### 4/5 — Absolutely love, however how often is it updated

*2024-01-24*

I love this app it’s the best way to memorize new words. However my concern is I’m not seeing a lot of these words on the gre tests (however I’m in early stages of studying). How frequently is the app updated to reflect more recent gre words

**Developer response:** Hey Tyler - unfortunately there is no way to update the app to reflect the current GRE, since the GRE is a black box. They don’t tell us which words they test. No one has access to that information. Like most apps, ours is based on words from all the official practice material. The good news is that it doesn’t matter if the app’s words appear on the practice tests you’re taking - all that counts is how many show up on your real GRE!

### 5/5 — Help - UI issues, unable to navigate

*2023-10-09*

Hey! While the app content is great and super useful. I’m unable to go to the next word or mark words out without closing the app! Only when I fully shut the app and restart does the next new word pop up

**Developer response:** This is a Wi-Fi issue in all the cases we’ve seen. Hope the problem resolved!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2023-03-05*

It is great app for learning the Vocab! One suggestion is that many vocabulary’s pronunciation is incorrect. Maybe you just need to remove that pronunciation part! Again, thanks!

**Developer response:** Glad you like the app! I think we’ll have to agree to disagree about the pronunciation though… our pronunciations are correct!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-01-09*

Would be cool if you could select cards and put them into multiple separate reviewable decks instead of just having the normal and removed cards. For example I’d like to create an easy, medium and hard deck for myself to be able to review.

**Developer response:** Glad you enjoying the app! And thanks for the suggestion - I’ll run that by our developers next time we look at making changes to the app.

### 5/5 — No 1 app for GRE. This is exclusive content and world are most relevent

*2022-11-23*

I bought this app love the way this is user friendly. The content is great and enjoyable. You can learn by enjoy 3 liner stories and boom. The word will be in your mind forever. Great tactic to make student learn in short time. I am also following author course on linked. Definately recommend it. But it without healstitaion

**Developer response:** Thanks! Glad you are finding it to be useful and good luck on the GRE!

### 4/5 — Saving my butt (so far) - but some flaws

*2022-10-14, version 1.0.22*

I had been using a really lame free Flashcards app for GRE Vocab for a few weeks before this app, and found myself dreading going over the Flashcards because of how blatantly boring it was to do and how much said app kinda sucked. I found myself spacing out so much after a few cards that it was becoming a waste of time, and I was memorizing slowly.

This app is onto something though—I first heard about it just yesterday (no idea why not sooner) and figured the 99 cents is worth the risk for what it claimed to deliver. I’ve been using it for 24 hours on and off and can say that 1) I actually look forward to using these Flashcards because the lighthearted humor makes them more entertaining 2) Ive found can pay attention for longer when reading them (definitions are short and sweet and the humor and bright graphics tickle my monkey brain) rather than be lulled to sleep 3) thanks to the use of both definitions and helpful mnemonics, i feel like I’m committing words to memory at a much faster rate, and with noticeable progress: with the handful of words I’ve been reviewing, I did significantly better on the practice text completion I did today vs yesterday before downloading the app.

I appreciate the effort put into making these cards humorous (I’ve heard that evoking an emotional response tends to help memory formation, so users who can’t handle a little immature/dark humor on occasion are just missing out really), as it’s been a silver lining to the grueling cramming process. I also like a lot of how the app is set up—being able to remove cards from the stack is really helpful to streamline the process, and the search feature is great.

The reason I gave 4 stars because of how the UI is currently set up, as it greatly impacts the effectiveness of the app for me— I’d appreciate the review format being a bit different. Rather than having a list form where we can only tap on words in an ordered list to see the card, I’d appreciate the option to switch to the actual Flashcard format (the same format that daily words are presented in). Being able to have new words shuffled in with older ones I may not have mastered yet would be the perfect setup imo and would help the app’s effectiveness be that much better, as this is how I study and I think I’m not the only one. It just takes a lot of time to go through the list and it makes me wonder if I’ll be able to get as much use out of the app as I’d hoped. If you allow for more options like this though, I think this app could be seriously amazing. Thanks for all your work on this!

### 5/5 — Awesome app did 950 words from this app

*2022-10-05*

I did 950 words but please set a limit and reapeat those only :; i cant do 1340 words .. the app should have a independ limit section ..and just repeat those only..until the test ...otherwise everything is just perfect

### 5/5 — Great app

*2022-07-01, version 1.0.22*

Great app! Super helpful to learn vocab. I particularly love the sentences and ways to remember the words. They are more applicable than the sentences in books made by big test prep companies. I

### 5/5 — amazing

*2021-10-10, version 1.0.22*

you can tell how much thought the creators out into this. they really made memorizing vocabs easy

### 4/5 — Good app

*2021-08-22*

Overall I think the cards are very helpful for learning. However I do wish that under review cards there was a way to compile all the words and review them as flash cards in a randomized order.

**Developer response:** I agree! We’ll add a quiz mode when we can. Btw we post quizzes on our Instagram several times a week.

### 5/5 — Awesome and free!

*2021-07-21, version 1.0.22*

Splendid free app with pictures and hints on how to memorize GRE vocabulary, super helpful!

### 5/5 — Best tool for GRE Vocab

*2021-07-05, version 1.0.20.1*

Best tool for memorizing vocab for the GRE.

### 5/5 — I’ve never written a review on the App Store but I have to for this one!

*2021-07-02*

This app makes learning new words fun and not a chore, especially if it’s for an exam like the GRE.
The pictures and mnemonics are hilarious, making it all the more easy to remember the words they’re for. The app lets you set a daily target as a number of how many words/word roots you want to review each day and even keeps track of your “streak”, gamifying the whole experience further. Also, make sure you visit the website of this app’s creator before you take the GRE (vincekotchian.com/gre-prep)!

**Developer response:** Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the app 😊

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — NOT for GRE - regret buying

*2025-11-16*

The daily vocab flashcard stack disappears every day and in order to review the ones you have trouble with you have to go to a list of all of the vocabs without being able to identify the troubled ones. They are all in a list rather than a stack and you have to go through the list. Regret buying the app

### 1/5 — Funny but pathetic at helping you remember the meaning of the words

*2024-08-26*

Waste of time and money. I feel that it is only meant to be funny, if you serious about improving your vocab then it is definitely bot the right app. It will waste your time and hence you will need much longer to improve

**Developer response:** This seems a little harsh!

### 1/5 — GRE Vocab review

*2022-10-26, version 1.0.22*

Even though it’s cheap, it’s not worth it. It’s difficult to memorize and you need synonyms not just definitions. I was much better off studying from gremat’s blackdeathon sets 1-32 of each set containing 30 words in Quizlet. So try that before you try this.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever purchased!!!

*2022-03-10*

This is by far the worst app I’ve purchased. I’ve updated my phone and the application and still it does not work as intended. On two different devices I’ve been stuck on the first word because the card did not move as intended. Really buggy and terrible experience. I can’t believe I wasted money on this app. Don’t make the same mistake as I have!

**Developer response:** Hi! The card will only swipe if the picture side of the card is up. It’s not a bug :)

### 1/5 — Asks for email

*2021-06-20, version 1.0.20.1*

Before you can use the app, it asks for your name and email.

### 3/5 — better than I expected

*2021-12-22*

it's only been a few days since I started using it after going through the magoosh apps. to be honest I thought a lot of the sentences/illustrations were kind of cheesy, but some have actually turned out to be pretty helpful memory devices. loses like a star and a half for the few gross/juvenile cards and typos
update: lost another star because yeah, I get that the definitions have to be short, but many are incomplete or cover a scope either way broader or narrower than the word actually implies. I keep having to check with other dictionaries because I would not get on well only using the definitions as they appear

**Developer response:** The trouble with humor is that it’s not going to work for everyone, but I’d rather make some people laugh than bore everyone! I’d love to hear where the typos are if you don’t mind. The definitions are not intended to replace those from a dictionary, but rather are designed to be efficient and effective for GRE prep and work well in my experience to get ETS questions right.

### 3/5 — Almost great

*2021-06-26*

It’s a pretty cool app, and I love all the effort put into mnemonics and illustrations, but I wish there were a way to review via flash cards (not just scrolling through the “review” list) while keeping your “removed words” out of the deck. It becomes pretty tedious to constantly be quizzed on the easier words that are already part of your everyday vocabulary, and even more so when you can’t swipe it away without having to flip to see the definition you already know. (Hopefully I’m just overlooking a button for this?)

**Developer response:** Thanks for these comments! If you don't mind can you email me at Vince@vincekotchian.com to clarify? I think you are saying the "review cards" option on the menu isn't an efficient way to review cards you've already seen? You know you can swipe down to remove cards, right? Anyway, I would love more info since this seems like something we might actually want to change.

### 3/5 — Freezes

*2021-04-06, version 1.0.17*

An easy way to learn Vocab but freezes often. This can be frustrating when trying to study.

### 4/5 — Nice App but needs pronunciation

*2024-12-30, version 1.0.29*

Good definitions, daily goals, fun reminders but needs audio/ pronunciation. Hence a 4.

### 4/5 — Great but…

*2024-07-09, version 1.0.29*

I wish there was an account creation so then my deck could be saved across devices

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wow

*2026-02-08*

Though there is room for improvement I can not believe how the associations and cartoons stick in your head! Brilliant - thank you for making studying new words so much fun

**Developer response:** This is why the app has a spaced repetition algorithm, like Anki. It takes care of the repetition for you so you don’t have to think about it. You can always review more often with the review cards option which… yes.. means you have to click menu and then review cards.

### 5/5 — Bought it again!!!

*2026-01-25*

I bought this app ages ago when I was preparing for my GRE. It was a lifesaver. Now I bought it again as I switched phones just to relearn those words and refresh my memory. Best app imo for improving vocab and I absolutely love the humor.

**Developer response:** Thanks for buying it twice! Glad you liked the jokes.

### 5/5 — Very well done

*2025-05-23*

This application offer wonderful mnemonic devices to help you recall difficult vocabulary. I do wish that the app kept track of words you are missing and showed those again at the conclusion of the deck.

**Developer response:** Thanks Kaleb!

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2025-02-25, version 1.0.29*

Wow, I love this app so much. I had such a hard time studying the GRE vocab words and thankfully I found this app. Thank you to the creator who made this app!!

### 5/5 — Finally!

*2025-01-31, version 1.0.29*

I wish I discovered this a year ago when I started studying!! Must have for GRE!!!

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-12-04*

Content is great. Maybe if you make this into anki cards and charge for it like anking does, its gonna be even better.
Bc i have no idea where i can see the cards that i swiped left.

Other than that, highly recommend to gre students.

**Developer response:** Thanks- glad to see 80-year-olds enjoying the app!

### 5/5 — The app is really good , but please add the following feature

*2024-07-15*

A feature through which I can only review a set of flash cards rather than all. Please add this feature.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the suggestion - I may add this in the future scenario where I hire a dev to update the app. No plans to do that soon, though. You can review the cards you studied so far - they’re at the top of the list.

### 5/5 — Love the art style !

*2024-05-19, version 1.0.29*

Good words too !

### 5/5 — Best vocab App i've ever met

*2024-02-23, version 1.0.29*

Pls keep updating dude!!

### 5/5 — Great fun way to study Vocab

*2024-02-11, version 1.0.29*

I got this app because based on my mock i had problems with vocab. This app makes it super easy to memorize words. Im able to do 50-100 words in few hours.

Would be great if there was a quiz mode.
