

MAP VIEW
Review any saved photo/point and its location on the map.

== PRO PACK UPGRADE ==

You can do a lot with the basic functions in the app. The PRO PACK upgrade adds:

- Ability to create additional point/image collections.
- Enables sharing of more than 5 points/images at once.
- Export/import capabilities — in particular, KMZ export/import enables transfer of collections or selected waypoints between devices.
- Ability to save hand-drawn annotations for the image.
- Crop, resize, rotate, or tilt the photo before or after saving.
- Extra protection of your work and privacy with PIN code or biometric-based access options.
- Removes the basic version watermark and allows you to apply a custom watermark with your image, text, and colors.
- Unlimited saved videos and full-length stamped or original video exports.

### 3/5 — Teething problems sorted after help provided

*2026-08-24, version 5.2*

Paying for monthly service, but frustratingly was unable to take date- and geo-stamped photos on-site when points/coordinates had reached more than 100 photos, whilst away from internet connection. Support made contact to try and help. Have to delete these points before leaving the office in order to take more photos. This doesn’t delete the corresponding main photos already taken, thankfully.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 5.2 — 2026-08-20

■ Video recording, with location data built in
‣ Document inspections, surveys, sites, and observations with video that keeps its location data attached. When the work calls for movement, the same recorder is ready to capture the action without losing the field context.
‣ Need to preserve a specific detail? Take a location-aware photo while recording continues, then carry on with the survey.
‣ Open saved recordings from MENU > VIDEOS and return to the exact moment you need. If you missed or forgot to document an important place, use the photo shutter button during video replay to add that frame as a photo and point—with the location data from that moment.
‣ In replay, swipe to move quickly or slow down for frame-level precision, and see or change the active audio output.
◆ Choose the right microphone for every recording
‣ Choose Automatic, iPhone, Any external, Wired / USB, or Bluetooth for video. The camera shows the active source, falls back safely if it disconnects, and can notify you when the microphone changes.
‣ Monitor the live microphone in headphones and keep compatible music or podcasts playing.
◆ Export
‣ Share exactly what matters: export Full video or Selected range, then choose the untouched Original or a Stamped version with your chosen data overlays.
◆ Loop recording
‣ Use loop recording when only the latest part matters, and choose how much recent video to retain.
◆ Make every recording tell more of the story
‣ Add Map · QR-Code · Watermark · Speed · Pitch & Roll · G-Cross · Motion Quality · Video Diagnostics to give each recording the context your work, activity, or journey needs.
‣ Use Video Diagnostics to monitor frame rate, dropped frames, device thermal state, camera pressure, battery, and Low Power Mode during recording, replay, and stamped export—then refine mounting, airflow, power, or recording settings before heat or system load affects the result.
◆ Control the camera from Apple Watch
‣ Take photos, start or stop video, follow recording time, mute the microphone, and capture a still while video keeps recording—right from your wrist.
■ Keep the map around every point
‣ A map snapshot preserves the surroundings of each point for quick visual reference—even after you leave the place.
‣ To place a map directly on stamped photos, open MENU > Settings > Photo overlays and enable Map.
■ Bring back more detail when the light is poor
‣ When an inspection, site, label, or important detail is hiding in a dim interior or evening scene, Low Light Capture gives the back camera more time and prioritizes the iPhone’s best still-photo processing.
‣ Low-light photos can take a little longer, so hold the iPhone steady for the best result. If the scene or subject needs a faster capture, tap the moon to turn the feature off for the current camera session.

### 5.1.1 — 2026-05-09

■ Improved toolbars for compact screens on iOS 26
‣ Paint and selection tools now stay within easy reach on very narrow iPhone layouts and small iPad app windows. They move to the bottom toolbar instead of being tucked away in an overflow menu, making drawing, selecting, and applying changes faster on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
‣ Camera and preview actions now also have clear names when iOS 26 places them in the overflow menu, so Save, Notes, Drawing tools, Crop, Flash, Settings, and camera switching remain easy to find.
‣ Huge thanks to Ed for reporting the compact-screen toolbar issue and sharing screenshots.
Don't miss the major version updates:
■ Draw More Freely
‣ Add double-headed arrows, dimension lines, and text labels to call out details more clearly.
‣ You’re no longer limited to 8 fixed colors. Choose your own stroke and fill colors to match your style and needs.
‣ Adjust stroke and fill transparency separately for clearer overlays.
■ Edit Drawings Later
‣ Starting with version 5.1, drawings are saved in photo metadata instead of being baked into the saved photo, so you can select, edit, or delete them later.
‣ Use the new arrow button in the paint toolbar to enter selection mode.
‣ Tap a drawing’s border to select it, then use the Style button to change stroke, fill, transparency, or colors.
‣ Use the Text button to attach text to a drawing or edit the attached text.
‣ The trash button in the paint toolbar now removes all drawings, letting you return to the photo without drawings. If the photo was cropped or resized, the result is the cropped or resized photo, not the original uncropped image.
■ Share and Restore More Reliably
‣ Photos can still be shared with drawings applied, with or without location and note stamps, just like before.
‣ KMZ export still supports the previous presentation-style option that exports photos with drawings applied.
‣ A new KMZ export option now includes both the rendered photo and the original image with drawing metadata, so imports can restore your drawings for later editing.
‣ Please note: this rework only applies to drawings created in version 5.1 and later.
■ Quality of Life Improvements
‣ The automatically resolved address shown in the camera viewfinder now displays a warning indicator when the address is stale or when address resolution failed.
‣ Fixed the HTML formatting warning shown in Google Earth for Mac and PC when opening exported photo popups.

• Fixed alignment of landscape photo preview on iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3. The top part could be hidden behind the navigation bar and required scrolling — now fixed.
• Fixed photo capture screen not setting landscape orientation properly after a fresh app start on the latest iOS 15 version.
• Improved iPadOS 16–26 multitasking compatibility for the camera (Split View / Stage Manager).
◆ Don’t miss the major changes from the previous version:
■ Trash for Deleted Photos & Points
Accidentally deleted a photo? Now you can get it back. On your first delete, you'll be asked whether to enable Trash protection—or configure it anytime in Settings > Deletion & Trash Management. With Trash enabled, deleted items stay recoverable for 30 days before permanent removal. Access Trash from the collections filter in your points/photos list (MENU > Points) or in the settings.

### 5.0 — 2026-02-04

■ Redesigned Watch App
Completely rebuilt watch companion app using Apple's latest technology for better performance and reliability.

Exported files now preserve original creation dates and last-modified timestamps, so re-importing your data keeps all date information intact.
■ Reworked Numeric Keyboard
Dedicated numeric input keyboard (used for UTM, MGRS coordinates, etc.) now works properly and looks modern across all iOS versions 15-26. Fixed iPadOS 26 showing its own floating numeric pad alongside ours, and iOS 26 keyboard dismiss button losing proper placement after screen rotation.
