### 4/5 — Really nice ambient dreamscapes

*2025-01-02*

Honestly this app is cool because of how easy it is to use and the really lush ambient tones. Incredible. However the record / play button are not good. I try to record something and it doesn’t really play it back precisely at all. Really annoying. But otherwise this is easily the coolest, most lush, synth app i’ve ever used

### 5/5 — Mesmerizing

*2024-06-26, version 1.0.1*

This is so inspiring & relaxing at the same time. Can’t wait to use it with my drum machines & synths !

### 5/5 — Fun and creative!

*2024-06-25*

Really fun to play and experiment with! Great app for a broad range of users. From kid play to creative inspiration, it’s a color and sound musical playground!

**Developer response:** thanks mom!

### 5/5 — Lovely ambient machine

*2024-06-22*

I’ve only had this app for 5 minutes and already in love with it. Fun and useful for well seasoned musicians AND for people who aren’t. I love the design and playfulness of it. 10 out of 10 I highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the awesome review! I'm really glad you're enjoying Gradient Synth. Your support means a lot.

### 1/5 — Second review gone missing

*2026-02-18*

I bought this app when it first came out. Day of. Now they want me to pay for it again. I don’t mind subscription based models, but you should grandfather in the people that supported you when you first bought the app. Now you want me to pay five dollars for one more year of use. I already spent eight dollars on the app. You couldn’t have just added an app purchase you had to go to the Darkside. Not happy.

**Developer response:** Thanks for being a day-one supporter it means a lot to me.

You should not be losing access to what you originally paid for. Early owners are grandfathered into ownership, and the app actually includes more features now than it did at launch.

This sounds like I either didn’t communicate the pricing changes clearly enough (that’s on me), or your ownership status may not have migrated properly. If it’s the migration issue, I’d love to help get it fixed.

Please email me at corey@soulyftaudio.com and I’ll help sort it out.

### 1/5 — Another subscription dupe

*2026-02-13*

I spent seven dollars on this app. Had it three or four months. Now, they want me to spend $4.99 to have it for one year. After that it’ll be $14.99 a year. This isn’t that incredible of an app to pay this amount of money for. It’s not the worst, but it’s not the greatest and I’m kind of disgusted that this developer would not grandfather in all the people that bought this app the day it came out. That’s slimy and it’s really Not cool. Once you grandfather people in for maybe free for the first year and then 499 for the year after then I’ll think of keeping this app. If not, I’m actually going to get a refund because I don’t use this app enough to pay this amount of money for it.As someone who paid a test a ton of audio apps and owns hundreds since 2011 I find this practice despicable.

### 1/5 — Boring

*2025-06-20*

They want you to buy the app and then there are in app purchases

**Developer response:** The app is now free to download! In app purchases are for those who want to support the development of creative tools like this. Thanks for checking it out

### 1/5 — Boring

*2025-06-08*

This is the most boring app of all time

### 1/5 — Not as expected

*2024-09-04*

App doesn’t turn off in the background going on 15hrs now . Tone modulation doesn’t work. Gradients are purely visual. No sequencer. Honestly, drop the price until you get a handle on this. For some reason I can’t request a refund, prob not the devs fault. I don’t want to report it but I feel ripped off. Sorry if that’s harsh dude, I know it was a lot of work.

The gradients should indicate tone or octave. Fx control should be on screen with the gradient and lockable. I started with 3 stars and just had to settle on 1. If you plan on selling it, fix it first, if it was free or 0.99 until 2.0 that may be a good idea.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback and for giving Gradient Synth a try! I totally understand your concerns. There is an option to stop the app from running in the background if you check the settings. If you’re curious about how the colors interact with sound, it’s not just visual – feel free to explore more at manual.gradientsynth.com.

As an indie developer, I really appreciate your honesty. I’m always working on improvements, so if there's anything else I can help with or if you have specific ideas on how the gradients should indicate "tone or octave", please let me know!

Thanks again for your support and for trying it out!

### 1/5 — Disappointed no easy way to stop play back

*2024-08-19*

Fx controls disappear, no way to stop amd reaet play back… no easy way to input custom scales
No using accelerometer or Tilt and yaw to control effects…. Noise.io made a much better version of this 18 years ago then never updated
This app has potential… the creators have a lot of work ahead of them… please take the challengs i believe in you, will give 5 stars later

**Developer response:** Challenge accepted!

Some of your requests, like inputting custom scales, are currently available. I'll work on a fun implementation of tilt and yaw controls next. As a solo app developer on this project, I truly appreciate the feedback.

If you'd like to learn more about the current features, including a panic button to stop and reset playback, you can find the manual online at manual.gradientsynth.com

### 2/5 — Wonderful Synth, but…

*2025-06-06, version 1.5.2*

The synthesizer sounds fantastic, but unfortunately, it has a CPU load of almost 100% (for example in aum), which quickly leads to unpleasant crackling noises and generally off-key sounds. The high DSP load must be fixed, otherwise this app will unfortunately remain unusable.

### 2/5 — Cool idea, buggy

*2024-09-05*

Keeps crashing, audio drops out, can’t save recordings (or at least can’t find how to in UI). Wish the playable screen was bigger.

**Developer response:** Sorry about the crashes and audio dropouts! As a workaround for recording, you can use screen recording for now. I’m working on adding in-app audio recording soon. Could you email me at corey@soulyftaudio.com with your device info and crash details? It’ll help me fix things. Thanks for your patience!

### 3/5 — fix the ipad version

*2025-02-18*

ipad version is glitchy with preset making but p cool

**Developer response:** thanks, we updated recently with some performance updates so it should be less glitchy for you!

### 4/5 — Very Good app

*2025-05-10*

I really enjoy using it even for live plays as ambient effects. I will say that I would really like little more refined experience to use it as a more professional use for like church or live concerts.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — If this app is boring to you then you probably have no imagination.

*2025-06-13*

A great little synth that allows you to experiment and find new sounds in an easy to use interface. I personally run it through my pedalboard and DAW plugins. Great job, please keep it up!

**Developer response:** Running it through a pedalboard and other plugins is really creative! Thank you for downloading.

### 5/5 — Buggy but awesome

*2025-02-21, version 1.5.0*

It’s a buggy mess from the start : freezes, no sound, lags, etc. But it’s still one heck of a synth. Nothing else like it. Has to be tried at least once. It’s a no-brainer

### 5/5 — Doesnt work in DAW

*2024-11-29, version 1.1.5*

The app does not work with Ableton Live and Garage Band on the Mac. If you try to record and play a midi track with the plugin, you hear nothing

### 5/5 — Intuitive and relaxing

*2024-10-10*

I have been enjoying opening this app periodically and playing some notes with the very intuitive interface. It make it easy to explore a variety of soothing tones. It really takes advantage of the touch interface.

### 5/5 — I like it for de colours

*2024-09-01*

Deeeee…… COLOURS!

### 5/5 — Surprisingly Versatile

*2024-08-17*

Upon first glance it has a fun interface with a fast learning curve. The more you use it, you’ll find all sorts of ways to dial in and modify your sound. Complements traditional synths and plug-ins pretty well.

### 5/5 — Initial Reaction

*2024-08-16*

Instant melodies . A wonderful app. Can you make it so one’s creations can be shared?

**Developer response:** Thank you! This is a great idea, I am working on sharing features right now. A current "work around" is to use the system screen recording. Please send me an email at corey@soulyftaudio.com if you have a specific way you'd like to share your creations.

### 5/5 — Cool sounds

*2024-07-28, version 1.0.3*

A great way to music and sound design. It is fun to use this app :)

### 5/5 — Great and exploratory

*2024-07-17*

Abstract color is the best way to explore music!!!

### 5/5 — Really rather lovely!

*2024-06-27*

Oooh now this is a good addition to the generative music genre. Can hold fingers on screen to create a chord with one hand, and let other hand fingers dance to create a melody. Very intuitive, highly creative and just simply marvellous. I am already getting lots of cool sounds from this app and I'm sure it'll reward future explorations!

**Developer response:** I'm thrilled you’re finding Gradient Synth to be a great addition to your music-making tools. I use it the same way and love the intuitive chord and melody creation too. Enjoy exploring all the cool sounds!

Cheers,
Corey
