Do I wish it could do more, yes…but honestly I’ve had no issues with operating it. I like it because it is simple, and gets the job done ### 2/5 — Needs improvement *2025-04-12, version 2.6.6* Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. When you are out of pellets you can’t do anything cause the warning pops up every second. I don’t get notifications unless im in the app and i have my notifications on. Whats the point of having an app if it doesn’t tell me when the smoker is to temp or if the meat is up to temp. Im not going to keep the app open the whole time. Although it is nice to start it in the house and remotely observe it, it need a huge improvement. Also the remote option doesn’t work unless you keep the app open. Fix these and ill give five starts. ### 2/5 — Working great until latest update *2024-09-08, version 2.6.6* Been working great.. then I started to notice that i no longer receive notifications in server mode. Kind of defeats the purpose of the app. I have updated to latest firmware, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, done board reset, and reconnected everything, then back into server mode and get nothing. We finally came to the conclusion that there’s something wrong with the Bluetooth libraries in iOS. We managed to get an android to connect using the prime app. Please send out an update to correct this ### 1/5 — Notifications gone! *2024-07-17, version 2.6.6* Yes, I have my iOS set up correctly, I’ve restarted my phone, deleted and reinstalled the app. Still no notifications. When it works once in a blue moon, it is neat. That’s why I gave two stars. I was hoping the new app would fix this, but it doesn’t. I can never stay connected anymore. How dare you force customers that drop the kind of money to purchase your grill to lose out using the app because you force them to enable their location. This means you can’t answer a text, take a call, or even let your phone lock When the app closes while the temperature is rising will cause the GMG to “pause”. It’s paused on me several times @ 98 degrees while connecting to it after it’s past the 0-1-2-3 cycle and it’s warming to 150. This is beyond useless, good thing Wi-Fi wasn’t the main feature I was going for ### 2/5 — Great Grill Terrible App *2023-08-11, version 2.6.6* The Grill/App suffer from bad connectivity issues and the only way to resolve them is to reset the grill. Happens every time I want to do a smoke. Contacted their support multiple times and no help. Stopped about 6 months ago with zero reason and no updates from GMG. Did they get bought out by private equity, because customers come last it would seem. ### 1/5 — Connection *2026-01-02, version 2.6.6* The grill continues to fail to connect to the app, even after I have updated the firmware and connected to the grill WiFi. It doesn’t matter if I’m on either side of it or right on top of it. When you close the app it disconnects from the grill. You can’t easily save recipes. You can’t change the amount of smoke you can’t set the grill to understand the outside temp versus the inside temp. They give you a slider that says cold warm and hot and you can “set the temp” that’s way but it does nothing. The grill is terrible and cheaply made and the app is a complete afterthought. Zero effort went into this app. ### 1/5 — Needs improvement *2025-09-09, version 2.6.6* I work with phone apps and back end servers I could program something better by myself easy. Although there is likely some blame on the hardware engineers. I mean wow, a printer does a better job staying connected with worse WiFi signal. Come on, really, this thing lives outside, put the extra 10 bucks per unit and get better hardware. I have had this smoker for a while, the app is super finicky. When everything is working it’s great! But put some more features in settings to help the user debug. There are three ways to stay connected… direct, WiFi, and server. Direct is fine but as soon as walk through the door it’s hit or miss. WiFi is ok but still a little finicky as well. Server is awesome when it’s working, I can run to the store or to work and I can stay posted with what’s going on, but just as finicky as WiFi. If I want to grill the following week I have to go through the same headache of process to connect. A lot of times I can’t connect in any way so I need to factory reset and go through all the brutal steps again including updating the grill. It’s likely mostly a hardware issue, but come on, there should be better debugging steps on the app so the user knows what’s up and can connect and start smoking sooner. Hours of my life wasted screwing around with this app and talking to customer service. I am going to keep at a one star until I see some improvements, or better yet just hire me to improve the robustness of the software and the client side app. Then I’ll give it 5 stars ### 1/5 — Nothing but a hassle *2025-06-11, version 2.6.6* Bought a green mountain grill, the grill works great. The app is nothing but a hassle and never works. It never connects. It is absolute junk. I completely regret buying this product. The profiles are genius. Wishlist: I wish it seamlessly and automatically switched to server mode when leaving the wifi area. I have a thermoworks signals and that works automatically when I leave the house. Yesterday I was smoking chicken and left and didn’t realize I had to switch to server mode manually. It does automatically switch down from server to wifi to direct but not the other way around. ### 5/5 — Few Small Changes *2022-01-08, version 2.5.6* Love using the grill! A few small issues, need to make sure recipes have both F and C degrees all the way through as this does get confusing when it does not have this. Also, with the profiles you need another column to split time and meat probe temp. Have a dash if not being used. Update the app with the new cracking logo! Other than this your Aussie brothers love the app. Keep up the great work! ### 5/5 — Needs app updates for new phone *2020-12-18, version 2.5.4* My Davy Crockett worked great with WiFi on previous iPhone XR. Upgraded to iPhone 12 Pro and it stoped working. I was able to find the WiFi and connect to it. But through the App it couldn’t connect as not grill was detected. Installed the app on my wife’s iPhone 12, it worked. Tried uninstall and reinstall the GMG app still not able to find the grill even with WiFi connected to the Grill. That seems to be an App bug as the new phone being not compatible. Hope there will be an update on the App for the new iPhone soon. Update: it turns out the iPhone 12 pro is having issue with the connection. Tried the GMG app after couple of weeks without any app update, the grill connected to the 12 Pro without issue.
