### 4/5 — Great variety

*2020-03-26*

The app is well suited for anyone looking to improve their vocabulary. I enjoy the rating scale but wish there was a better way (more objective) to quantify your progress rather than how well I feel I know the word. Overall though, this is a great app.

### 5/5 — Great way to broaden vocabulary

My husband and I are really enjoying this during a road trip this afternoon

### 5/5 — It's a good app

Not much to say.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2016-03-26, version 2.20141126*

I've literally used this app for less than two minutes and I already love it. Great idea. I love the way it looks and feels.

### 5/5 — The New Standard

*2015-11-07, version 2.20141126*

I love the Brainscape apps for their simplicity and effectiveness. After a few years in the ed-tech industry, I've come to appreciate the confidence-based approach to flash cards and the importance of consistent review to defeat the Ebbinghaus curve. Brainscape is the perfect platform for memorizing and learning quickly and maintaining those gains in the long term. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Best way to study

*2015-10-29, version 2.20141126*

GRE vocabulary is overwhelming. This app makes studying way more bearable.

### 4/5 — I would recommend

*2015-10-13, version 2.20141126*

I love this app because I learned so many words I had never been exposed to before! My only critique is that I would like to be shot the word and then shown it used in a sentence before I am given the opportunity to conclude whether or not I know the word. Unfortunately, it does not use it in a sentence until you ask it to reveal the definition. I think that small change would have helped me learn more efficiently. Either way, a viable investment.

### 5/5 — 5 minutes a day!

*2015-09-21, version 2.20141126*

5 minutes a day over coffee is all it takes! Love this app!

### 5/5 — Great study aid!

I really find this convenient to use while I'm watching TV or taking a quick work break.

V good app

### 5/5 — Great!!!

Great!!!!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2015-08-08, version 2.20141126*

A bit on the expensive side, but faster than other apps I've used that slowly flip from one word to the next. Speed is what I was looking for and I found it with this. Etymology would be a great addition.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Would have been a great review BUT...

*2020-08-23*

The app is great in theory, but they charged me twice to unlock the pro features and have not responded to several attempts to get them to address the issue. They need a phone number with a real person who can help troubleshoot issues when they occur.

### 1/5 — Beware spam!

*2017-10-13*

I’ve submitted an “unsubscribe” request 3 times and they continue to spam me with messages. Do NOT trust the makers of this app.

### 1/5 — Pay for the app just so they can sell my info, I think not

*2017-08-08, version 2.20160809*

Their privacy policy is stunningly terrible. Pay $10 for an app to help you learn just so they can sell your data and make money off you on he back side, I think not.

### 1/5 — Horrible app : they want to collect your private info

*2016-10-12*

I bought and then immediately deleted the app. I will request a refund. They ask you to create an account and ask you to allow them to collect your private info and use them. This is a horrible policy. Don't buy this kind of anti privacy horrible app.

### 1/5 — Don't buy it yet

*2015-06-23, version 2.20141126*

Crashes and forgets your progress on card sets. Also no discernible way to take out cards from the set. These are pretty big setbacks and huge time wasters. I would also like to change some of the definitions, since many are poorly defined. With fixes to these problems I would give it 5 stars, but as of now it's not worth the money.

### 1/5 — Stupid Programming

*2015-01-17, version 2.20141126*

The App is unable to parse a normal email address. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay for it. Why bother putting in so much work into making the app and then tripping over something as basic as email-parsing?

There are people in this world, some of them possibly intelligent, who don't have or want a Facebook account.

### 1/5 — Account is required to use App!

*2015-01-15, version 2.20141126*

Why is a Brainscape Account/Facebook email
required to use the App?
It will not open without one.
Users should be warned about this before
they purchase the App!!

### 1/5 — Good interface, not worthwhile

*2014-03-25, version 2.20140121*

Now, I know this app has a great interface, is very user friendly, and really helps you learn words. But the entire reason I wanted this app was because I want to study vocab words that have a high likelihood of appearing on the GRE- and study in an efficient, pointed manner. This app is terrible with that. It includes 1500+ words - who has time to memorize that many? Many of the words are too obscure to appear on the test. I even did a little test- took a random sample of words I didn't know from ETS real GRE tests, and out of the 1500 words on this app, only around 10% appeared on flash cards. As a comparison, I did the same test with the Barron's flash card app- and it had almost all of the words. Best part of all? Barron's had only 500 flash cards. Now that's what I call a good use of my time. Conclusion? This app is a waste of time and money, and will only lead you astray when studying for the GRE.

### 2/5 — Use to be free- not worth current price (9.99)

*2018-07-19*

This use to be a free app but now you want to charge $10 for a bunch of outdated words? Since updating my phone and reloading the app, I’ve discovered the creators want some serious cash. I’ll deal with ads of other flash cards or pay less money—uninstall.

### 2/5 — Missing features and lots of errors

*2016-09-26, version 2.20160809*

Finally an update for this app, and still no option to delete unwanted cards (despite the help menu insisting that this feature already exists).

"Word elements," which I don't care for at all, show up in huge disproportion to the ordinary word cards. A "delete" icon exists, but pressing it only reveals a message promising the additon of a delete feature in the future. Well, the update finally came, and still no such feature- BUT you went to the trouble of adding a useless explosion animation when ticking off cards? Come on.

Many cards lack multiple meanings of a word or only loosly define it. Some are flat out incorrect. The text can vary for corresponding cards that should be identical (recall definition vs. recall word).

Other than that, the interface is good and runs smoothly. But the experience is seriously dragged down. --DELETE FEATURE PLEASE--

And if you add the delete feature, please add the ability to un-delete cards as well. The current help section says this will not be possible, which is ridiculous.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Awesome App!

*2020-09-09*

I just downloaded the app, all the content is available (some you have to unlock over time) but it’s all free and a great way to review Vocabulary, highly recommended!

### 5/5 — A helpful system for learning

*2020-06-18*

I found very helpful that you can rate how good you know the word on 5 point scale.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2020-05-06, version 2.20130515*

Just loved it.

### 5/5 — Fun and Helpful!

A+

### 5/5 — Good

*2019-03-05*

Thank you

### 5/5 — Brilliant App

*2019-01-07*

Follows blooms taxonomy as a learning system. My advice is to generate your own sentences after going through each card and lower the deck to 5 to really capture the meanings behind each word.

### 5/5 — Useful

*2018-07-21*

Very helpful, would absolutely recommend.

### 5/5 — The Best App I’ve Found

*2017-11-13*

I’ve tried several GRE vocabulary apps and this one is by far the best. They include the pronunciations of each word and a color coding system that I ❤️. Thank you!

### 5/5 — 👌

*2017-10-13*

Good

### 5/5 — Great!

*2016-10-12, version 2.20160809*

Efficient app for learning, great tool for on-the-go and far better method than using flashcards. Definitely recommend.
