Then, one day it changed to a paid version and all my entires were gone! Everyone at Gratitude said you could recover your entries but my account was never recovered and they said they had no record of me having an account. For some reason I’ve still kept the app all these years but have never been able to log in again without starting over with the paid version, and I certainly never got my years of entries back, which is very disappointing. That experience has made me wary of trusting the paid version, so I just never bought it. I wish I had just written it all in a physical journal because it would have been so nice to revisit those memories all these years later. ### 4/5 — Special memories! It was so simple. Now every time I add a line the screen bounces, it wants access to my pictures. Please make an option to disable the app asking me for access to my camera roll all the time. It would’ve been nice though if it had been an optional extra. Although I do think the app is great, sadly the subscription will prevent me from using it now. ### 1/5 — The photos are blurry it used to work great *2025-01-29* I have loved this app for a long time truly helpful, but after the recent update and paying $12 the app took major step backwards my favorite part of the app was after you write your Gratitude! you can attach a photo. and then once you post what you’re grateful for it will show you a picture. that you posted from your past. but ever since the update a few days ago, every photo shows up unrecognizable they really need to fix this because this was the feature that made this app stand out from all the other Gratitude! apps. if this is not addressed, I’m just gonna have to cancel. I would love to give a better review once it gets fixed and a better. It's like a whole new app—intuitive, smooth, and packed with thoughtful features that make journaling a joy again. The interface is now incredibly simple and easy to navigate. Every button and function is clear, and I don’t have to guess where to go. Saving entries is seamless—just tap, and you're good to go! This update has brought the app back to life and made it better than ever. If you gave up on it before, I highly recommend giving it another try—you won’t regret it. ### 1/5 — Update downgrade *2025-01-25, version 2.0.1* I downloaded and started using this app to record my daily gratitude. I loved the simplicity of the app… then, sadly, something changed. It seems I was forced into a subscription service because the free version was no longer accessible. The paid subscription service seems buggy and none of the links work. You cannot set your preferred format, which means you need to physically change the formatting every single day. There seems to be two different view styles, but unfortunately only one works. The weather no longer imports. I’m not a fan of the new features - in fact I’d really like to go back to the previous version please? ### 5/5 — A billion times better than social media *2025-01-25, version 2.0.1* I love the gratitude app! I downloaded it at the beginning of the new year and have since made a daily habit of using it every day to record things that I am appreciative of. I also like that you can add pictures. It can be used however you like and it’s well worth the $12 a year. ### 1/5 — Needs fixing *2025-01-24, version 2.0.1* I’ve updated the app today and to my greatest disappointment I learnt that now I have to pay for the subscription. Really??? I’ve had this app since the beginning and I have been recording my gratitudes since January 2016 and now I can’t even access it!!! This is beyond my comprehension! In fact, I paid for the app and now I can’t even get in. This is so disrespectful to the people who have had this app for ages. And so sneaky! I just checked it today, after an extended absence, and can’t get in it without subscribing. I’m very disappointed that all my notes over the years are gone.I am on a fixed income so even $12 a year can mean whether or not I get my medicines. I thought this was free forever when I signed up. ### 1/5 — DO NOT UPDATE THE APP. *2026-01-22, version 2.5.4* My original review seems to have been deleted. Interesting. So I’ll say it louder for the new owners/developers of this app. You repeatedly claim that this app has “never promised it would be free FOR LIFE”. (Emphasis my own) Which is a cute little tap dance around the fact that you know you are shafting users of this app who downloaded this app years and years ago under the REPEATED claims of Carla that this app should be downloaded because it is free! That this is a free app! And she wants everyone to download and use it because it is simple and FREE! Don’t download this app. Before, it was simple, cute, and fun. But this is nothing more than a gratitude journal. You don’t need anything fancier than a scrap piece of paper and something to write with to jot down what you are grateful for. Anything more than that is a greedy money grab. Which is what this app now is. ### 1/5 — DO NOT UPDATE THE APP *2025-11-09, version 2.5.4* I have been using this app for YEARS, and with this new update its functionality has been placed behind a paywall. When I recently upgraded my phone and logged in to my account, my journal was missing the last 3.5 years of my entries. The company has been unresponsive to my emails for assistance in recovering my entries. I’m highly disappointed and feel betrayed. A refund on the subscription will never replace those entries. ### 1/5 — Previously paid for now now access! *2025-03-01, version 2.3* I purchased this app several years ago and had logged a lot that I wanted to record and reflect on in the future. But now I can’t access anything and it’s requiring a monthly fee when I had already paid for it. Total bait and switch. I just want to have access to what I already paid for. It spit out an inspiring quote when you were done entering for the day. But now logging in this morning seems I have to pay $12.99. But if we hadn’t used it in awhile and forgotten passwords/usernames, tough…she refused to send them! They also used to allow a Twitter sign in. In essence, I lost years worth of entries because there isn’t a download/export option. Use Day One! When I checked, I was told that “ The app transitioned to a subscription-based model to fund major updates and keep it secure under Apple’s guidelines. If you had a one-time purchase from years ago, it’s unfortunately no longer recognized as an active subscription in our new system.”. I wish some form of notice was published in the app itself. I was starting a new gratitude habit and discovered this app, downloaded it recently and started using and one day was locked out unless I subscribed. It's a great app and I know it they really value our privacy and don't sell our data. That means a lot. When I have to contact support when I got a new phone I just needed to reinstall the app so it was a simple fix. They are not owned by a big company so it feels like a hearfelt project.
