### 2/5 — Autofunding unreliable.

*2026-09-06, version 8.7.2*

I feel like the most basic part of what it is supposed to do falls pretty far short of what I expect. Allowances are constantly not funded because the amount in my account isn’t enough to cover the allowances. Except I have it set so that if it falls below a certain amount it should automatically pull funds from my bank to always have enough. It doesn’t do that. But hey! There’s a bot you can chat with that will try to placate you! Seems like a waste of resources compared to fixing what it tells me is a known problem. I probably would not have signed up had I known that it couldn’t do the basic thing automatically.

### 3/5 — it’s very annoying because I’m saving up money, but it took it away just because Im not checking :(

*2026-09-01, version 8.7.1*

sad very. Sad sad

### 3/5 — Card was expired on first use

*2026-08-28, version 8.7.0*

App looks pretty decent but not much use if the card says expired on first use and kid confused..

### 1/5 — Subscription Trap

*2026-08-24, version 8.7.0*

I enjoyed this app when my daughter was in middle school and thought I had canceled, deactivated and removed the app from my phone. My daughter just graduated college and Greenlight withdrew $100 from my account … when I investigated, they had never cancelled my account and was charging me $5.99 for the last 7-8 years?!?

I found where to disconnect my bank account and then deactivate my GL account, but it took 20 minutes to find and felt familiar since I thought I had done this many years ago.

This is a subscription trap business … and deleting the app or even unsubscribing is not enough … disconnect your bank and check back in a few months to make sure!

### 3/5 — Sooo many clicks!

*2026-08-24, version 8.6.0*

Overall I am pleased with the app, except it’s something else you have to have a monthly subscription for. At least it’s a reasonable cost. But PLEASE update where editing chores doesn’t take 5 clicks. Some kids have 2 homes and aren’t home everyday;however Greenlight makes it a good bit more effort to delete a chore. Even a skip button would be great.

### 4/5 — Desco account will not link without calling to do so

*2026-08-22, version 8.6.0*

I love this app but the linking part needs work. I choose to link my account and it never works until I call. Takes the convenience out of it where they make it seem so easy to do. This is the second time I've tried to link and it won't.

### 3/5 — Bugs out trying to link AMEX

*2026-08-22, version 8.6.0*

Fairly smooth but major bug prevents linking an AMEX card through Plaid. After getting you to log in with your AMEX account. It pops up a screen telling you to exit back to Greenlight to finish setting it up. But you are already in Greenlight and there is no way to navigate anywhere, you are just stuck on the screen unless you force reboot the app. Of course all progress is lost so you can never link an AMEX.

### 1/5 — They keep stealing from us

*2026-08-22, version 8.6.0*

Have tried to cancel so many times, hours spent on the phone with useless customer service. They keep charging overdraft for an account that is empty, hasn’t been used in 18 months, and “closed” for more than a year. An absolute swindle.

UPDATE: After writing this review, I finally heard from a customer service rep. It took a couple of days, but they refunded a year’s worth of fees they had been stealing from my child’s savings account. I regard this as a good step and I’m grateful for the help, but I still believe this firm operates on a policy of poor customer service in order to generate fees for profits. They didn’t care for months and months and months: it was only when I publicly called them out here that they did anything. I’m sure there are more honest providers for you to use with your child’s banking.

### 1/5 — Won’t help with fraud

*2026-08-20, version 8.6.0*

Seemingly a good product unless something happens and somebody steals your kids card. Good luck getting your money back or having anybody help you since everything is run by AI and no humans are around to help. You’ll provide all the documentation that you need to show that something was charged at a store in the United States while you were out of the country and they’ll tell you too bad so sad. Then because you opened a fraudulent charge, they’ll cancel the card and say they’ll send you a new one and then never send you a new one so you have an unusable account for months.

### 4/5 — Great Functionality, App Design Less So

*2026-08-19, version 8.6.0*

I am really loving the functionality and how Greenlight works. We haven’t had any issues in terms of chores and usage of the features. One thing that has been a frustration for me and my kids is the inability to organize and customize the home screen on the app. Currently, the “ad” from Greenlight for negotiating bills is above where my tasks and grocery lists are listed. There are just enough things on the home screen that are irrelevant to us that is making the app less functional.

### 1/5 — Awful for transition to Adulthood!!

*2026-08-19, version 8.6.0*

This app is awful to use after you’ve turned 18! I can’t transfer more than $500 to another account without “breaching rules”. When you turn 18 you cannot connect Greenlight to your bank account. AWFUL job on your part Greenlight… get it together for future young adults

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-08-18, version 8.6.0*

Everything is ai powered horrible customer support but the app is ok

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Money lost

*2026-09-04, version 8.7.2*

Just because my
Son was on low balance it took ten dollars because I couldn’t add money yet

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-09-04, version 8.7.2*

The app is impossible to navigate so may unknown issues, try to put in the child’s phone number and there’s some unknown issue so we try the email and doesn’t work either, useless app should be giving children some form of independence but instead I just get texts every day asking how much is on the card even though there is an app that should show that

### 1/5 — WHYYY I HATE THIS APP

*2026-09-03, version 8.7.2*

WHAT IS DOES IS IT BRINGS BACK PURCHASES THAT I PAID FOR AND MAKES ME PAY FOR IT AGIM FIX THIS DUMB ANNOYING STUPID IT HAS DONE THIS TO ME SINCE I GOT IT IF I COULD GIVE ZERO I WOULD I FREAKING HATE THIS APP DON'T GET IT SAVE YOURSELF

### 1/5 — The most obsolete and asinine customer service

*2026-09-02, version 8.7.1*

Don’t do it. If you’re thinking about it, don’t do it go to your actual bank. The customer service is defunct backwards non-English speaking, not understanding in any way shape or form. I have tried to resolve the simple shipment of one card to my home and they keep sending it to old addresses and they send the wrong cards. They don’t know how to read. If a bank has no reading comprehension, I want nothing to do with it.Its been a month with no resolution and all I want is a card sent to my house. I updated on the application. I updated on their website and they seem to just not be able to put something in the mail. Don’t waste your money don’t waste your time. Don’t download it. I know it has 4.8 reading but I’m gonna tell you right now if you need any help and I mean any, it will not be sufficient. You have a better chance of hiding money under your pillow at home then you do of ever getting Customer Service to do something correctly.

### 1/5 — Money gone

*2026-08-29, version 8.7.0*

I got money from the qr the notification disappeared and didn’t give it to me

### 1/5 — Bad

*2026-08-27, version 8.7.0*

I don’t understand the high reviews. The app constantly glitches out switching between kids, which messed up the chore and savings goals between the children . Then prevent me from deleting the savings goals. It also had had trouble reconfiguring the deposit from capital one for several days. The support wrote down the wrong email address for my wife which took a week to fix; and they currently think I’m someone else despite multiple verifications, which prevents customer support from helping with the above issues. Finally, the app is hard to navigate the most used feature, parley because it has so many ads to get to you sign up for the higher tier.

### 1/5 — The whole app sucks dude

*2026-08-27, version 8.7.0*

Terrible app

### 1/5 — Referral scam

*2026-08-26, version 8.7.0*

I sent a referral link to sign up my fiancé’s son for an account. She used the link to open an account and then they reneged on paying the bonus because they said she didn’t use the link??? they refused to make good on it, though it was obvious she opened the account on the day that I which I showed them via a screenshot . complete BS and I’ll never refer a person again for the rest of my life.

### 1/5 — Sketchy app

*2026-08-25, version 8.7.0*

Will stop using this. Money be disappearing. Don’t trust this app.

### 1/5 — Worst update ever.

*2026-08-25, version 8.7.0*

I used to recommend this to all my friends with kids.. and to my followers (all 300k of them) this new update is the WORST and I’ll now be cancelling my subscription 👎🏼

They can spend, save and invest. Gives them enough accountability but still the parent has ultimate control.
