Then I asked “where’s the indication that the detector saw something” and was astonished when told that the facility had no such readout. Looking back I’m guessing everyone there had this app on their phone. I even love the special chirp sound. The discussion section is great to get good recommendations of new publications and papers. You will get an alert 20 seconds after an event happens. Excellent interface too. ### 5/5 — Great way to experience GW Astronomy *2024-05-13* This app provides realtime alerts and reporting from around the world on the emerging field of Gravitational Wave Astronomy. It allows one to filter on and receive notifications for event types of interest. I enjoy getting notifications every few days on some new event or observations. Especially fascinating are events involving neutron stars, since they are the most likely to have remnants that can be observed by other means. I have read practically every report by teams trying to correlate observations of neutron star events, and am always amazed by the different teams of astronomers working together to understand the nature of the universe. This app is perfect for anyone who wishes to experience real-time and understand this emerging field and technology better. ### 5/5 — Mr William Rogers *2024-04-27* I’m not a scientist I’m just a train driver in the UK. I enjoy getting the chirps when I’m with my friends and work mates when I’ll explain to them what has happened somewhere in the universe. I think I do the app justice. I usually tell them we’ve just been hugged by the universe. Like any background radiation you keep thinking there could be a pattern and just get hypnotized by the static. That we can detect them at all is a miracle of modern science. I must admit however that much of the info presented in this app is technical and over my head, with numerous acronyms I don’t understand and technical data given that I cannot interpret. Thus, the app could be improved if there were significant descriptions and background info on GW events, the various detectors, the info presented, etc. Photos of the detectors for example and graphics would be super helpful. The real time alerts are exciting and with the links to more information, along with the ability to chat with others within the app, I have learned so much. This app makes the cutting edge science tangible and first person.
