## What is Gravity Notes?

Gravity keeps all your notes in one list, with the newest at the top. As you add more, older notes sink down the list. When one of them still matters, swipe it right and it comes back to the top.

The idea comes from Andrej Karpathy's append-and-review note: write everything in one place, read back through it now and then, and move up whatever you still care about. Gravity has no folders, so there's nothing to file.

Writing
The cursor is waiting at the top when you open the app. Type your note and press Return twice, or tap the add button. A half-written draft stays where you left it.

Rescuing and tidying
Swipe right on a note to rescue it. Swipe left to archive, delete, share or copy. Archived notes have a page of their own, and deleted notes stay in Deleted Notes until you restore them or clear them out.

Markdown and checklists
Headings, bold, italics, lists, links and quotes show formatted in the list. Start a line with "- [ ]" to make a checklist, then tick items off without opening the note. In the editor the formatting appears as you type, and a small bar above the keyboard adds headings, bold, lists and checklists. Everything is saved as plain Markdown text.

Tags
Start a note with todo:, idea:, read: or any word followed by a colon, and it gets a colour of its own. Type todo: into search to see only those notes. There's no tag manager to look after.

Search
Search covers every note on your phone, archived ones too, and works offline. It finds what you mean as well as what you typed: "sofa" finds your note about the couch. Typos, plurals, accents and shorthand like appt still find the note, and dates, phone numbers and amounts match however you write them.

Getting notes in
The Home Screen widget starts a new note or pastes in whatever you last copied. You can also share text or a link from another app, and it becomes a new note at the top of the list.

Privacy
Your notes are stored on your iPhone. Gravity has no ads and no analytics, and you don't need an account. If you want your notes on your other Apple devices, turn on iCloud sync; it also works with Gravity for Mac, which is sold separately. Gravity Sync (Beta) syncs with Android too, free during the beta. You can export everything as JSON or Markdown at any time.

Looks
Choose light, dark or OLED black, or follow the system, and pick from five text sizes. There's a stats page too, worked out on your phone, of course.

Price
You pay once. There's no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads.

### 4/5 — Really cool app!

*2026-03-21*

This app is great. I love the idea behind it. Definitely try it out. Other note taking apps have too much going on for my ADHD brain.

A few small improvements though:
I think the interface could be a bit cleaner and I’d love if it could support images and merge notes. I’d also love a simple watch app for capturing notes.

But it’s a lovely app. Highly recommended.

### 1/5 — Thumbs up

Note: This is becoming my main idea and short notes capture app. Very nice and simple design. Plus no subscription to deal with. Well worth the price.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words!

### 5/5 — Wow

### 5/5 — Simple and private!

*2025-12-15*

I admit, when an app was touted as simple, I was a bit worried it would be lacking. But I am finding it to be just what I needed. No extra junk to wade through to figure out how to use it. I like that you can bump a note to the top of the feed, and it’s very easy to search for keywords.

**Developer response:** I'm very happy you tried the app, and that you ended up liking it :) thanks for the review!

### 5/5 — Feature Request: Quick Voice Input for Notes

*2025-12-15*

Here’s what I want: You launch the app, press and hold the screen to start voice input, and as soon as you release your finger, it automatically stops recording and saves the transcribed text. The whole process is super quick, from start to finish. That's the kind of flow I'm looking for.

I would like a one-touch tagging feature and a quick one-touch search functionality for those tags.

I also want the ability to select and delete notes from the archive, so that unwanted items can be removed easily.

• Typos, plurals, accents and shorthand like appt still find your note, and dates, phone numbers and amounts match however you type them
• Short words in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai text are found, and searching for an emoji finds the notes that have it
• Search is much faster in large libraries, and your newest and rescued notes come first
• Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Grok to your notes with Gravity Sync. They can save notes to your list, search it and bring notes back to the top. Set it up in Settings → Gravity Sync → AI apps.
• Tap a note link from your AI app and the note opens in Gravity
• Gravity opens to your list when Gravity Sync is on, instead of the Gravity Sync page

### 2.1.0 — 2026-11-02

• Sync your notes across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android with Gravity Sync (Beta), free during the beta. Set it up in Settings.
• Edit the same note on two devices and Gravity Sync keeps both versions
• Two bigger text sizes, and notes follow your system font size up to 200%
• Switch search results between Best match and Newest
• Daily export saves a copy of your notes to the Files app each day you use Gravity
• Choose how long Deleted Notes keeps notes
• iCloud sync fixes for Replace iCloud and permanent deletes

### 2.0.6 — 2026-10-08

Export your notes, with more reliable editing and sync.

• Export all your notes as Markdown or plain text in a ZIP file.

• Replacing notes during import now includes a backup first, with safer handling of changes across devices.
• Improved conflict handling helps preserve edits when the same note changes on different devices.
• Search results refresh after edits and undo. Undo and draft handling better preserve your latest text.
• Sharing, exports and file pickers open more reliably after closing a panel.

### 2.0.5 — 2026-09-28

Markdown and checklists arrive in this update.

• The editor formats Markdown as you type, and a bar above the keyboard adds headings, bold, lists and checklists. You can switch it off in Settings, under Reading & writing.
• Start a line with - [ ] to make a checklist, then tick items in the stream or in the open note
• Strikethrough, third-level headings and links with their own label now display properly
• Long notes open on one page. Tap Edit and the same page becomes the editor, with the cursor on the line you were reading
• When you archive or delete a note, the notes below slide up to fill the space, and new notes rise into place at the top
• Search results no longer freeze the app, and accented letters match however they were typed
• If two devices change the same note, iCloud sync now keeps a copy so neither edit is lost

### 2.0.4 — 2026-09-21

Fixed a bug where very long notes could overlap others
