Love the animation, music, and interactive features! Since then, I have purchased an iPad 4 and iPhone 6 and both have the updated iOS 10.1. This app plays OK on my phone, but that is too small to really enjoy. It constantly crashes on my iPad and is useless on that. The last update, according to this site, was in 2013! PLEASE update this app, even though it is probably too late for this Halloween (2016) but at least for next year? ### 5/5 — Nostalgia, level: expert *2016-07-25, version 1.3* Going through this app with my daughter, I realized that it really nailed how to execute nostalgia. What struck me, was a ridiculous sense of nostalgia that reminded me of how I felt as a kid in pajamas in front of our old RCA color television in 1982 on Halloween night. It is a rare application that can make you revisit that moment with your child who doesn't remember a time before smart iPhones existed. The language in the book is the same as the tv special. I thinks this is a great app for Peanuts fans. I don't like that you have to pay for some of the extras after already paying for the app, but I liked them so much anyway, that I bought the rest of the bundle. The complaints about it being appropriate for children, have obviously never seen the cartoon. There are no added quotes. Everything in the book are sound bites from the cartoon. ### 5/5 — Great way to experience a classic *2014-10-13, version 1.3* This has all the charm of Schulz' classic comic with a sprinkle iPhone magic for good measure. Reading and rereading this story has become a Halloween tradition in our home. A superb way of getting in touch with the season. Tip: share it on the big screen via Apple TV and charm the whole family. Highly recommended. ### 5/5 — Flawless homage the to Charlie Brown genre *2014-10-05, version 1.3* Wonderful all .. Scenery .. Interactivity and music. It's like a living book. The best thing is your child being able to design themselves as a character in the peanuts books and inserting themselves as a stand in character of sorts to hang out with the gang. My daughter got a real kick out of that (and yes you can choose from variety of skin tones). Only downside is the language in Charlie Brown is from a time where bullying was seemingly more accepted .. Charlie Brown is constantly put down and even called stupid every now and then plus a lot of arguing, moodiness, threats, and putting down in general across the board from a lot of the characters. I still give it 5 stars because it's a flawless homage to Charlie Brown and is a perfect example of what a 21st century book should be ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Can’t turn the page on iPhone 13 *2023-10-03* I created an avatar, but past that nothing can be done. The words used in the story are way too violence and negative for children. It maybe fun in the interest of an adult, but it's inappropriate for children. When you and your kid sit down and trying to enjoy a funny and spooky Halloween story for a nice Sunday afternoon, it just felt like a bomb explored on a peaceful land with this app. There're way too many negative things and words people doing and saying everyday, I don't need to "buy" these things in to me and my children's life. I'll pretend I just dropped $6 bucks on the street. There're many ways to tell a good Halloween story by using positive and beautiful words. This app is not suitable for children at all. I'm very disappointed. ### 1/5 — Booooo. Don't buy. *2013-08-30, version 1.1* This app is nothing like the Charlie Brown Christmas book. See below. The worst part, however, is that 'cool' part of the book that lets you customize an avatar in costume to appear on one of the pages is only accessible if you enter an email address and/or sign in with Facebook. I'm guessing there are in-app purchases to be made for costume options. The Christmas book had a lot of fun Easter eggs and achievements to find, but there are only a few in this book. Even skipping all that extra 'functionality', this book is just not as nifty as the Christmas book. There is no option to have the entire thing read to you; you have to manually swipe through the narration on the each panel and it's easy to accidentally tap on a word instead. You also have to use the pull down bookmark to move from one page to the other. You can't actually swipe between pages/panels. Terrible navigation. I've removed the book from my iPad so I don't have to deal with the disappointment of telling the kids, "no," repeatedly when they want me to hand over email or permit them an in-app purchase. ### 1/5 — Pay to Play Kids App That Costs $4.99?!? Seriously?!?!? *2012-10-30, version 1.1* I should have read the reviews. I never even imagined that a $5 app, geared towards kids, would require in-app purchases in order to play. What the heck? I agree with other reviewers that the makers and distributors of this app should be deeply ashamed of themselves. A new greed low, really, that parents have to explain to their kids, often 5 or under, that no they can't play that without buying "coins" and why won't mommy buy coins? Because she already paid $5 for the app and you need real money to buy fake money in the game. Great lesson that people stink.
