I use it to record locations but have to remember what order they come in. If you could record a small note each time a location is saved this app would get 5 stars. ### 5/5 — Great App *2019-01-22, version 2.1* Short and sweet, it’s a great app and works well. No lagging or stalling. Gives complete details from Grid reference, northings and eastings and bearing you’re marching on. For development though. Could you possibly make an option to convert to mils mag as well as in degrees? As I know a lot of military have this on their phone and we use mils rather than degrees. I live on the edge of Dartmoor and there’s been times when the thick mist has come down in areas that I’m really very familiar with but even still, and thanks to my GridPoint, I realise that I’ve drifted hopelessly off course, but thanks to GridPoint I can now reset my compass bearing. Also the really good thing to be aware of is that GridPoint doesn’t need a phone signal to operate as it only relies on the GPS signals which always seem to be available. For me it’s always been 100% reliable, it’s never ever yet failed and I get out into the wilds quite a lot and in some pretty remote parts of the UK, Scotland too. IT’S JUST BRILLIANT! Whenever I bump into other walkers I’m very often extolling the virtues of GridPoint, I think it’s a real must have item for walkers and ramblers, and it’s so clear and straightforward to use. It is the best mapping and coordinate aid I've used, and I'm amazed that it's still free. I'm pleased that it is possible to support this app by making a tip. For anyone that uses grid refs and maps this app is well worth supporting! Well done guys!! ### 5/5 — A Lean but Mean App! *2016-09-26, version 2.1* I've used this app since it's very early release and still find it an invaluable addition to my navigation kit for hill walking. It works faultlessly and is very light on the phone battery, unlike digital mapping and GPS. I use GridPoint to verify my position only when I've determined my location by means of visual terrain recognition and taking bearings if needed. This helps me improve my location finding. Great work! App just closes as soon as it opens now. It's unuseable ### 1/5 — No longer works *2016-05-19* This used to be a great 'You are here' app. Now it just crashes when opened. Such a shame. ### 1/5 — Broken on iOS 9 *2016-05-08, version 0* Used to be great. Combined with a waterproof case it turned your phone into a traditional gps unit for walking with OS maps. Unfortunately it hasn't be updated since 2009 and no longer works - using iOS 9 it crashes and closes a few seconds after starting. Picks up even in aeroplane mode so even with a low battery it can keep going. Managed to conclude a trip with 10% battery so the app itself is frugal with battery. Thank you!! ### 5/5 — A must have app for walkers, and climbers alike. *2021-04-14, version 2.3* Download this app, ensure that’s it’s on your phone before you go out into the wilds, and hope that it remains an unused, waste of space on your phone. The app does exactly what it says on the tin. It gives you your location, in a number of formats. From grid reference, to Lat & Lan and more besides. And it does not require a mobile signal to work. Just GPS. When you need it, it could be a life saver. ### 5/5 — Excellent with a paper map *2021-04-07, version 2.3* I am a Viewranger user as well as having a high end Garmin GPS. However I always carry a paper map and this app is really good for relating its gps position to your position on a paper map. This is down to the clever and unique (as far as I know) graphic representation of the relevant grid. OK, you could argue that it would be better with an OS map layer under the graphic but that would mean buying or subscribing to digital OS maps. The thing for me is that it encourages me to use the paper map and helps me read grid references more easily. Another great feature is that you can see the difference between grid, true and magnetic north. It would be good perhaps if you could also see grid magnetic angle without having to work it out but maybe in a future update? All in all a clever and effective app for anyone from a casual user to a professional.
