The adverts are very misleading **Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback, and sorry the app hasn't lived up to what you expected. Wrong identifications and care advice that's too generic are definitely bad; we're retraining the model on more diverse grass samples and working on recommendations that react to your specific lawn instead of repeating the obvious. I took five pictures of my lawn and the weeds on my lawn and all it did is continue to tell me Bluegrass… It was completely not helpful. Don’t waste your time! **Developer response:** Hi Patricia, we're sorry the scans weren't helpful. Getting the same "Bluegrass" result for five different photos, especially ones showing weeds, isn't how it should work. Weed identification also works differently from grass ID in the app, which may explain part of what you saw. My grass is obviously sick with brown patches everywhere. This app gave me no new information and did not indicate the grass was needed help. What a waste. With obvious brown patches, the app should have flagged a problem and given you concrete next steps, so that's a real miss, and improving the diagnosis part is exactly what we're working on. It automatically charged me $39.99 after the free trial without a warning. Acknowledged my cancellation but charged me anyway. **Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to leave a message. The Terms of use of Apples subscriptions states that if you don't want to be charged cancel 24 hours before the renewal. Apple requires a trial to be cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends, otherwise their system still bills the first period, even if you cancelled days earlier. From there nothing, it freezes. Just trying to work out how to delete the 7 day free trial so I don’t get charged at the end of it. **Developer response:** Hi Terry, thanks for letting us know, and sorry the scan froze on you. That's a bug, not how it should work, and we're on it. To stop the trial: open iPhone Settings, tap your name, go to Subscriptions, select Grass Identifier, then Cancel. Thanks again for flagging the freeze. ### 1/5 — Fraud *2026-05-29* Fraud !!! This app doesn’t work and when you cancel before the 7 days you will still be charged. It gives incorrect information. But first I needed to pay the $12.99 a month subscription. Okay so I take a picture of my perfect lawn AND the app INCORRECTLY ID my grass… it said I have perennial rye grass. It’s fescue and some Kentucky blue. Then it tells me to fertilize it? It was treated like 2 weeks ago it can’t get anymore N for a few weeks. Save your $13 hire a technician if you want a nice lawn. It is not good at doing what it is supposed to do - identify grass. I’ve taken pictures of the same grass and it gives me three different results. Often identifying a wide blade grass as a thin blade type. I had high hopes for this app, but it just isn’t very good. **Developer response:** Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and for the honest 3 stars. You've put your finger on a real weakness: inconsistent results on the same lawn shouldn't happen, and our model still confuses blade widths more often than we'd like. Glad the care info has been useful in the meantime. ### 2/5 — Inaccurate identification *2026-03-19* I had high hopes for this app, got the 1 month premium subscription to try it out before commiting to the one year. It identified my St Augustine grass as Bermuda grass several times, and not a single time did it say it is St Augustine. This app can be really helpful due to its other features but it needs some work to get accurate IDs. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the inaccurate identification. We’re continuously improving the model, and with more scans and real-world data, accuracy in these edge cases keeps getting better, so thank you for this feedback. Distinguishing between St. Augustine and Bermuda can be quite challenging, as they share similar color and growth patterns, while key differences (like blade width and texture) are not always clearly visible in photos depending on angle, lighting, or mowing. That doesn't encourage anyone to purchase it! **Developer response:** We hear you and we made some adjustments! You're right and we heard it a couple of times: Free users should get more scans. Right now, we got approval to raise the free limit to 3 free scans for new users in addition to getting one free scan every day. We'll experiment with this threshold and if it's financially sustainable (covering API, development costs etc.) we will consider raising the free threshold even more!
